I had to chuckle at all the complaints about The King having cancer making the news but so far I’ve not seen anyone have a pop at this

“Taylor Swift has begun her journey back to the US from Tokyo to see her boyfriend Travis Kelce play in the Super Bowl”

I mean Jesus f’ing christ I despair 😩

Diversity and inclusion, box ticking ain't it.

Blonde, speech impediment, Welsh etc.

Might as well have Bonnie Tyler doing 606, then.

Just been reading about celebs carbon footprint. She is one of the worst for clocking up air miles.

That story led me onto one of the flight tracking websites.

I know at any one time there are 1000s of aircraft in the air, but to see it pictorially displayed is some thing else.

Below is European air space and also globally.

Sometimes using goal difference as an extra point doesnt work in every scenario.

The most recent example is with us and Leeds in terms of how its an extra point even if they cant us.  We have a goal difference +13 better than Leeds and are 12 points ahead of them, basically 4 wins where we lose 4. If that happens their gd goes up by at least 4 and ours down by as least 4, bring the gd difference down to +5. You would also think one or two or those games could be 2 or 3 goal wins or losses which essentially wipes out the gd advantage.

I did debate putting this into the pedantry thread....

Robbie Savage is THE WORST broadcaster on radio.

How the hell has he kept the 606 gig?

His footballing insight is virtually non-existent.

He doesn't do this now, as far as I'm aware, but for the first few months of he being on 606, he would often deride callers opinions by asking if they have ever played professional football. Of course the answer was no, so he would then dismiss their views/arguments.

BBC should have got rid then.

I think we need to cool it on the projections in general.

We've been so good this year the only things people have been getting into arguments about are our playing style being "boring" and projections for those chasing.

The projections were interesting to begin with to see where we might get to but recently it's gone OTT for me.

Just enjoy it.

It looks proper nasty, doesn't it?

That being said...

https://www.iea.org/energy-system/transport/aviation

"In 2022 aviation accounted for 2% of global energy-related CO2 emissions".

https://www.iea.org/reports/co2-emissions-in-2022

"CO2 emissions from energy combustion and industrial process accounted for 89% of energy-related greenhouse gas emissions in 2022."

Energy generation is still the much, much bigger elephant in the room than all those planes flying about when it comes to carbon emissions.

I watch to much air crash investigation and this picture is not doing my growing fear of flying any good 😝

I know it looks like it’s massive up there but routes are generally run down corridors in the sky & it just amazes me there aren’t more accidents, hats off to air traffic control.

I watched 1 episode where a plane had a total electrical failure it meant they and everyone else were blind to each other, how air traffic control managed that, as well as the crew themselves as they knew there was a strong possibility of being shot out the ski.

It took a brave crew to continue on their course, they agreed any deviation picked up by other aircraft or any scrambled fighter could be seen as a hijack situation so they continued their planned course to Brighton I think it was & hoped they wouldn’t be seen as a threat whilst they tried to get electrics back.

Whilst this was happening air traffic control could see another plane at the same altitude as the ghost plane but going south/north (ghost plane east/west) they predicted that they were 90secs from colliding if everyone stayed at the same altitude (if in contact ghost plane would have been instructed to start its descent) but as it wasn’t air traffic control had to make a call to instruct the other plane to descend hoping the ghost plane was still under control of the crew and that they continued at the last known altitude.

The S/N plane drops and then sees the ghost plane cross just above them, it shows real-time footage and man a plane going at 500mph ground speed when your doing the same cross on the same line as you looks bloody scary.

Had it not been for those particular crews and air traffic control on that day it might have been a catastrophe.

It just highlights the skills required and also the complete trust in equipment (pilots are pretty much blind despite having the best seat in the house) and in each other to keep us safe.

I know I went off on a tangent then and probably reading that will scare a lot of already nervous flyers (myself included) but I for what ever reason felt compelled to mention it, probably more to highlight the skills of crews more so than to scare anyone.

It does look congested but access one of those tracking websites and zoom in and suddenly there appears loads of space. Sure, around airports it increases dramatically, but aircraft colliding whilst in flight is incredibly rare, even more so these days.

You know what they say; you are far more likely to be involved in an accident travelling to catch your flight.

Watching trump rallies is my guilty pleasure. This campaign they have taken a new level of humour, South Carolina yday was amazing. The way he mocks Biden and his grandiose statements (under me we had the greatest economy in the history of the world) are brilliant. When I worked in the USA during the 2016 campaign I could never attend one, would love to see it in person

It would be hilarious if he was on the stand-up circuit and the stakes weren't so high.

But he isn't and they are.

Politicians all lie, and in this new age of Western decline, none of them are going to make our lives materially better. The stakes have been high for a long time, Trump coming in for four years is not going to make the world go pop, our gradual decline set in long ago and he's not going to accelerate that.

Might as well invoke gallows humour rather than tie ourselves up in doomsday rhetoric for another generation.

I find Trump rallies far more interesting than listening to Sunak spinning his way out of yet another malfunction.

Not sure how welcome pol discussion is in this thread so I'll not belabour things beyond this post, but safe to say that we disagree entirely on the amount of influence Trump and moreso his policymaking has on the future and on the inevitability of our current direction.

Remember when strong men would demonstrate their strength by tearing phone books in half? Well, you too can now achieve this.

Might not look that thick, but I can tell you , from my experience of delivering the bloody things last week, you don't really want more than 25 in your bag at one time along with all your other mail / parcels. When you consider most walks will have at least 500 drops it's some strain on your back.

I can only presume the idiot who agreed the contract for Royal Mail to deliver them as never lifted a delivery bag in their life.

But then those planes are the size of Devon & Cornwall or Australia.

Me usually: The US is far from perfect but I'd much rather have it as the global hegemon than any of its rivals, and I appreciate the security that being part of NATO brings us.

Me when I go on a UK newspaper's website and read "Taylor Swift introduces Jason Kelce to Ice Spice after jetting in from Tokyo":

This “Can I have your shirt?” stuff is a plague on football.

I get that it’s generally harmless and mostly kids, but why would you encourage your child to beg?

It’s pre-empted bollocks from people wanting free stuff. Completely takes away from any good will and almost guilts players into doing it. If they ignore it, they’ll end up getting a backlash from the same losers that make the signs.

I remember someone on here saying they saw the same pushy dad with his dad every game doing this last season and saw the kid getting loads of kits over the course of time, no doubt most if not all are on ebay.

Macaroni cheese belongs on a plate of macaroni cheese ONLY.  It is not a fvcking side to be added to other meals or put inside other food. People who eat in that way are the food equivalent of 1970s celebrity nonces.

It can be a perfectly good side dish.  Putting it in stuff is weird though.
