Harry Maguire edges closer to £75m Manchester United move after telling Leicester: I’m ready to leave now

  • Harry Maguire has told Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers he wants to leave
  • Maguire is looking to secure a £75million move to Manchester United
  • Manchester City still interested in Maguire but United are more likely to sign him

Harry Maguire has pushed a £75million move to Manchester United closer by telling Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers and team-mates that he wants to leave.

Maguire, 26, informed Rodgers and the rest of the Foxes squad of his intentions during their pre-season training camp in France, hoping it will ease negotiations between the two clubs.

Twelve months ago, the England defender failed to secure a move to Old Trafford despite heavy interest from their manager Jose Mourinho and he has decided to be more proactive on this occasion to avoid a repeat.

Manchester City also remain contenders for Maguire’s signature but appear less likely to match Leicester’s valuation which would equal the world-record fee paid for a defender when Liverpool signed Virgil van Dijk.

Maguire, part of a 31-man Leicester party who trained last week in Evian by Lake Geneva, is understood to be happy at the prospect of joining United despite the club failing to qualify for the Champions League.

He believes after two successful seasons at Leicester, in which he became a World Cup hero with England, it is the right time to further his career.

Leicester were reluctant to sell unless it became clear Maguire wanted out and now that has been done, it is believed they will not stand in his way. Rodgers would be given funds to sign a replacement and James Tarkowski and Lewis Dunk have been linked.

But the Foxes boss is already well served in central defence with Jonny Evans, his former Celtic loanee Filip Benkovic, £20million Turkish prospect Caglar Soyuncu and club captain Wes Morgan, so could use the Maguire cash to strengthen other positions.

If he said that on the pre season camp, he’d have been told get on the plane back home mate.

United have a week left. Can’t see us disrupting our season three weeks before

****ing tabloids are desperate for Harry to sign for Man United.

I don't believe any of these "I want to leave" reports.

Different circumstances

First time Riyad went missing and sat in an airport when he should have been playing for Algeria

January he again used the occasion of international duty to announced his plans after he was finished at AFCON

Maguire would have some face to announce his intentions in front of the whole squad

Honestly if he really wants to go to a club which is as toxic as they are at the moment and we can get £75 million plus then fair enough.

But what he earns in a year is what the majority dream of earning in a life time. As. I said before, invested correctly, he would have no financial worries for the rest of his life, even staying at Leicester.

Believe me he'll feel a lot more comfortable at 40 with a net worth of £20m rather than £10m.

I. Still think this is lazy bullshit journalism the pictures from Évian seeing Maguire laughing with the lads does that look like a player that wants to leave ?

And I’m sure Leicester won’t go any lower than £95m so Man Utd need to pay up or Fuch off !!

He thinks United will turn it around. He wants the money. He wants the reputation. He believes in Ole. The last reason seems far fetched but the other three seem fair.

Is he a friend of yours?

Not doubting you, just wondering how you know this information.

This is what I'm thinking.

There's no way he'd have been allowed to stick around if he was saying to the staff and players he wanted to leave.

No way we leave it to the last minute to replace him or let him go, we've been burnt before and seemed to have learnt from it.

"Now the Foxes are sweating on whether Maguire is prepared to play in their pre-season fixture away at Scunthorpe on Tuesday."

If it's anything like the Mahrez saga, it would make it even harder for him to leave if he were to go on strike!

It will be ridiculous if we get 75-80m for Maguire, but this really could happen it seems. :giggle:

nah with the transfer fees these days he's worth 75 - 80m to us so its not ridiculous. id rather he stayed tbh just cant see him in a Manu/manc shirt. its just not right

We don't get £75m though do we

He's on a 5 year contract, I'd think he's best to keep quiet, in reality they could make him play in the under 23's till he's 31 on his current wages if they wished.

The strategy is all becoming clear now. KP are sending our 'stars' to infiltrate the top 4 and bring them down from within, paving the way for another city title win. Riyad to Man City for a big sulk, bring the team spirit down, Drinky to Chelsea to be a perennial sick note and diminish their squad, Kante to Chelsea to insist on being played out of position and now Harry to United to cause a few defensive errors here and there. I don't think we sent anybody to arsenal but doesn't look like we needed to. Just need to flog Gray to Liverpool now to soak up 90% of their possession and create nothing.
