Money aside, I'd rather have Toney or Abraham.  But Toney probably isn't moving and Abraham would cost twice the price, so for 15 million this seems like a pretty good gamble.  Still doesn't solve our greatest problem, though, which is out wide.

Imo Toney will struggle hugely in the Premier league. Abraham is a mid table striker who has benefitted from playing in a team that dominates the ball and creates lots of chances.

Eduoard on the other hand has real class.

...every year we sit back and wait for the player to come in and solve the Right Wing problem!!!

Every year there is barely a sideways glance at what we clearly see as a problem, the frustration is that no one else does. We bolster up the defence, over populate the midfield, now filling the team with options upfront but no one seeks to sort out the Right Wing.

It is as if they are waiting for Riyad to come back and have had people pop in now and again to keep his seat warm, and the position is retired until he returns.

We really can not continue to ignore the lack of balance and options provided when we have a genuine Right Winger in place.

I get the feeling we will be going into the season waiting for someone to fill the role, what we need to do, so it seems, is to get use to it.

That’s sort of a contradiction isn’t it mate

what your saying is “if he moves to a team that dominates the ball and creates lots of chances in the premier league he will be a success”

plenty of teams like that at top of premier league

Toney has all the tools to go right to the top my mates lad played with him and said he was special beyond belief, If Toney believes that then he might just be a huge success in the premier league

15m is a risk free steal, it’s less than musa cost!! How do we do it? Soumare and edouard for 35m 😂😂

Could be seriously good business and provide some of the squad strength we missed last season.

Apparently the deal will be sanctioned as soon as Celtic announce Ange Postecoglou as their new manager (not sure why we would have to wait for that to happen first)

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/douard-ready-for-15m-rodgers-reunion-zb8ph563g

Leicester City have won the race to sign Odsonne Édouard from Celtic. The coveted 23-year-old is understood to prefer a reunion with Brendan Rodgers, who signed him for Celtic from Paris Saint-Germain for a club record £8million in 2018 after a successful loan spell in Scotland, over a move to either Arsenal or Inter Milan.

The deal is expected to be sanctioned as soon as Celtic confirm their new manager. They are waiting on approval from Uefa to appoint Ange Postecoglou, having agreed compensation with Yokohama F Marinos, his present club. The Australian does not possess European coaching qualifications, so must apply for an exemption based on his experience.

Édouard’s value perhaps peaked last summer when he had two years remaining on his contract, but his form suffered as Celtic’s bid for a tenth consecutive title faltered, and potential suitors know that he will not sign a new deal to remain in Glasgow. Celtic previously hoped to sell him for more than the £19.7m received from Lyon for Moussa Dembélé in 2018, but will have to settle for significantly less than that.

Any profit on the price they paid PSG will also be reduced by a 50 per cent sell-on clause inserted in that deal by the French club to reflect Édouard’s potential. That means that if he moves for around £15m, as expected, Celtic’s profit would be around £3.5m, rather than £7m, and leave them with less to reinvest in a planned squad rebuild. Rodgers sees Édouard as a potential successor to Jamie Vardy, who turns 35 next season, and capable of forming a potent partnership with Kelechi Iheanacho, the 24-year-old Nigerian.

If he really does want to work with Rodgers then that's a really good sign. Doubt Rodgers suffers fools lightly and Odsonne will surely know that the vacation is over. Edouard has to be chomping at the bit which is exactly what I'd expect of someone with his talent and aspirations. Game on Odsonne!

At £15 million it’s virtually risk free. Worst case it doesn’t work and we can probably resell him for a similar amount to a mid table side a couple of years down the line.

But given how well Brendan has done here, and what he seems to demand of his players pressing wise. If he is keen to link up with Édouard again having previously coached him, that’s surely a good sign.

Can see a fair bit of rotation between him, Vardy and Kel next year. Imagine having a Vardy chomping at the bit to come on for the last 20 when the games stretched. Could become a lethal super sub

I don’t think with Vardy reaching 34 he will be an impact sub..... he will come in and start, with Vardy and Kelch being the support.

Wheres Harvey?:D..........Like Under he wont get a sniff until he proves himself in training. Rodgers will work him and he will have to be better than Vardy and Iheanacho. Can you really see Vardy in excellent health backing down to anyone? Iheanacho after last season? Early days. Glad that Edouard has worked with Rodgers before and will know the environment he faces.

In this day and age £15m isn’t much, happy to take that gamble.

Not even really a gamble, pretty much like the Demarai Gray signing wasn't a gamble but hopefully they'll have a far better impact..

With both Edouard and Soumare we're signing players who would have cost double that a season a go, both have excellent pedigrees as French U21 players and both have been linked with elite club suitors in the past.

Excellent strategy by the club signing players of this type who both have the potential to become elite level players and maybe even genuine world class.

Edouard has potential to be a very good striker clearly he is not the finished article if he can get 10-15 goals next season That would be a very good return

Where have you heard that? I wonder if that is someone just getting their wires crossed as that is the sell-on clause that PSG have with Celtic

If there is a sell on clause, I can't imagine it will be any higher than 20% of any profit we make as Celtic aren't in much of a position to push hard in negotiations

It's counter productive to put a 50% sell on profit for the selling club.

If we get a £45m offer for Edouard in the future, it's only worth £30m to us which makes us more likely to dig our heels in and the player, Celtic and Leicester all probably eventually lose out. A player's agent should be wary of the clubs agreeing huge sell on fees as it makes it harder for the player to move on.

imagine if Le Havre did that to Mahrez, the Man city offer would be effectively £30m to us and the deal is harder for everyone to get done and possibly Mahrez sees his contract out here and all parties are losers.

He used to get a lot of stick but to be fair Rudkin has done a hell of a job negotiating some of our transfers.

i think the rudders hate ship has fully sank at this point. he used to be number one most hated bloke but has slowly come forward as a genuine off the pitch legend at the club lol

Agree. I went ballistic when Puel was appointed, me claiming that rudkin only wanted a yes man. And the Silva farce.

Delighted that I appear to be wrong, again.

The consistent theme in our scouting, youth programme (which used to be non existent)  acquisition of high fees for players  (musa and hernandez being minor miracles of hard balling a transfer fee)  and contract negotiations with players has been Mr Rudkin

Agree with you on both fronts. Perez has been a disappointing signing, but mainly because he cost 30m. Had he cost 15m there probably wouldn't be as many knives out for him. Edouard looks a good player and with other French U21 players in the squad should settle quickly. But even if he doesn't, 15m in today's marker is not a big risk. He will be cheaper than Perez, Slimani, Iheanacho and Musa with potentially more sell on value than all other than Nacho.

And as you infer, Edoaurd and Soumare for a combined 35m is outstanding business. We've pulled it off because both players have been identified for months and probably deals done ages ago. Most likely after we opted not to sign anyone in January it was because we wanted these targets and knew we could get them cheaper by waiting. This club is extremely well run, as is proven time and time again. Incredible to believe it's the same club that stuffed up the Adrien Silva deal so badly!

If you add Betrand to those two, that's already 3 key areas of the squad reinforced without spending a fortune... which means there might be the cash to bring in one or two attacking wingers, and / or another CB.

So far I like our transfer policy this summer. It's about bulking out the squad to cope with lots of games and injuries, which have hampered us over the last two seasons.

Do you seriously think the club doesn’t know that we need and have not tried to get in  a right winger ?

....done a pretty poor job of it so far!!!

Perez

Ghezzal

Under

Gray

Diabate

There are quite a few genuine wingers out here, it always seems like an afterthought for us.
