The Immortals 2015/16

Seeing as it's anniversary time...

 

                   Schmeichel

Simpson - Morgan - Huth - Fuchs

Albrighton - Kante - Drinkwater - Mahrez

                 Okazaki - Vardy

 

That's what many consider the main XI for our Premier League immortals. However...

 

That line up didn't start a game together until Manchester United at home on Nov 28th, our 14th match of the season.

The next time they started together was Spurs away on Jan 13th, our 21st game.

The last time they started together that season was West Ham at home on April 17th.

 

That XI started only 13 games out of the 38.

 

Schmeichel and Morgan started every game (38)

Marc Albrighton was the only other player to feature in every game (34+4)

Shinji Okazaki started the fewest games of that main XI (28) but also came on as sub 8 times.

Only one other player reached double figures as a starter (14) ... Jeff Schlupp.

Most sub appearances that season was Leo Ulloa with 22.

The only player to get a medal without starting a game was Nathan Dyer (12 as sub)

Ironically, I was making this point to defend puel for 'changing the team too much'! The mind plays tricks and easy to think that starting eleven basically played almost every game after the war arsenal defeat.

One of my favourite moments which summed up the title winning season was our supposed " blown it " moment at home to West Brom when we drew 2-2 and then 24 hours later it was realised that we'd actually extended our lead at the top as Man City, Arsenal and Spurs all preceded to lose hahahahahaaaa.

Absolutely, we couldn't have done it without him. He only got 6 goals that year but each one of those that he did get were absolutely massive. The same with Shinji's goal vs Newcastle in a 1-0 win.

I often feel like Nathan Dyer gets forgotten a lot when we discuss the immortals. So important and especially in this pivotal game, will always go down as one of the legends for me.

His run and cross for Vardy's first when we were 2-0 down at Southampton was massively important too. We were still well in the habit of gifting teams 2 nil head starts and yet always came back and got something with Dyer being crucial to two of them!

Hahahaa not so sure on that. He made 2 starts, both vs Everton where the 1st one he did well and the 2nd they were on the beach and wanted nothing to do with our title party. The other appearance was away at Arsenal where he needlessly hacked down an Arsenal player in injury time after the ball was heading out of play, that really could have cost us dear.

 

Will always love him though.

That’s a standout memory as I remember there being 30,000 Vardys there that day

Was just about to post this. Pivotal moment. If we had lost, or even drew that game I don't think the miracle would have happened. I was down the other end and not even sure if we'd scored, because everyone was concerned about Dyer, who was flat out after a coming together.

Great stats. I definitely remember Schlupp and De Laet being the preferred full backs until around October and Kante being used at RM initially.

Really interesting stats. Andy King also pivotal even though some on here claim he's basically been Junior Lewis since his early promise. The Schluppinator too, both legends. As others have said, Dyer and Ulloa both massively important.

 

For me, any player who played even a minute that season will always be a legend. So too those squad players that never even kicked a ball. That season was such a beautiful, unbelievable once in a lifetime event that I firmly believe a different team cook, cleaner, kit person might have meant we didn't win it. We really are so fvcking fortunate to have experienced it. It has both MADE and RUINED football for me. Wouldn't change it for the world but aware it's a high point never to be matched. Even if we established ourselves as a "big club" and won the league again at some point it would never compare. Football, fvcking hell. X

Fully agree with this (I know That foul cost us and we weren't happy at the time). But did feel annoyed with Ranieri that he never gave him a couple of minutes against Everton to get that last appearance to qualify and also say goodbye to the fans. Felt it showed CR up as lacking a bit of class.

FYI: Wasilewski started the last two games of the 15/16 season vs Everton and Chelsea as Huth was banned.

kante playing right mid away at bury in the league cup and just running at full pelt for the whole game, gokhan inler looking out of his depth against league two players. the stuff of dreams.

I've read most of the publications that were whisked out in the aftermath during the summer of 2016 (Fearless being my favourite). However, 3 years on it seems to me that we have a missing book.

 

Where is the coffee table book that describes the pre-season, victory parade, c/w each week/month as a chapter with full colour pictures and dates etc ?? Together with off pitch events, quotes (players, management and fans) and a summary of what was going on elsewhere (especially with our rivals and what they thought about us). Fearless sort of does this but told more like a story than a pick up and glance tome. 

 

Almost like a Foxes & Fossils but just of that one glorious season, to be left in the lounge and thumbed through by guests and a reminder of what happened on each day/week.

 

Perhaps there's already one out there and I've missed it ??
