Unpopular opinion but why do these parents need their kids feeding in the summer? Have their benefits gone down because of the virus? It's not like they've lost their jobs as most of them wont even have jobs. Presumably next summer they wont get the free dinners.

Ive got a few "council estate" crowd on my facebook and all of them seem that these people dont even need it and that if they werent wasting money on fags and cheap alcohol they wouldnt be struggling to feed their kids. Obviously there is a counter argument to that in which should kids suffer because of their parents being shit and the answer is probably not. Still a little food for thought.

I think that's a big generalisation. While there's no doubt that some do waste money on booze and fags for many the situation they find themselves in isn't their own fault. At the school I teach at we have kids getting FSM because a parent has died, some have parents who have been injured at work or while serving their country. Sometimes parents have lost jobs in specialist industries and now can't find work

Sometimes a parent has just upped and left and isn't contributing anything financially. There's loads of scenarios and it can happen to anyone, not just 'council estate types'. That perception is quite inaccurate unhelpful.

These are problems don't go away for 6 weeks over summer.

I'm just playing devils advocate. Can't say i disagree with the motion  at all just giving some opinions from others ive heard.

To me this seems like something the government is doing to shut up people but come next summer they'll be back to no fsm. Then it begs the question why only this summer?

Never really minded them but now I’m always checking their results.. their fans aren’t as unbearable as West Ham and Villa though

It's about breaking cycles of deprivation. It's well documented that some kids unfortunately go without adequate food over the school holidays. They will be giving out food vouchers rather than cash, so in theory it won't be abused.

It's not specifically food vouchers, it's a £15 weekly voucher for a supermarket of your choice. Supermarkets sell fags and booze.

A problem is how the free school meal system works.

My Mrs was a single mum, at university as a mature student a few years ago, struggling, but coping.

Her 2 kids we're given free school meals. Now, my Mrs is a qualified social worker, who doesn't need the help she once did and she's told the school this.

The schools reply..."If you're eligible for free school meals at any point, that stands for the next 6 years, whatever your current circumstances."

We've had £30 worth of vouchers every week since the school closed. As we don't need it, we've donated £30 worth of shopping to a local food bank in Northampton every week.

Exactly this. I can't get anyonw who isn't a City fan to comprehend this.  No matter how well we're doing I can't truly be optimistic, whenever I consider a bit of opttimism, like early this season we then get battered i.e. Liverpool Boxing Day or we lose a ridiculous game i.e. Villa in the Cup. And boom, back to pessimism.

I always hope, desperately hope but If I'm expecting the worst I can be pleasantly surprised.

I don't really understand your point.

You're basically explaining that we sometimes lose football matches. That'll happen!

But that's not limited to that particular system? Both the winter fuel allowance and the free TV licence are both available for the richest of rich oldies, because it isn't means tested. It's not the only benefit in the world where there's a global entitlement.

Yes that definitely is a problem. But poor policy implementation doesn't mean it's not much needed by some (referring specifically to the OPs post earlier).

Wasn't sure where to put this but wanted to say something, watching the end of the England v Croatia 2004 on BBC2, what a chance that tournament was to win something.

Kinda of ended when Rooney got injured. We were mint against France in the opener before individual mistakes

I hate so sound arrogant because we’ve served up some absolute dross since we’ve been in the prem but teams like Brighton and Norwich are pretty pointless in this league

The average position is bit of a misnomer, you want to play teams who have naff all to play for

I've never really bought that argument. I'd much rather have teams in the bottom half. They are down there for a reason.... because they're not very good. They might be slightly more up for it in terms of work-rate, but the point still stands.

Those with nothing to play for often can play with a bit more freedom, unless its the last day when everyone is already on the beach.

Plus nowadays clubs go nuts over table pride and prize money for each place, even though its not much.

I think it’s good to have East Anglian representation in the top flight. In fact I like it when both Ipswich and Norwich are up there. As for Brighton, fair play to them.I know they scream Championship but they are working really hard to build something.

I don't understand when fans or pundits try to justify that Mane or Son are underrated, when nothing could be further from the truth. Both are brilliant players and get plaudits constantly.

I hate the narrative that Son, who got 3 red cards in a season, "isn't that sort of player"

B0llocks. You don't get a red card for kicking someone and get to be seen as an angel.

Get in the Fuching corner with Joey Barton.

But, yeah, other than that - lovely guy

i think that Villa Semi-Final sums it all up. The best possible tie against a side we've already battered once and we didn't even show up for it. Leicester that

I say this as a club who finished their seasons twice in expectational form to win the title and stay up. The fixtures were so helpful.

When we won the league, Newcastle and Norwich were the hardest opponent to get past. Playing the likes of Palace, Watford and Southampton was so handy. You run harder they don't want to.

Same happened the year before when we beat West Ham to kick off the great escape, Swansea and Southampton. Cannon fodder. Burnley we squeezed past by comparison.
