Can I ask why next season and not this?

Punish them now. Hard and swift. They didn't sign next season they signed this week.

Because you would need to finish the season off in the championship, but there wouldn't be any play offs, just top six going up,  and there wouldn't be any relegation from the bottom 3 in the prem.

If the punishment does end up being a points deduction (and it should). The only fair way to implement it would be for next season.

otherwise arsenal get off for free.

totally agree. tey would make sure that any deduction this season would not be enough to relegate any of them. 20-30 points next season could easily see Arsenal at least on current form in a potential relegation battle. If they relegated them, that would provide added interest to the championship next season, as there would still be plenty of people interested to see if they could bounce back, which could in turn bring more TV income to the championship clubs.

They would all choose starting every game with a one goal deficit if it came to it.

Man U would be -24 points so far based on that scenario.

Depends on the amount.

I mentioned previously that the matter of sitting on committees/ receiving confidential commercial  information on a rival organisation (over a considerable period -this didnt happen in a couple of weeks) was more than just an act of bad  faith and was borderline a criminal conspiracy to commit fraud. That would place the six club's executive officers in an invidious position.

The PL has this in its locker and should not fear push back from the club's concerned on the matter of sanctions and penalties. That said, points deductions are more relevant and proportionate  when a club has secured an advantage by breaking the rules . Playing an ineligible player/ breaching FFP / betting or bribery  infringements and all that stuff so that points are gained that give an unfair advantage . That is not the case here surely. The remedy must be financial - in the 100s of millions

don't forget in the past, our previous owners weren't squeaky clean.......

Detail the rules they actually broke.

Not a chance they get any meaningful points deductions, has anyone clarified if there's grounds to give out any?

Agreed its clearly not going to happen, any punishment will be something for show only and that's if there is even one.

There is grounds to apply some kind of punishment but I am not sure if its restricted to specific types of punishment.

Re-route the planned HS2 line and make a several compulsory purchases. Might take a bit longer to get to manchester once it’s done a tour of london, liverpool and machester but they could build some kind of monument for passengers to look at at the site of where each ground was, something like levy being flushed down a giant toilet for example.

The fact that they spent months and months planning this on the side, while at the same time being involved in PL & UEFA meetings and being privy to sensitive information on finances, deals and plans etc, before using that information to set up a rival entity that would have greatly reduced PL & UEFA’s earning capacity... aren’t there actual laws against that sort of thing?!

The punishment will be removing their personal from committees. That will be it. We need to make peace with that.

Think this is pretty much spot on. Probably some alteration or re-affirmation re future voting percentages so these 6 clubs can have no chance of putting through their own agenda without the overall consent of the Premier League.

There may be a token small fine but there won't be a points deduction or similar. I don't expect UEFA to do anything other than just say welcome back don't do it again though, there will be a few years, probably, where they have less influense in the various committees.

Of potential more long term interest might be the Government review. They could choose to put in place potential legislation if this was to be proposed again but also look at the German model of club ownership. Here, I think we need to be careful what you wish for. We have very good owners and a 49:51 ratio ownership may not work in our favour. These might end up being the most meaningful "punishements".

Not a chance this will happen. As no money changed hands and JP Morgan has admitted the whole thing was a mistake, they'll probably all walk away without paying any fines.

So thats what Real and Barca are hoping for is it lol

Yep - maybe they think that by grimly refusing to abandon the project they'll somehow manage to screw €300m out of every club that left and their money worries will be over. I'm no legal expert, but I think they may have a job on their hands with this...

Although it would be hilarious if all 6 PL clubs had to fork out 300m each, the fact it would help save Barca and Real from there shocking financial mismanagement almost puts me off the idea  lol

A 20 Point deduction this season would cost City the league probablly relegate Arsenal  Chelsea  and Liverpool  losing out on Europe  wth no penalty for Spurs

I'd relegate Arsenal and Spurs just for having the cheek to think that they deserve to be considered amongst Europe's elite.

No chance they would have folded in 48 hours if they had a 300m penalty clause each.

Doubt any penalty clause would go to Barc or Real, JP Morgan are the real sharks in this. They have assets of around $3 trillion, Madrid and Barc are small beer to these guys
