Lingard playing through the middle of the England midfield is a joke. Can't believe he's back in the fray after just a handful of decent games.

injuries ....... if it wasn’t him then it would have been you .........

I retired from international football a few years back. Couldn't hack the jet set lifestyle.

Was thinking this myself earlier, Maddison could play out of skin for 2 months and he'd get 15 minutes at the end of a game.

Southgate said tournament experience will count for a lot and that he already knows his team for the first game. Guaranteed that none of our players are getting in the team.

Wow, doesn't surprise me.

Oh well, better for us, players rested for next season.

I was looking at transfers in 18/19 the other week, we spent £24m on Ward and Ghezzal the summer after Raphinia had scored 15 goals for Guimares - he moved to Sporting for about £5m lol

Think if given the choice then from the Portuguese league, most FTers would have preferred Adrien Silva. lol

It's all very dodgy isn't it though in fairness, I think there's better than Maddison at the moment. On the bright side, I don't see him leaving us for anyone else soon if he's vying for an England place because he gets regular football, where else better is there where he get regular football?

He won't need regular football to get into the squad if he moves?

I don't think any of ours will even get in the 22. Even if Barnes and Maddison return from injury he'll say they aren't quite back to full fitness. Lingard will be in the squad.

Southgate's team for the first match will be:

Pickford

James

Stones

Maguire

Chilwell

Rice

Henderson

Mount

Sterling

Kane

Rashford

And against the very top teams he'll move to a 343 by lobbing in a third centre back at the expense of Rashford and moving his love child Mount up to play as a wide forward.

Very difficult to see a spot for either of them in the 23 even if fully fit. Too many players Southgate favours and in a 23 man squad you can only really have 2 options. At left wing he's got Rashford, Sterling and Grealish so Barnes is up against it. Grealish likely to then be considered the ACM with Foden and Mount and therefore no Maddison either.

Annoying as what other team who is 3rd with two young English creators and goalscorers wouldn't see their players automatic picks?
