Only way to stop it is to ban them, nothing else is going to work. They think they won’t get kicked out because the league needs them to get the money in. You can’t bend to them.

This, action has to be taken but it has to be proportionate. I’d ban the players from competing in the Euro’s and I’d also dish out a points deduction too for this season. Take 100 points off them all. Relegate them all and then promote extra teams. If teams can be relegated or folded for financial struggle, this lot can be for being a bunch a c-bombs.

I don't think this is anything more than bluff,.but if it's not and it goes ahead, I see Pep, Klopp, Tuchel, Mourinho all walking.

These guys - no matter what you make of them-  are in love with football. They won't buy into this.

This is what I wonder about. Players and managers are on board with this too?

I can see Klopp resigning, not sure about the rest though.

I cannot imagine players thinking this is a good idea so I can't see this going through.

Do players care about International Football it’s not that a big deal to most? As long as they get paid their money and this competition will likely Double or triple their existing salaries. It’s just pure greed at the end of the day.

No idea, just posed the question. More a badge of honour that a genuine aim I would imagine these days, but I posed the question as one of several levers UEFA, FIFA, associations could pull to dissuade players from following (even more) coin

How could player transfers happen to/from these clubs in the super friendly league without the blessing of other bodies?

Don’t the governing bodies have to sanction these? I guess the contracts of each player could be bought out completely.

If and it’s a big if, they do decide to penalise the clubs that join the “Not So Super League”, then it’s going to impact the domestic revenue in the short term.

However, in the long term it will adjust without them.

This might mean that players are paid less, streaming / watching becomes cheaper etc.

Certain clubs have always had more money and influence than others. This is a power grab by the 12 as they struggle financially to try and stay elite. It’s a flip of a coin which side could go down in flames if I’m honest.

If the UEFA, FA and the Premier League kicked the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea or Manchester City out of all competitions, can you see the “trophy chasing” / “glory hunter” fan base still supporting them when they don’t win anything? They’d transition to the others.

If this goes ahead, I wonder if it alters what the likes of Everton do with the new stadium, or the Saudi Arabian family purchasing Newcastle United view as good value.

This exactly.

The glory chasing people they're aiming the league at won't stick around when there's no trophies to play for. No super star players to cheer. Because if no international football is the reality for players at these clubs most won't play for the greedy *****

The whole thing comes across to me as staged, the governing bodies probably knew it was coming, maybe they've agreed on a joint course of action. It's all highly cynical and I'm not encouraged by the fact that the 'good guys' are not particularly good guys at all. So I'm highly, highly sceptical.

They've already planned for the backlash. They'd have been very naive to have not expected it...

Pep won’t resign - the bloke is so morally conflicted, it’s unreal

I don't think many, if any, will.

Klopp perhaps, he's quite a committed and vocal socialist, although it'll be interesting to see how much of a hypocrite he is.

Really the most powerful thing that could happen would be players and managers quitting all those clubs and refusing to join any team involved.

They ultimately have the most power, far more than we do as fans.

As much as we do have some power as fans and it probably will be disappointing how few fans of those six actually do follow up and boycott, if television companies in China, America, Russia, Japan, Australia, Korea, the Oil states etc all still lump up billions for broadcast rights then they'll just push on regardless.

But if no decent player actually is willing to play and the players actually stand up with the fans and refuse to take part then the plan dies in seconds.

you are incorrect IMO,  quite simply without the tv money then we wont be able to keep our better players. We get about 150mill a year because of the tv deal, it wont even be 10% of that without the big 6.

I take your point about the financial importance of TV money to all clubs.

But a lot of demand for TV football is at the weekend (worldwide, I presume) - and this "Super League" is supposed to run mid-week.

Unless the "Super League" clubs think they can also stage a competition for TV at the weekend, this gives national leagues like the PL more bargaining power, at least, doesn't it?

There would still be a big demand for TV football at weekends, even if the "Super League" clubs had been expelled....

It is a big deal to alot of players and countries though. Just because alot in England fall out of love with it doesn't mean it isnt the proudest moment of most players careers.

It is seen as a massive privilege and honour to play for their country for a lot of South American players

Not something they may want to just throw away

It's time for real football people to make a stand and protect our sport. I know some players don't actually live the game and see it more as a way of earning big money but I'd imagine the vast majority grew up loving the game. It would be a massive statement if the very best players started to voice their disapproval of this shite and even refuse to partake

What tickles me is that Spurs are included, having never won the premier league...... it’s so farcical it’s almost too stupid to laugh at. I’m surprised the haven’t tapped Forest up.....

In all seriousness what does qualify Spurs for this? Big stadium? Harry Kane?

Just one question, will any FT Member consider buying a TV subscription to watch this 'Super Circus'?    I just wonder how JP Muppet have come up with the numbers for this?

I normally work in Malaysia for 4 months of the year and Astro gave up showing the UCL as viewing figures at 3 am local time (for midweek games) went down like Mo Salah at the Kop end.

So I assume the audience will come in the main, from the fans of the participating Clubs and the US?   Will there really be any interest this?  Really?

More I think about this, this could be a a scam to get 'Project Stitch-up' back on the Agenda.

If I was an Arsenal or Spuds fan, I would be even more embarrassed than normal this morning.  These two Clubs are not 'super' by any stretch of the imagination.

I get the feeling this is Leicester's fault.

And others.

Every year some other team 'gets close' to qualifying for the top four or looks like they could challenge eventually. Wolves, Everton and, going further back, Southampton and Newcastle. Now it's West Ham and us again.

I do hope both we and the Hammers finish in third and fourth this season. It would be bloody magnificent after this.
