No he didnt, he has absolutely zero attributes to play the role of a combative midfielder. He played in the 8 or 10 role with 2 central midfielders behind him.

He played in a "Regista" role in some games for Norwich, where the 2 central midfielders were in front of him and he was the one receiving the ball from defenders when playing out from the back. Basically the role that Pirlo played for Italy, AC Milan and Juventus for many years where despite not being fast, strong or able to tackle, he ran the game like a quarterback from that position because he understood the game so completely he was 2 steps ahead of everyone else.

Maddison didn't really do much when he was played in that way, which to be fair is an extremely difficult position for anyone in world football to play. In most of those games he was pushed back up to make a regular old midfield 3.

Pirlo by the way only got moved to that position by Ancelotti when he was at AC Milan. For most of his early career he was played as a very inconsistent number 10, but Ancelotti had the brainwave to move him back as he knew that Gattuso and Seedorf who played next to him had the engines and physicality to make up for what Pirlo lacked.

But to hand that sort of position to a 22 year old in the Premier League is madness. I think only a handful of players in world football right now could even attempt it, Modric maybe could. IMO Jorginho who literally does play the Regista role for Chelsea is just a poor man's Pirlo. He's nowhere close to being able to run the game like he could. Fernandinho does something similar to Jorginho but again is not in the Pirlo bracket.

Maybe it's something Maddison could move toward later in his career, though I'd very much doubt it.

Hoping the performance today is one of 'Qualitee and intensitee' ... otherwise Claude is going to have to learn another word in English.

Unfortunately, still expecting us to lose... but we were 7th!

Going today and obviously want to get something from the game, but, the table hasn’t been too unkind....next ten games will shape our destiny....potentially points from every one of them.....could feasibly get back to 7th, will need victoree.......

We need to start with high energy and work hard to be first to the ball esp in first 15mins

Great idea.   Just a shame it never happens.

Every week..  i wonder what they say in the dressing room before they go out?

<<ease yourselves in.. dont waste too much energy... let them run around and tire themselves out ... just stand off and dont risk a tackle. ..>>

I can think of a few words he could learn but I won’t repeat here.  It’s time some of the players stood up and spoke to each other about this and then actually put words into action!

Since our return Spurs and Chelsea are the two teams in the top 6 we have taken most points from away.

We don't always get a result at Spurs but we have played a 4-3 and 5-4 against them in te ast 4 seasons so we do get a performance normally. The kind of game the players tend to be up for.

It's asking a lot to beat Spurs with them close to the top 2 but a good display would do wonders here. Another flat attacking show and we could get sucked into 6 pointers against Palace and Brighton.

So, presumably you agree we're hot on wolves tails? We're closer to them than Cardiff or Burnley are to us after all...

A draw is the best we can hope for here. Otherwise, I see zero chance of us getting anything out of this game, especially if we manage to pull off our magic quarter of an hour at the start of the game, coming out of the tunnel still half-asleep.

Some kind of good football that isn't overly passive would already do it for me. All in all, I'm not expecting too much from today's game, has something of a write-off already.

Our form is horrible, our strikers can't find the net, midfield disjointed.

1-0 or 2-1 to Spurs.

Minute 1 - 15.

Place your bets for when we concede a goal due to be half asleep before we wake up in the 20th minute as usual.
