Nigel Pearson: Here and Now

Recommended Posts

In all seriousness, I’d absolutely love to see him in a DoF type role. He is great at strategy, planning, etc., but never enjoyed facing the media.

Give him an office deep in the bowels of the training ground somewhere, and let him guide us forward like a Yorkshire Buddha.

I'm not really sure about glamourizing the ostrich comment.. it was stupid and unprofessional. As was FOAD.

Pretty sure you were saying to take Rodgers press conference comments with a pinch of salt? So surely the same applies here.

The FOAD thing I don't even mind, probably shouldn't have said it, but the bloke giving him abuse is going way over the top himself and it's a standard fan reaction of being able to give abuse but not take it.

Rodgers is saying things relevant to the football.. the ostrich thing had nothing to do with the football - there was no need for it. You get asked a question, just answer it professionally and normally.

Yeah fair enough, the fan shouldn't be giving abuse either, but as a footballer or manager, the same normal societal rules don't apply to you - you need to be untouchable when you're in the public domain like that. It's like the Ronaldo phone kid thing - if someone puts a phone in mine or your face, we're probably within our rights to do that - for a footballer/manager to do that to a fan it's unprofessional and out of line.

Quite frankly, both of those issues contributed to him losing his job, too. So don't think that the hierarchy thought it was great, either.

Nah he was talking pressure off the team, classic Mouriho tactics, papers were talking about the ostrich comments more than the mistakes made by players, he was taking one for the team.

I can't really disagree with you but it was also refreshing (not to mention slightly hilarious) to see a manager who speaks openly and plainly and not in politics and soundbites.  It  endears him to the majority of us I think.

He wasn't doing anything like that intentionally - he had a head loss moment.

I don't think you understood the ostrich comment mate that's ok, when you get it you'll get it.

Look you don't bring up ostriches off the cuff like that, couldn't be more premeditated.

He needs to be the MANAGER.

I would personally love to have Pearson back in some sort of director role. Just let him lay down the foundations and have a head coach that operates under Pearson's sports science and recruitment philosophy.

Because this thread has made me reminisce, I thought I'd do a bit of interesting research on Pearson's recruitment history with us. I am listing below every single signing that I believe we made under the leadership of Pearson, be it loan or permanent. This is just my opinion, so it is entirely open for debate.

Wayne Brown bad signing? He was pretty solid until it all kicked off around the play offs. Nobby Solano and N'Guessan definitely go down as good signings as well.

Yeah Wayne Brown was actually very good for that season until the fall out just before the playoffs. Harsh to put him in the bad signings, in terms of actual performances he was a good signing, he just turned out to be a ****. But you can’t really expect Pearson and the recruitment staff to know who a player votes for while scouting them.

remarkably small number of low risk bad signings

also will point out a lot of the 'bad signings' were pretty good players

Bad Signings

Nicky Adams 2008/09 - really rated him for us tbh very harsh imo

Wayne Brown 2008/09 - was good for us shame about the fascism

Robbie Neilson 2009/10 -

Yann Kermorgant 2009/10 - quality championship player, shame about that moment

James Vaughan 2009/10

Ryan McGivern 2009/10

Tom Kennedy 2010/11

Nathan Delfouneso 2011/12

Marco Futacs 2012/13

Harry Kane 2012/13 - world class player just not at the time

Jesse Lingard 2012/13 - PL player just did not work out

Zoumana Bakayogo 2013/14

Ignasi Miquel 2013/14

Tom Lawrence 2014/15 - quality championship player

Ben Hamer 2014/15

Nick Powell 2014/15

from the above there is not a single from my reckoning big signing other than kermorgant
