Popular Post Finnegan Posted 9 December 2019 Popular Post Posted 9 December 2019 I get people's positivity and I'd agree that in a normal year, 8 points is a lot but not impossible. But I think you must be an ostrich if you think this Liverpool team represents anything normal. I dislike the scouse circle jerk as much as any other fan and I really don't want them to win it but it'd be a bigger surprise if they throw it away from this position than if it were to be Leicester City that won it. They're a runaway train that simply barely ever drops points. Am I right in saying if they show the form they have for the last season and a half, we can't win the league from here even if we win all of our remaining games? Betting against them because you think their "bubble has to burst" or they're "due a bad run of form" is a gambler's fallacy. It's not happening. 2nd would still be an amazing achievement for us especially if we keep it closer than Arsenal got to us when we won. 6
kingcarr21 Posted 9 December 2019 Posted 9 December 2019 We aren't in a title race whilst Liverpool keep winning. The gap is too big for us to think of winning the title. And who cares anyway? I'm certainly not thinking of winning the title. I wont care until Liverpool slip up. Its a nice position to be in. Currently all i am interested in is the points gap to 5th. Get me another European tour again that would be magical. No pressure on us whatsoever, just keep playing as we are and see if Liverpool do have a hiccup. If they lose a game before we play them then we beat them all of a sudden its game on and ill start thinking we can do it again. 1
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 9 December 2019 Posted 9 December 2019 If the gap is still only 8pts on Boxing Day then yes as that is our one chance to beat them and close the gap to 5pts, we have to go to Man City and beat them first, a huge obstacle to get past.

Liverpool are beating the teams they are expected to beat so far. They do have to play better teams soon, ie us, Wolves. The season is not over! Believe!!!! Champions League football and a cup would still be a stellar and amazing season, if we win the title it will be simply amazing! I don't think any Leicester fan needs to overate Liverpool. The stats back up how amazing Liverpool have been for the last season and a half. In any normal season, they would have walked to the title last year but they were up against a margainly better Man City team. As for beating teams they are expected to beat; I've also seen people arguing that we have beat teams we should be beating in our 8 match winning run. Despite sounding negative, I will still continuing dreaming that we can win it again. This next month is crucial. If Liverpool get through it unscathed, I just can't see them dropping enough points..

They also miss a game due to them playing in the club world cup, a lot of ifs here but if we continue to win all our games and then beat Liverpool on boxing day, we'd only be 2 points off them... Saying all that though makes me realise how many things need to fall into place for us to even have a remote chance. 1

If that happens someone should report the club to the authorities as we stole Tottenham's title in the 15/16 season too, we can't keep getting away with it.

The 3 times that didn't happen Liverpool were top at christmas. I just love that stat. It gives me hope. The problem we have is that Liverpool are prepared to give up everything this season to win the league. That's how bad they want it.

They will never consider us to be challengers unless we are ahead with 5 games to go. All I've heard is how good Leicester are to be this high up in the league, but no mention of us being able to win the league. 8 point lead that Liverpool have could quickly become 5 if we beat them and a draw and a defeat for them more than us will see us in the lead. Obviously it's not an easy thing for them to drop too many points and secondly for us to keep winning. But we are in the title race as an 8 point lead with not even half the season played is no way near irreversible. I think Liverpool players probably unconsciously think with Man City miles away from them, they've pretty much done the hard work. That mentality will hopefully see them relax in games more and drop points in important games. Then to lose momentum and that ruthlessness, hopefully is our chance to close the gap. At the end of the day, I want us to win the league ofc, but I'm just so pleased at how we are doing and if we don't do it then so be it. No way on this earth does Klopp let them relax and think they've won it. They will go the distance this year, I really hope I'm wrong but can't see it. This Liverpool team is absolutely fantastic, a different beast.
whoareyaaa Posted 9 December 2019 Posted 9 December 2019 Probably best to finish the season now, gift wrap the title and drive it over to Liverpool, its over boys. Mind the gap on the way out.
Captain... Posted 9 December 2019 Posted 9 December 2019 It is Liverpool's title to lose, they will be top on Christmas day with a game in hand. We are on record breaking form, and we will probably need to surpass our title winning points total to finish second. Forget the title enjoy the ride and see where we are in March.
Guest foxestalkisfullofidiots Posted 9 December 2019 Posted 9 December 2019 Liverpools league fixtures between now and the end of Jan Watford H Leicester A Wolves H Sheff U H Tottenham A Man U H Wolves A plus the club world thing and a tough FA Cup game hopefully will take its toll realistically looking at our fixtures I think we have a chance to cut the gap
murphy Posted 9 December 2019 Posted 9 December 2019 I don't think we can catch Liverpool or fend off Manchester City for the rest of the season, however, I think we have a chance of beating of our title winning 81pts record. That would be nice because I do think this is a better team.

He won in 15/16 and seems fairly convinced… I can’t be bothered to even contemplate it Given that we are second, I guess we are the closest thing to be challengers in the league (Liverpool aside of course !) Countryfox Posted 9 December 2019 Posted 9 December 2019 I know we all know the stats but looks so impressive in this format ... 2
Finnaldo Posted 9 December 2019 Posted 9 December 2019 This is the best Leicester team we've had ever. Depending how the next few years go we could very well never see one anywhere near the quality of the squad at present. This Liverpool squad is absolutely unbelievable, and whilst they're not as good as last year in my opinion, they're getting the luck Champions get, as we got in 15/16; luck you make by being a quality team. We need to enjoy what we're watching now because it's not guaranteed to last many more seasons. Part of what we achieved in 15/16 was down to one of the most intimidating home atmospheres in modern PL history, we need to get behind the lads, enjoy the sensational football we're given and reciprocate that by making as much noise as we can for the boys. Liverpool thus far have got through December with a breeze. If they have a wobble, great. But it's looking less and less likely to happen and they're finding a way through every game. We need to look at picking up the League or FA Cup and cementing ourselves further in second. Once we're through Norwich, Everton, Man City & Liverpool we can reassess, but until then enjoy what we've been treated to. 1

yorkie1999 Posted 9 December 2019 Posted 9 December 2019 Imagine if it went down to the last game of the season. Our last game could be a banker!
The whole world smiles Posted 9 December 2019 Posted 9 December 2019 The last 8 games have been the best in our football clubs history. A remarkable achievement for everyone involved but during that period we haven't gained a single point on Liverpool. In fact over the last nine games we have lost 3 points to them. That should tell you how hard it will be to get into and stay in a proper title race this year. Liverpool could have a bad wobble you never know but form over the last 18 months and common sense would suggest it's going to be a bit to hard to seriously challenge this season. 1
Bourbon Fox Posted 9 December 2019 Posted 9 December 2019 It feels more like a parade lap than a race. What I'm enjoying is that three years ago we were saying, 'this is the greatest Leicester City team we'll see in our lifetimes' and we're actually watching an even better side now. Titles are one part quality, two parts magic. But seeing our club build, progress, improve the way it is - that's concrete. Enjoy it. 4

David Hankey Posted 9 December 2019 Posted 9 December 2019 Leicester City are certainly in the title race and we are the only team capable of catching L'pool on current form. The media and pundits all harp on about how many points Manc City are behind them but they'll never catch up. No, Leicester City are the only team to stop this season being a one horse race.
turkish14 Posted 9 December 2019 Posted 9 December 2019 Said this in another thread (yes I believe I’m sane) if we can somehow turn over Man City, not forgetting Norwich beforehand, we could make Liverpool more nervous. beat Liverpool at home, we will be 5 points behind. beat West Ham away we are 2 points behind, as they miss a league game owing to the champions cup. best Newcastle away, we go above them by 1 point. yes they play the first of their two games in hand the next evening, but would you bet against us currently?

A reason I believe some gameday Posters on here, should hold back in their own thoughts on expected Rodgers selections & tactics....Quote "I said when I first came in that having tactical flexibility is so important," Rodgers said. "The style will always stay the same, how we want to build the game, how we want to play. But having that ability to change systems and give teams different problems is how we want to work. "We did it in pre-season in our preparation phase so that we could lay in some principles for that. We felt we have never really had to use it until this point, but the players carried it out ever so well. The players were so good in how they coped with it."
