Spurs 2-0 A Post Match Thread

- I've picked up some criticism of the ref on this thread - not flawless but he let play go and didn't fall for a lot of Spurs "gamesmanship" in situations where if he did, it would've been tense.  Pawson is certainly on my naughty list but I've seen much worse ref performances from him and others.

 

- Justin MOTM - he keeps his place in first XI if/when both Tim + Ricardo are back until something changes.  Earlier this week I said POTS so far was between Vardy Justin & Mendy.  That performance may have been the tiebreaker in Justin's favor.  

 

- Timmy, Ndidi, Fofana, Albrighton, Kasper all great performances.  Perfect role for Albrighton

 

- Vardy has always been a better all around player then people give him credit for, but he was great without being great if that makes sense.  Just a good performance.  Don't know if it was picked up on in the match thread but in the first half (maybe mid way through) he got up well to win a long ball and immediately grabbed his groin.  So that wasn't something that happened late, he was playing with it before the pen goal.  Makes his 2nd half performance and the forced OG even more special, but man we're playing with fire leaving injured players in to play games.  Like - even if they come out and say he's fine for next weekend, I don't think that can be trusted. 

 

- Nacho's cameo was short but he did exactly what was called for.  Also great to see Dan back.  

 

- We've beat Man City Arsenal and Tottenham away now.  Some will turn around and say 0 points from WH, FUL, AV, EVE negates that, but I don't buy that.  Every game is its own thing.  Every team is inconsistent, ourselves included.  We are good enough to compete for Top 4 this year - as a Leicester fan I don't think you can ask for anything more. 

 

- Great to see any clean sheet, especially away against Tottenham.  That should give us confidence - Son was essentially anonymous and I don't know the last time I've seen that.  We can look so vulnerable on the counter and so unable to break teams down that sit back.  Obviously Jose knew this (although he may set up that way regardless).  For us to close up shop so well was great to see.  And even moreso - deal with some adversity and come out the other end.  After the Maddison goal was called back, we didn't blink.  Missed chances - same thing.  Just really positive.

 

- Maybe the only team that's more satisfying to beat than Tottenham is Man Utd - hopefully we can put in a performance against them.  I promise you if we beat them then you won't struggle to see / hear the "Are Leicester title contenders?" talking points and articles.  If we lose to them then it's another wasted opportunity.  When we win games like this we will have turned the corner towards being a title contender vs just top 4/6 contender.

Still not a fan of how every VAR offside decision is done at an angle. Surely they could install some spider came along the sideline for squared on angles

And Aurier's left sleeve definitely plays Maddison's left sleeve on. It's so bad it's laughable. (And the frame they used showed the ball at least 6" away from Justin's boot)

Wilf is the difference between us being a top 6/7 team and potential top 4. I think a lot of people (myself included) forgot just how good he is. I said to a few people not so long ago that I don’t think wilf goes straight back into the team given the form of Mendy... very happy to hold my hands up and say I was very wrong. Mendy will still have a role to play, but Wilf gives the team that extra physicality we’ve been lacking at times, that bit of nastiness and giving fouls away in the right places at the right time. JJ must take a lot of credit too, he’s looking every bit the premier league player and to do so coming straight from league one is pretty incredible, doesn’t happen often. We are such a beautiful club to follow, such a bright future to look forward to long may it continue...!

almost made a point of this the other week. 

 

put a camera on a track that lines the sideline, elevated a bit

have the camera follow the last defender.  you could theoretically do this very easily by putting some tracker on the linesman and just have the camera follow that

you will then have exponentially better angles for VAR review

 

the technology is certainly there.

 

another thing to point out is Maddison got one thing wrong with his "Vardy tribute" goal - straying offside.  Has Vardy ever had a goal ruled out due to offside by VAR?  I can't remember one.  He's incredible at it.  (I say this knowing that it's debatable whether JM was even offside)

Looked to me (I may be wrong, I usually am) that BR has learnt how to get JM and YT in the same team, put JM up too with JV. Looked like a 4 4 2 most of the game. 

If so I am all for it. Great result and hopefully a catalyst for the rest of the season. 

To finally have Wilf back, wow!! nearly half way through the season and building momentum from 2nd, this could be a special season.

That’s true Cardiff, but it was also Jose’s plan to give us possession and draw us on to set up the counter attack. I was more pleased with our tactical discipline, never over committing.

well, maddison and vardy didn't play that well today. the goals were defence errors. but I thought maddison's offside goal was really good ... but unfortunate.

Have we ever beaten one of the supposed Big 6 since we returned to the Prem and the manager has admitted we were the better side? I honestly can't think of many, the best was Klopp when we beat them 2 nil with that Vardy thunderbastard and he didn't have a good word to say about us. It's astonishing.

The chances we created, the ball from YT to Madders sticks in mind, one rotation of the ball faster and it's a goal. That's wouldn't have even come up if YT was sitting back with Evans and Little Wes.

Don't think LVG gave us much credit after the 5-3 either.
