The Super League

this has already sort of happened, as the dutch and Belgian leagues are to merge

I'm not sure this will actually happen - the latest vote was only an approval in principle from the Belgian clubs, nothing formal has been approved or sanctioned yet. There are still a lot of stumbling blocks to get past; the promotion/relegation system can get very complicated and it reduces the number of European places on offer - the Dutch and Belgian leagues currently get 4-5 each, they're not going to give a potential BeNeLiga 8-10 places. Also, this is another proposal which seems to only aid the larger clubs, with smaller clubs being pushed into the second tier.

This is worth a listen on it, for anyone who is interested:

I really don't think merging leagues is the answer to increasing competition - if anything it's a step closer to the Super League which everyone despises. Do people really think that throwing PSG into the Spanish League will help with competition? Or by combining German and Dutch leagues you'll end Bayern's dominance? All it does is continue to push mid-sized clubs further down the table and further away from the dream of CL/EL football.

The answer for me lies in spreading TV wealth more equally - in Spain for example it is allocated based on the number of times you are broadcast, meaning Real, Barca and Ateleti hoover the majority up. Our system is fairer, spreading the revenue much more equally and therefore produces different title winners and CL contenders year on year.

Pal, there will always be Leicester City. We won't go down without a fight and neither will any of the proper clubs.

Even more so now, after the year we've had that the most important thing for being a football fan is being able to get back to watching their team and the social element if they can, and if not at least feel part of it all and know that the game feels meaningful and authentic.

Please reach out mate if you are feeling really down, don't ever think it's the end.

Just read this and although this has been a difficult year for many in life you do sound like you are really struggling at the moment.  As Ric Flair said, if it gets too much then do reach out, friends, family, organisations. Do not feel alone ever. I am sure all the decent Foxes Talk family will also offer support. Whatever your present may be, always remember that it doesn’t have to be your future too.

Agreed whether this happens or not these sides part of this cabal need to be made an example of or else it just gives sides a licence to do things like this with impunity.

My only issue with relegating them, is that it’s harsh on the teams already in that division, aspiring to get out.

Difficult one for the 14 remaining PL clubs in trying to kick them out of the league. According to PL league rules 75% of clubs (ie. 15) have to agree to any changes, this leaves them one short of implementing such action. Don't know how they could get round this.:dunno:

100%, all it takes is two or three names to break cover and it crumbles like a house of cards.

The thing is a lot of players are paying lip service now to boost their credential with the fans.

If they're seriously opposed to it they need to be publicly explicit that they won't play for the clubs. It's easy to buy favour now but move later on and say 'they convinced me with their vision'.

I read that the vote is 2/3rds of the clubs on the premier league website regarding the end of season meetings (so 14 is enough), where does it say 75%?

Considering he's definitely a player in line for one of these clubs and is possibly shutting himself out of a huge pay packet, then Little Wes has big balls

Have we heard anything from the PFA yet? I really think the PFA should be taking more of a lead in this rather than leaving the players out to dry.

He does! He's clearly highly ambitious and wants to get to the top of the game, but it's good to see that he gets the bigger picture and is prepared to take a stand.

It will be 75% of the clubs that haven't voted to leave the 6 are not invited.

So 75% of the 14 teams will have a say because the other 6 have disregarded the premier league

Everton is saddened and disappointed to see proposals of a breakaway league pushed forward by six clubs.

Six clubs acting entirely in their own interests.

Six clubs tarnishing the reputation of our league and the game.

Six clubs choosing to disrespect every other club with whom they sit around the Premier League table.

Six clubs taking for granted and even betraying the majority of football supporters across our country and beyond.

At this time of national and international crisis - and a defining period for our game - clubs should be working together collaboratively with the ideals of our game and its supporters uppermost.

Instead, these clubs have been secretly conspiring to break away from a football pyramid that has served them so well.

And in that Pyramid Everton salutes EVERY club, be it Leicester City, Accrington Stanley, Gillingham, Lincoln City, Morecambe, Southend United, Notts County and the rest who have, with their very being, enriched the lives of their supporters throughout the game's history. And vice versa.

The self-proclaimed Super Six appear intent on disenfranchising supporters across the game - including their own - by putting the very structure that underpins the game we love under threat.

The backlash is understandable and deserved – and has to be listened to.

This preposterous arrogance is not wanted anywhere in football outside of the clubs that have drafted this plan.

On behalf of everyone associated with Everton, we respectfully ask that the proposals are immediately withdrawn and that the private meetings and subversive practises that have brought our beautiful game to possibly its lowest ever position in terms of trust end now.

Finally we would ask the owners, chairmen, and Board members of the six clubs to remember the privileged position they hold – not only as custodians of their clubs but also custodians of the game. The responsibility they carry should be taken seriously.

We urge them all to consider what they wish their legacy to be.

He is right, I'd like to see the players throw every game in comedic fashion.

If the players won't play there's no competition.

Make 'statements' all you like.

The problem is, largely, American owned clubs and the idea of a franchise model. Granted the UAE and Abrahamovic are involved but that's for clear financial benefit.

We've been selling clubs to Americans who have no interest in the sport. It's crippling for the game.

State all you like. If the Glazers are still at Man U and FSG at Liverpool this isn't off the table with the two biggest clubs because its what their owners know.

I was thinking because of the guaranteed money possibly the 5 non-founding clubs who get allowed in who will drop in and out season after season but even then maybe not.

I don't think so - it's a closed shop, like Major League Baseball in the US - once you're in, you're in for good. Back in the 1980s, when City were in one of their regular struggles, I tried explaining to an American friend about relegation, and he couldn't understand the concept at all.
