When i was 6 i called my brother a banana-faced matchstick ( he was skinny), Well he hit me and my mum made him pay me 50p a week compensation for 6 weeks from his pocket money. I was well chuffed.

However i am now worried i might get prosecuted for extortion, or he might get reported to someone.

I'd be more worried that mum can't do much now. He may not just hit you once now. He may also want his £3 back plus interest lol lol lol

Unfortunately the world doesn't work this way. If he had commited a crime when 15 he could still be charged for it now if someone filed a complaint and the police decide to proceed.

The question that needs to be asked is why was something not done at the time by both the club and the FA? If it was then why is this being investigated.

Clubs surely have a duty of care to young players to educate them in the usage and dangers of social media. Was this done by us? It would simply be far better if players and celebrities stayed off things like twitter and left it alone to the sad trolls who seem to be obsessed with it.

I agree completely with your second point but the reference to criminal law in the first paragraph feels misplaced - he’s not committed a criminal offence.

The FA have their own disciplinary rules and surely common sense needs to prevail here and in society more widely - words are different to actions.

I wasn't implying he had and maybe it was a crass comparison. However, words can be a crime. Hate crime is now taken very seriously. I'm not suggesting, of course, that this is what these tweets represent but people have to be so careful what they say in today's world and unfortunately people say things on social media they probably wouldn't dream of saying in the local pub to someone's face. Once it is out there it is hard to cover it up.

I agree with you completely re common sense. This seems to be a fast vanishing human trait

I'm petrified that someone will report some of the abuse thrown during British Bulldogs and Conker tournaments back in the day. No social media then but spekky nobhead might still bear a grudge.....serves him right for smashing my 39er.

Quite outrageous. Seems like someone was keen to discover this to try and affect him.

For those on here that have been regular posters on The Tinder Thread with all those screenshots, you better be careful now..

BBC this morning Nic Lyndhurst basically said that Only Fools and  Horses would not be acceptable in this day because there were a few non PC situations and stereotypes in it.

His view was that comedy needs to point at someone to work and you cannot do that any more on TV.

Comedy needs to be offensive and challenge the status quo, otherwise you can bin comedy completely.

There's a reason why "woke", feminist or leftist comedy doesn't work.

Pretty much this. The only people who seemed to have been offended are some salty Arsenal fans

Well this thread descended as expected.  The FA have to look into it, his Tweets were objectively offensive.  Of course one hopes that they use reason and judgement in their response and take no further action.  He seems to be genuinely sorry and has said he has learned form what he said.  Punishing someone for Tweets they made when 15 does seem OTT but the total overreaction from the "PC gone mad" brigade on here is mental too.  They have to be seen to be looking into it (racism is a huge problem within the sport so they probably cannot ignore this completely) but hopefully they do the right thing and realise it was a stupid Tweet by a teenager rather than a serious hate crime.

Regarding the larger argument around "PC gone mad" (and mention of Only Fools and Horses) I find it hilarious when you watch a video of an old comedy on YouTube and a bunch of 55 year old men are always like "this would not be allowed today, bloody snowflakes world's gone mad".  Have they not seen Rick Gervais?  Frankie Boyle?  Lois CK (pre the willy thing)?  Comedy now pushes all boundaries of taste further than it ever has.  It is just, as Gervais says, there is a difference between the subject of a joke and the target of a joke.  Some of the stuff people claim "wouldn't be allowed today" either misfires on the target/subject or just isn't really very funny.  There is a reason Jim Davidson isn't on TV anymore.  It isn't, merely, that "snowflakes" take offence, but that that he isn't at all funny.  I am not classing Only Fools as this by the way, it is still great.

Anyhoo, let's hope his apology and openness is enough to avoid any further action but let's also not get carried away at the "PC gone mad" world we live in.  There are (very small) elements of the left that have gone way too far in terms of what you can and cannot say and I hate any form of online mob (in fact, as a paid up "leftie" I am more annoyed and horrified by the left than a lot of the far right these days because we should be better than that) but let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater.  There is a reason we don't call black people n***rs anymore.  A reason gay people are not locked up.  A reason we don't call people spackers anymore.  A reason women can vote and that reason is political correctness.  It ain't all bad just cos a few maddos on the fringes of the left cannae take any form of humour.

X

Also, to clarify and to pre-empt the usual straw man stuff......

1: I do not think he should be punished further

2: SOME political correctness goes too far

1. You don't know they won't do that. The match was Sunday, it's only Tuesday. That's literally no time at all in football. Hennessey's nazi salute issue is still ongoing isn't it?

2. They shouldn't just fob it straight off, they should take their time to appraise it properly. Some of what he said was horrible and whilst his age SHOULD mitigate any punishment down to basically a finger wag, they should send the message that any such comments will be properly scrutinised.

3. The people that matter, the club, know Hamza played very well. That's all that matters.

It's like that black mirror episode where everyone is rated by their social media score.

It's here mate.  A godsend to dictators.

In 2020, China will fully roll out its controversial social credit score. Under the system, both financial behaviors like “frivolous spending” and bad behaviors like lighting up in smoke-free zones can result in stiff consequences. Penalties include loss of employment and educational opportunities, as well as transportation restrictions. Those with high scores get perks, like discounts on utility bills and faster application processes to travel abroad.

China first announced that it would be devising a “social credit score” in 2014. The government said then that the system would help ensure a model society in which “sincerity and trustworthiness become conscious norms of action among all the people.”

Every citizen starts off with a score of 1,000. NPR reported the ranking as follows: 960 to 1,000 is an A; 850 to 955 points is a B; 840 to 600 is a C; and any score below that is a D, which designates the score-holder as “untrustworthy.”

While the government hasn’t made the specific methodology used to calculate scores public, one’s ranking can fall for both major and minor infractions. Serious violations include drunk-driving, embezzlement, and fraud. Much smaller violations that result in a lowered score include playing too many video games; spreading “fake news,” especially related to terrorist attacks, or refusing military service, will also lower one’s score. Sometimes people are declared “dishonest” for committing infractions the government doesn’t believe they’re truly sorry for.

Wonder if he'd been investigated if he'd said "men's netball is fvcking awful"

The other 2 I can't believe are even in the spotlight, even in 2019. A joke and a non-personal statement.

Bar the joke about black people in prison, which I'm sure could be argued is racist even in the context of a crass joke none of the other tweets are even open to discussion.

However emotive suicide and self harm is, it's an opinion that can't be labelled anything other than an opinion. I think its insensitive and I highly doubt he thinks the same right now but it's not something i think he can be held up for.

Women's football 6 years was dog shit, its probably still dog shit. Even putting that to one side, that doesn't make it sexist. If he'd made a rude comment about Scottish football or the lower leagues it would be classed as being rude about the standard of football and not because the players have a penis or a muff.

Have a word with him, he'll agree to he more careful in the future and hopefully young academy players can learn to be a bit more respectful even at an age where most other kids of the same age aren't expected to be.

This is just bullshit from the FA. He was a minor at the time and cannot be held accountable for his actions. They just want to make it look as if they are doing something.

Funny how this surfaces after he had a great game against Arsenal on sky..

Bit like the Vardy casino footage, only appeared after he played in an England match. 15yr old kid spouts crap. Really??

I think Phil Nevile was more critical of women's football in the past and he still got the job
