Stadt Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 Chilwell is great at winning headers, it’s just a shame that they go in any direction apart from where he intends
walkerleeds Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 Perez, Vardy and Chilwell are very good in the air. Don't worry yourself.

Now we have Soyuncu/Benkovic, Evans, Ndidi and Schmeichel above 6 foot. Add to that Perez and Vardy are reasonable headers of the ball, Dennis Praet is 5'11 although very lightweight. I think we'll be absolutely fine, especially if Benkovic breaks into the team. Ulloa was about 6'3 too

Deeg67 Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 Soyuncu is 6-2" and a good leaper - it's not like he's a midget out there. Evans is quite good with defensive headers as well.

That was mostly during the title winning season. And he started those games where he replaced Vardy because of the red card and injuries. The great escape season before, he was main striker. But the point was... He was over 6 foot tall.
Fightforever Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 We will be fine. Vardy, chilwell and perez. are good jumpers. and Benkovic soyuncu evans and ndidi are all over 6 foot.
RumbleFox Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 The smallest team in the league last year were Man City, Liverpool were in the top 5 smallest. The two biggest I believe were Watford and Huddersfield. Size helps if ability is equal but I think the obsession with height in British football is foolish. X
sylofox Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 Kevin Keegan 5"6' David Speedie 5"7' I seem to remember both scoring plenty of headed goals.
kingcarr21 Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 How often do you see headed goals scored from corners and free kicks? Gone are the days when we would get excited over a corner. I honestly don't think it will be a problem

I honestly don't think it will be a problem We did have a spell a couple of seasons ago when it seemed like we conceded every time we had to defend a corner. Oddly we had a pairing of Huth and Morgan then who are both good in the air. Anyway as has been stated we should be fine with what we have.
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 I can see this being a problem when defending with backs against the wall, but that's not our style anyway as we'll be keeping ball more often than not, and as others have said you can mitigate threat of corners by planning and organisation. Its not the 90s anymore, we'll be OK with a small and nimble team, and better to watch too.

You can guarantee that the opposition are going to exploit that starting with Wolves. Heights a myth.
RowlattsFox Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 I do worry about our ability to defend corners, seems to have struggled for years although I believe stats were much better last year. A lot of our problems come from Kasper not dominating the area but that's never going to happen.
lgfualol Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 I will never feel comfortable defending corners. Last time I was comfortable it was when Huth and Morgan got away with wrestling strikers to the ground. I think this is because Kasper is too scared to leave his line. We should just leave 3 players at the halfway line again, scare the other team away from committing in the box

Beechey Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 We had the 6th shortest squad before Maguire left anyway. We've probably not shifted much because Benkovic and Maguire are roughly the same height.

brockmyster Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 This is probably the most English football fan comment I've ever seen The Spanish world cup winning team wasn't blessed with plenty of height, even Puyol was under 6ft yet is still one of the best CBs of recent times. Height can matter at times but it's not an issue, if players are in the right positions at corners etc and on their toes they should be getting to the ball no matter their height realistically. Added to the fact that if you view this as such an issue all our CBs are over 6ft and thats probably the only position you can argue that height may be more important in the Premier League.
Guest An Sionnach Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 Part of the reason Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic and Lewanowski have racked up so many goals in the last ten years has been their size and power and I can still remember Nistelroy pushing defenders around , if Pete Crouch had been 5-10 how many goals would he have scored , Michael Owen always said having a big guy around made it easier for him and Heskey's muscle helped him a lot.
