Maddison

Sorry. You might be right and I could be wrong, but I think you are reacting instinctively and buying his flash bastard insta persona, which is part boyish fun and part tongue in cheek.

He speaks very well post match in interviews. His free kicks and corners.smack of hour after hour of practice. A young lad who went to Aberdeen to cut his teeth. An improvement in strength and stamina since he first arrived.

Finally, I felt his casino incident was far from the error.l it was portrayed to be. I thought it a very subtle, very clever pop a the England manager.

You're romanticising this as much as the previous poster is buying into his persona.

Whilst he obviously practices his corners they're not exactly great right now, are they?

And whilst it's part tongue in cheek it's also part rolling about whilst a serious game is passing him by.

He's not a bad bloke, and he's a decent player, but he needs to be under some scrutiny because, despite this lovely notion of 'teeth cutting', he isn't cutting it right now.

Oh, and in a 'friend of a friend' manner, I know a little bit about the poker. It wasn't a 'clever pop'. It was a bloke playing poker.

I largely agree with you. I was more playing devil's advocate.

The previous poster was describing Maddison as a typical flash bastard footballer douchebag. That was imo too simplistic.

Edited to add, I can't believe he wouldn't have worked out going on a night out after being 'ill'. I imagine he probably calculatd something like, **** it and **** Southgate.  I'm going out

He comes across very well in interviews. I can't believe he's a big problem for the boss in terms of man management.

His qualities are also clear. He's one of, if not our most, creative player.

But he's also lightweight. He goes to ground too easily and it screams out to opponents that he's not up for the battle. He's a confidence player with sustained spells of poor form. He lacks pace and aggression. Plus he's greedy at times, partly because the manager is constantly saying that the attacking mids need more goals. And, while he's had plenty of competition, he's been one of our least effective performers recently.

As a Leicester fan I think highly of him. If I were a neutral I'd probably say he was over-hyped.

If we go to a 3-5-2, which is clearly a consideration right now, then there will be a single slot for an attacking mid. One from Maddison, Perez, Barnes, Gray. And in a fairly central role where Perez and, according to some, Gray and Barnes (who was far more effective than Maddison today) prefer to play. If that happens, he'll have to roll his sleeves up.

And if he remains one of the first names on the team-sheet without getting his act together, we'll suffer.

I can't stand to watch his diving and cheating.

If I was a Burnley fan today I'd have been absolutely fuming at how his 1st instinct is to fall over.

Least it may deter the big teams from signing him in the summer.

Actually, they probably like that about him.

Must be a bastard to play against coupled with the fact he is also quality when he stays on his feet.

And yes, i am defending him because he's a leicester player despite being a cheat.

i think one thing that would help him "stop falling over" is if other teams stopped fouling him so much, tbh

He does get fouled a fair bit but he tends to go over easily when he's taken too many touches or lost possession when crowded out and hits the deck.

Very good player but can be even better if he cut this out.

If he doesn't win the free kick, get back up, track back and try to be an extra body in defence. That's what everyone else does (except Chilwell) and they don't get grief for it. It's embarrassing watching him lay on the floor looking at the ref while moaning, the ref won't change his mind so get back into the game and try to win back possession. He's been doing it for months now (if not longer), although it felt like today the crowd was getting on his back a lot more than usual.

Also worth remembering that its been a year since young Sophie died, that may have been affecting him in the past week or so, he has his own personal issues to deal with too lets not forget.

He's undoubtedly very talented and I'll never take that away from him. He's one of the most technically gifted players we've ever had. However I just can't warm to him. Everything about him screams dickhead modern footballer. I hate how much he throws himself to the ground too.

He gets a lot of stick from the opposition but there was one in the first half that was absolutely pathetic - went down and as soon as Burnley didnt kick it out he just got up.

It's really weird how this is the only sport in the World where its totally normal to do this. In almost every other sport the intention is to show the opponent you aren't hurt.

There's something very offputting about him that I can't put my finger on.

Regarding the diving - personally my stance has always been that while the officials and authorities are too inept to do anything about it, the only people you're conning by not doing it is yourselves.

However this general lack of urgency when he goes over is starting to really piss me off. Perez is exactly the same. We need goals and they're just pissing time away, giving up - Rodgers alluded to this when he first came here, he specifically did not want players moping around when they were tackled and wanted them back up trying to win the ball back, but we're hugely guilty of it, it's the signs of a soft underbelly you associate with sides like Arsenal and Spurs.

Really starting to bug me. It's not even clever - we just piss away our own time a lot of the time.

I was partly with you until you suggested that he practiced corners?

Spot on. No urgency or press anymore, almost as if they've been told not to do it.

If he didn’t fall over so much he wouldn’t be fouled so much

I think opposition players are targeting him cos they know he’ll drop like a fly

He does need to toughen up tbf

His game intelligence, strength and techniques have all gone better since he arrived. That is actually very encouraging to me. I was critical of aspects of his game when he first arrived despite the hype around him, but with the improvements since, I would like to think he can be our new Mahrez in 2 or 3 years’ time. He is far from that now and I still have complaints about him (eg. his final ball is still not quite right - it is often too far, too short or not at the right angle - but it is getting better and most

importantly he has the right ideas which is hard to teach). You all would have complaints of your own too - like diving or the quality of his corners (but they are much better now compared to earlier in the season though still got some room to improve).  The main thing which I am happy to see is improvement - so be patient - but equally I wish I don’t read all this hype about him like he is Messi level already. He is not even Mahrez yet but let’s hope he will get there.  If he can remain humble, keep his head down and learn, build up more strength, etc, and if Rodgers can do what he has done to Tielemans - ie. drop him when needed (like yesterday, I would Maddison should have come off instead of Praet) - then he can be our new Mahrez in 2 - 3 years’ time.

I think he needs to do something about his physique , the dieticians should be helping him to put on 15lbs in weight, the impact from more powerful midfielders is mainly what puts him on the deck. Before anybody says he will lose pace , don't worry he hasn't got any. Is that a problem? , not necessarily . Its the quickness of his brain and feet that really makes him stand out. A good role model for him would be Andrea Pirlo, who never seemed to hardly break into a trot but was always in the right position. Although no giant he was very strong and superb at holding up the ball. Few ever put him on the seat of his pants. He combined that with skill and intelligence. He can't change overnight of course but he really needs to look at it , to me its the only weakness in his game.

It's a matter of mentality as well as physique. David Silva & Vardy are two of the puniest players around but rarely get pushed off the ball. I think the likes of Maddison and Perez can stay on their feet if they want, but their first reaction is to collapse in a heap.
