I think its insensitive and I highly doubt he thinks the same right now but it's not something i think he can be held up for. To add to this, as a teenager living in your own little bubble it can be pretty difficult to comprehend why anyone would self-harm/commit suicide unless you've been directly affected by it. At that age its easy to be ignorant of the scale of the issues others are facing and be dismissive as a result, so its hardly a surprising view. If you put that tweet on one of those quizzes with 'Strongly Disagree' to 'Strongly Agree' on it and gave it to a bunch of 14 year olds I'd wager a not-insignificant number share his (then-)view. No doubt he's changed his stance now he's matured, though.

Nick Posted 1 May 2019 Posted 1 May 2019 Many clubs talk a good game in relation to supporting the welfare of young players especially in relation to the construction of personal, professional, virtual and group identities but there’s so many athletes that need earlier and more in depth intervention and education.

Surely the issue of racism in football, along with diving and implementing VAR and safe standing successfully are bigger issues to be tackling? Well you would think so wouldn't you? I posted about an organisation calling itself the FA which fined a small non league club who walked off, with full support from manager and owner, after their keeper was racially abused. Perhaps this was a different FA entirely?

Babylon Posted 1 May 2019 Posted 1 May 2019 12 hours ago, RumbleFox said: Well this thread descended as expected. The FA have to look into it, his Tweets were objectively offensive. Of course one hopes that they use reason and judgement in their response and take no further action. He seems to be genuinely sorry and has said he has learned form what he said. Punishing someone for Tweets they made when 15 does seem OTT but the total overreaction from the "PC gone mad" brigade on here is mental too. They have to be seen to be looking into it (racism is a huge problem within the sport so they probably cannot ignore this completely) but hopefully they do the right thing and realise it was a stupid Tweet by a teenager rather than a serious hate crime. Regarding the larger argument around "PC gone mad" (and mention of Only Fools and Horses) I find it hilarious when you watch a video of an old comedy on YouTube and a bunch of 55 year old men are always like "this would not be allowed today, bloody snowflakes world's gone mad". Have they not seen Rick Gervais? Frankie Boyle? Lois CK (pre the willy thing)? Comedy now pushes all boundaries of taste further than it ever has. It is just, as Gervais says, there is a difference between the subject of a joke and the target of a joke. Some of the stuff people claim "wouldn't be allowed today" either misfires on the target/subject or just isn't really very funny. There is a reason Jim Davidson isn't on TV anymore. It isn't, merely, that "snowflakes" take offence, but that that he isn't at all funny. I am not classing Only Fools as this by the way, it is still great. Anyhoo, let's hope his apology and openness is enough to avoid any further action but let's also not get carried away at the "PC gone mad" world we live in. There are (very small) elements of the left that have gone way too far in terms of what you can and cannot say and I hate any form of online mob (in fact, as a paid up "leftie" I am more annoyed and horrified by the left than a lot of the far right these days because we should be better than that) but let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater. There is a reason we don't call black people n***rs anymore. A reason gay people are not locked up. A reason we don't call people spackers anymore. A reason women can vote and that reason is political correctness. It ain't all bad just cos a few maddos on the fringes of the left cannae take any form of humour. X Also, to clarify and to pre-empt the usual straw man stuff...... 1: I do not think he should be punished further 2: SOME political correctness goes too far How long would it take to look into, 5 seconds? Oh he was 14/15 years of age, oh he made a comment about black people, oh he's mixed race and got a massive afro, clearly no racism there. The end.
UniFox21 Posted 2 May 2019 Posted 2 May 2019 As said above me^ This is ****ing ridiculous. He was 15, I repeat 15. Everyone says stupid things at 15, it's a part of growing up and realising you were a twat. (takes some longer than others)
steveherbe Posted 2 May 2019 Posted 2 May 2019 Probably get a 43 year ban, and Leicester relegated to the Conference forever
Dan Posted 2 May 2019 Posted 2 May 2019 Virtue signalling freaks. Double standards as well. Rice never get charged and his were probably worse.
Always Next Year Posted 2 May 2019 Posted 2 May 2019 What a f—king joke the FA are the lad was only 14-15 years of age, still at school. We should all let the FA know what we think in our last home game. English football run by a load of pricks.
Ashley Posted 2 May 2019 Posted 2 May 2019 Hamza gets charged for Homophobic comments yet Declan Rice openly backs the IRA and nothing gets done?
OntarioFox Posted 2 May 2019 Posted 2 May 2019 F**k the FA, and f**k the salty Arsenal fans dredging up 5-year-old tweets to deflect from their team's turgid performance.
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 2 May 2019 Posted 2 May 2019 Social media, i detest it, people trawling through other people’s tweets, posts, pictures etc a stalkers paradise
Always Next Year Posted 2 May 2019 Posted 2 May 2019 Hope the smug bas—-d that dug this up gets what’s coming to him.
foxinsocks Posted 2 May 2019 Posted 2 May 2019 If he was 5 years old would they have charged him? When is the cut off? Why was rice at west ham not charged? (Ans is he wants to play for england). This is just childish stuff. He is now an adult responsible for what he does. ... but should he be punished for his actions as a minor. Lets see what the childhood indescretions of those on the judging panel look like
steveherbe Posted 2 May 2019 Posted 2 May 2019 2 minutes ago, Ashley said: Hamza gets charged for Homophobic comments yet Declan Rice openly backs the IRA and nothing gets done? Because Leicester are in the Midlands and won the Premier League, West Ham are from Landan and never have - or will
willie-bell-in-rothley Posted 2 May 2019 Posted 2 May 2019 Typical, double standards from the FA. He was just a kid, weve all said and done things at that age that were regretable but dont get dragged through the mill for them, The lad has apologised and that should be enough.
