A few years back we had a "World cup of food" thread, including dishes from severt different countries from.all over the world. There were paellas, tagines, tandoori chicken... Any culinary delight you can think of.

The people of Foxestalk voted Fish and Chips as the greatest meal in the world 😂😂

Sorry fellow Foxes, but you're scum lol:P

I expected that from Bentleys Roof, but you guys...come on!

Off topic a touch, but the spicy chicken pizza from Mario's in coalville was out of this world when I was growing up.

Also the kebab shop opposite the emporium did a donor meat pizza which was my go to drunk food.

The wise place on London road did a cracking kebab. Think it's been knocked down now though

Careful clambering down from that high horse of yours mate. Is that that funny / surprising? I rarely have a chippy but there's a lot to be said for nostalgia and the senses that come with food and it plays a huge part in people's enjoyment of it - given the make up of this forum would have grown up here, and the chippy being a staple treat in Britain, it's not that much of a shock a vote went that way. Tom Kerridge picked takeaway fish and chips as his dream main on Off Menu last year in all - it can be really, really well done too.

John Dorys in Quorn. Probably the best chippy in the country

I've been three times, and all three times they've been out of stock of everything. Won't bother again, I'm not having dinner at 5pm like some mental case

Rothley is always fantastic, I usually go there. Mountsorrel chip shop smells really nice whenever I go past but have never been in, might give them a try soon

Heard good things about this place. Always use Rothley chippy, can’t fault it at all, although you do have to queue for a while on a Friday night. I’ve also had a meal in the restaurant once before aN evening in the Woodies, was really good.

We have an amazing one in Harborough, but you are not allowed over here, so I am not telling you which one it is.

Blue Wave? Harborough Fish Bar?

Rocksalt doesn't count. Way too fancy.

What high horse? I was just informing the guy who seems to hate chippy's that we collectively voted it as the best food in the world. I never said I didn't enjoy the odd fish & chips

I remember working in Beeston south Leeds about 20 years ago. There was this hut thing,a bit like a glorified shed.At about quarter to twelve a queue formed. It was actually a chippie.

I’d never seen anything like it.

I used to dig out in the Leeds area quite a lot.The fish is completely different. At least five times better than anything you get around Leicester. You would think chippies would be dying a death by now but they still always seem to be incredibly busy.Good to see.

Yeah, I have done a fair bit of work in Leeds and the chip shops are always incredible.

Please point me in their direction, every single one I’ve been in bar Gravleys opposite Elland Road has been garbage.

Is The Spartans in Loughborough still going? Don’t think I’ve ever been in but it’s just a key directional landmark for getting around that town isn’t it.

Marios chippy in town used to be the best. Chris’ in Shilton was always good too.

I passed it recently and it was still there. Couldn't say about whether or not it was open.

Does anyone know of a chippy in or near to Leicester thst uses beef dripping to cook fish n chips?

Most Yorkshire chippies cook with beef dripping & tastes bloody lovely.

Not the best for your ticker though!

George's, Leicester Road, Loughborough. On your right hand side just after you pass the Tesco express if you approach from Leicester.

They also have a place in Belper on the main A6. We used to travel to Belper just to have their fish and chips. Why else would you go to Belper?

Pubs didnt Need food,a pub crawl in den City always offered up  the chippies inbetween....Plus a few Late Night  food vans & some Late cafes..

Trunk roads to Holiday destinations ,,halfway houses, dass and pubs....."Stoooopp the bus we want a wee wee" became a Travellers Anthem

Rain Shine or storm, shanks pony, After pictures, Daisy's bicycle for two, Single coach,Open doubledecker, unc's car, wow those fish or pie n chips....!!!

Most of those that had the real traditional British chippies were British or even Greek and understood the Brits liking for "proper" fish n chips. They have long sold out to other nationalities that don't specialise, just whack on all the fast food that they can.

I’m sure my favourite was near the Spen Lane area Kirkstallish.Near the river???It’s the batter I love. The fish would melt in the mouth. It was so good i’d buy the fish without the chips.Bit of salt loads of vinegar.Spot on.Not strictly Leeds but Otley had two crackers. One was like a sit down job.The other was not much bigger than my front room. Both different class to anything south way.

There is an amazing fish and chip van that goes round East Leicestershire…. Beats all shop based chippies into a cocked hat…

covers Bushby, Houghton, Bilesdon and Tugby amongst other places…. Really good

Must have mushy peas with mine!
