Brendan Rodgers

People on this forum need to have a word with themselves. Criticised those tactics in the game in the first 30, but not so much after that eh!?

That was a tactical masterclass. He out thought Guardiola and we took them apart. Sensational!

:brendan_still:

Brilliant tactics from Rodgers today.

I’ve been one of his biggest critics but his game plan was clear and despite an early set back it was clear we were going to get opportunities playing that way as the game went on.

Clearly learned some lessons from last season. I’ve no idea what people are talking about when they say he gives the big teams too much respect, the problem he’s always had here (and at Celtic before) is that he gives them too little respect and tries to beat them at their own game. No sign of that today.

Masterclass, well done Brendan.

Is he luring the opposition into a false sense of security, where we play poor enough for the first half hour where the oppositions mentality changes to think they've got the in the bag. Then take the game to them and they're left for dead.

Rodger’s out here playing 8D chess

Pep made a huge error taking Fernandinho off in my opinion. Rodri is good but nowhere near Fernandinho's level. It changed their shape and allowed us to get further up the pitch. Saying that, we did have to take advantage which is no mean feat against those players. A super performance from the lads.

Give Brendan credit today. Mahrez tore Chilwell a new arse last season while De Bruyne took the piss. Most people predicted Justin would look a mug today. Mahrez and De Bruyne were non existent because Brendan organised the side perfectly. Justin was brilliant today. Absolute masterclass  in tactics today and long may it continue.

Very interesting post match comments from him, saying it's taken him 13 years to play like that and he had to find a different way of playing rather than just being positive and playing the normal game.

Maybe he is learning after all:appl:

Very interesting indeed :appl:fair play, seemed a more humbled Brendan too.

As @StriderHiryu said, very interesting interview from Brendan just now.

Going into this season, after the shitshow we produced at the back end of last season, he desperately needed to react in a positive way.

Only three games in but we’ve seen big differences already, especially today where despite a negative approach, he got our setup and tactics absolutely spot on today, he had the balls to change it and fair play to him.

Maybe we are starting to see a different side of Brendan, a guy who actually has balls and reacts to various situations in the right manner, instead of sticking to the same philosophy and being stubborn.

Just jumping on as high as a kite after today. Quality is bringing in Mendy and Amarty, or asking Ndidi to fill in. All doing a job and that has to be confidence from the manager to say to these players, you're good players I trust you to go out there and do the business.

Add to that the following:

- Praet is a man reborn. He makes a big difference in every game now. Outstanding workrate, quality and teamwork.

- Mendy is a man reborn. Look at the way he turned for our first goal to beat the press. That was class, and he has had 3 good games in a row now, and will be an important part of the team till next year, possibly even beyond that.

- JJ moved to left back and has a few high profile errors. Outstanding today.

- Amartey hasn't played a league game in what? 18 months? He looked like he was a regular part of the team today!

This is outstanding man-management, getting the best out of every member in the squad.

I couldn't agree more.

It's actually 23 months since Amartey's last league game, I think. Even more impressive!

I know Maddison has been out and Praet normally wouldn’t play; however you look at the overall role Praet has played in the first three games so far, Brendan has clearly changed Praet’s role. It’s clear to me that Brendan has given him more licence to get forward, you look at his movement against Burnley for example, he was picking up spaces that he normally wouldn’t pick up when he played last season.

Mendy has found his early 18/19 season performances again, fair play to him.

JJ has been getting stick for his defensive displays, but second half today his interceptions and aggressive pressing was superb.

Brendan has reacted well to the disappointment of last season and so have the players, still early days though ;)
