No political discussion in this topic. That is complaining about a country, a politician, a party and/or its voters, etc

What do you think about plans like this?

I'm going mad staying inside all the time, but I'm worried Britain wants to open up a bit too early, even with social distancing measures in place. Whilst I think inside a cinema that people could be controlled, I think queues outside could be a problem, especially in the heat of summer.

Hmm good question. To be honest whenever I go to the cinema it's fairly empty unless it's a brand new release, and I could see how with seat allocations it shouldn't be too hard to social distance, although there will inevitably be situations where people will need to pass right next to someone as they get to their seat. But then another issue is how are people getting to the cinema - whenever we go we always get the train in as parking is a bit of a nightmare where we are. I travel a fair bit to Florida for the theme parks there and I was watching a vlog where they were discussing the possibility of opening up the parks there and how they would approach keeping people safe. For every solution that was discussed (based on a survey that had come out from Universal), it just brought up another problem. I think that's likely going to be the case here, unfortunately.

Insane.

Again, you have to think how an organisation like the WHO can do it's job when various big nation states present them with obviously erroneous data.

I genuinely think the WHO need teeth. It needs the ability to enter a country (by treaty) and inspect potential hotspots with impunity.

Won't ever happen, but I think it's necessary.

Russia had 3 whistle-blower doctors saying they were lacking PPE to deal with rise in Covid-19 cases.

2 of them died after falling out of a window.

Third one is still alive but also fell out of a window.

Nothing suspicious going on here. Nope. Absolutely nothing. Move along.

I find it very suspicious no-one shut the window after the first one fell out.

Just find the app thing purely symbolic.

You won't know if you have the virus if you're asymptomatic and not everyone will download the thing anyway.

How can it actually help to isolate the virus?

Answer: it won't.

I agree and I've said so here before. Ditto for an organisation overseeing environmental issues as they too transcend national borders.

However, to gun down my own argument I would say that such organisations have to be accountable to someone. How that would work I simply don't know.

Well the hell are people arsed ffs it’s only shit fast food.

Same old thing, they need to be excited about it to make the rest of us feel excited. Both my car and insurance companies have been sending me emails about what they're doing for me by working from home to keep the nation safe and are there for me etc etc. I bet bmw won't be so welcoming when i tell them i won't be buying from them ever again because of their policy of not offering payment holiday's in case i was furloughed when the cars up for renewal.

Stories like this are so silly:

The guy has squealed to the media about a full flight but he's travelling on a flight for work himself???

Think we have to accept there are going to be certain scenarios where social distancing is not a viable option.

Maybe he already had it so is prepared to take the chance ?

It was my neighbors 50th on Saturday and I watched out the bedroom window as he had a stream of visitors arrive at the back gate to his garden.

Almost like his wife had pre-arranged them all to visit at a certain time slot and they arrived on bikes and walking then spent 30 mins chatting away before leaving and the next lot of friends arrived.

Pissed me off tbh and made me think why should I follow the rules strictly while others are bending them?

IN what way were they breaking the rules?  Out for their excercise and chat to someone over the gate?  Chill out man.

Boring;  Bigger population, Europe's largest international travel hub, more tourists etc etc etc.  WAY too early to say anyone did anything wrong apart from not preparing for this exact scenario, which as far as I can see no country outside of Asia did.  Or blame the Tories obvs.  Up to you.

...necessary for perhaps preventing a much worse disaster in the future due to nation states not being honest on account of of self-interest.

Of course, this solution is pretty much fundamentally flawed too for reasons above but this event has shown quite clearly that the status quo is also untenable because a significant part of the planet cannot be trusted to help with a global response to a global problem.

They weren't chatting 'over the gate' they were all invited in at their allocated time slot to sit down around their garden table for half an hour for a natter. The visitors were also clearly using 'exercise' as an excuse to go visit someone on their birthday. Kids were playing together at the same time and nobody gave a shit about the 2m rule.(I should have made this clearer on my original post tbf)

I thought the whole idea was that families weren't supposed to mix with other families during lockdown?

I can see where you're coming from but it should be up to the airline to enforce the social distancing as well as general public. I guess until you're on the plane you're probably not going to realise how full it might be or might get, especially if you're one of the first on. The fact the airline seemed to not even care given they only reportedly advised to wash hands is worrying and you wonder how many other flights it might have happened on. They didn't even provide hand sanitiser or anything like that.

You try telling some older management types that online meetings are even slightly as effective as face to face ones. It really is a losing battle. :(

For those of us who are part of a program to encourage Video conference vs travel for meetings this is a bit of a boon.

Are we expecting lockdown measures to be loosened somewhat? And if so by how much?

FWIW, I’m beginning to wonder if any changes of note are likely until after the late may BH

mind you, that’s another three weeks away ...... they surly have to give some bits and bobs before then ?   I was originally of the opinion that next week would see some notable relaxations in certain areas but that seems to be receding fast - the track and trace app isnt ready and the testing isn’t nearly up to scratch yet
