Foxxed Posted 30 April 2019 Posted 30 April 2019 I will support the investigation if it goes like this: "When did he tweet the things?" "When he was 15." "Okay. Case closed."

That's literally no time at all in football. Hennessey's nazi salute issue is still ongoing isn't it? 2. They shouldn't just fob it straight off, they should take their time to appraise it properly. Some of what he said was horrible and whilst his age SHOULD mitigate any punishment down to basically a finger wag, they should send the message that any such comments will be properly scrutinised. 3. The people that matter, the club, know Hamza played very well. That's all that matters. Again i agree with you - It shouldnt be fobbed off, this sort of thing should be stamped out and addressed, just because he is young he shouldnt get away with it. But how long does it take to look on his twitter account to see old posts? The time anyway is irrelevant .. Like i said i think he will be cleared and told he is a naughty boy and not to do it again. I made a post here to basically say i felt sorry for Hamza having a crazy good game and now all that will be remembered is these tweets. To go from super high to probably very low in a matter of days, cant be fun for anyone. And with regards Hennessey, he was cleared of all charges 3/4 weeks ago.
Bryn Posted 30 April 2019 Posted 30 April 2019 The investigation is fairly tenuous but it is obviously worthwhile checking high-profile footballers aren't genuinely sexist or racist, and if they are ensure they have access to support and education to ensure that they learn. Proper punishment should be reserved for where it is genuinely appropriate (assault, sustained offending or genuine incitement of discrimination against a section of people). The investigation should go about as far as checking he now rejects any such sentiment and that should be that.
Stadt Posted 30 April 2019 Posted 30 April 2019 His apology is better than most I thought. It appears genuine to me, given that Rice and Hennessey have been let off it'd be ridiculous if Hamza faces any punishment but I doubt he will.

How he got away with pleading ignorance is beyond me My favourite part though is that his agent / solicitor even advised him to plead innocence in the first place. He was doing it to a German player and he had his ****ing finger under his nose Who was ever going to think he was a real Nazi!?!? He was clearly taking the piss. If national treasure and absolute legend John Cleese can do it in one of the country's most beloved comedy sketches of all time, why the hell didn't he just say that's what he was blatantly doing and leave it at that So insane. It was pretty staggering, if you Google the statement the FA released they say things along the lines of his knowledge of the second World War being "lamentable". And as funny as Cleese was we all know there is no chance that they would screen something like that today. Sadly even Larry David is wrapping up Curb after the next series as he says the humour isn't going to fit into the modern World so imagine the reaction Faulty Towers would get, using that excuse would have seen him get banned rather than nothing. I'd love to have seen the whole process, imagine having to pretend to be that thick just so you can play football - completely embarrassing.

How do you "educate" someone into thinking women's football is good if they think it's shit? You can't exactly sit them down A Clockwork Orange style to watch the 1970 World Cup final and impose long hair and tits on Pele and Jarzinho etc

Corky Posted 30 April 2019 Posted 30 April 2019 Why didn't they do this when it happened six years ago? He was a footballer then too.
Tielemans63 Posted 30 April 2019 Posted 30 April 2019 I'm not just saying this because it's Hamza but if the FA go ahead with this then it sets one hell of a precedent. This will become commonplace after games whereby fans from other clubs will dig up some shit about a player who has annoyed them and the FA will then be duty-bound to investigate. Maybe they should set a date for inappropriate comments e.g they investigate any content from within the last three years. Hamza was 15 for crying out loud!
Dorchester Fox Posted 30 April 2019 Posted 30 April 2019 Sort of linked to this.. There was a moment in the first half when Hamza was down in the away fan corner and he seemed to bite at something that was shouted by an Arsenal fan... He definitely turned around and then looked like he mentioned something to the linesman. I briefly wondered at the time if it had been something out of order from an Arsenal fan... And thought it probably was.. What's the betting that the same Gooner caveman has tried to pre-empt any complaint coming his way by raking some of this up? It's the way that they work when they have chips on their shoulders...

Guest ttfn Posted 30 April 2019 Posted 30 April 2019 Even putting to one side the fact that he was 15, disciplining somebody for something they said 6 years ago seems like a total waste of time. The opportunity to “educate” Hamza was 6 years ago. He’s a grown man now, he knows what he said was wrong. So in the end this is just about pleasing the internet mob. Hopefully this will sate the public until the next young man/woman has the temerity to do something to put themselves in the spotlight. There’s a generation of people aged 20-35 who grew up not properly understanding the permanence or reach of social media, and it’s hard to imagine that many people of that age don’t have things on their public record which won’t look good in the cold light of 2019.

Unfortunately the world doesn't work this way. If he had commited a crime when 15 he could still be charged for it now if someone filed a complaint and the police decide to proceed. The question that needs to be asked is why was something not done at the time by both the club and the FA? If it was then why is this being investigated. Clubs surely have a duty of care to young players to educate them in the usage and dangers of social media. Was this done by us? It would simply be far better if players and celebrities stayed off things like twitter and left it alone to the sad trolls who seem to be obsessed with it.

The Horse's Mouth Posted 30 April 2019 Posted 30 April 2019 People wonder why there's no characters in football anymore, sneeze and you get a one match ban
z-layrex Posted 30 April 2019 Posted 30 April 2019 This is the problem with the world in the age of social media. You can't be a moronic teenager anymore, because one day some historical tweet or facebook post will get dragged up to damage you, when you are most likely a totally different person now. I would quite happily wipe facebook, insta, twitter and the rest of it off the face of the internet. They have become incredibly damaging to society. **** knows what it must be like being a teenager today, where your entire self worth is dictated by your instagram account. It's like that black mirror episode where everyone is rated by their social media score.

Imagine getting drubbed by little old Leicester and the first thing you do is go through years of tweets on someone’s Twitter account. That isn’t normal behaviour.
