He is what he is, a 15 million pound defender. He needs time to train and get to know how we play etc but anyone expecting anything much above a 6/6.5 out of 10 perfomance every week will probably be disappointed.

For crying out loud he's been here a day!

Give him a chance!

I recall this honeybadger being very pessimistic and negative so not surprised they have jumped straight in after an opening day win to criticise our new signing on his debut.

I noticed today that Soumare played with his back to their goal for 99% of the time. Really odd looking lol love him though.

He got caught in possession a couple of times, his defensive work is also non existent.

Many were shaky today, yet Jannik already draws the short straw:facepalm:

I think he will take a little while to get upto prem pace and then his defensive work will get much better, but definitely got caught today, and look fairly slow running with the ball at times too.

Thought he was class on the ball but a bit shaky defensively (not as shaken as Danny Amartey mind)

can clearly hide his defensive weaknessses like Denmark did in the euros

He’s a great passer of the ball, showed that a few times today. I don’t envy having to come into that 2nd half. We were all over the place.

Yup. Think we got the subs wrong today too, going to a back three that ill prepared was a mistake.

Spot on (out of reps - over excited on the first match)

Good post. I think Rodgers idea tactically with the changes was the right one; match their shape and get more energy in midfield. But as both subs were debutants it was going to be hard and make the desired impact immediately. Vestergaard has only trained with us twice so expecting him to calm everything down is a bit much. I still thought he did well other than an opportunity Jimenez had where he beat him in the air. That was a bit concerning.

It’s just a bit weird even judging him yet. Could you imagine having to make your debut in a game like that?

Says it all about anyone judging him.

You mean a Premier League match?

Christ yes he wasn’t great but give the guy a chance , hasn’t had a preseason hasn’t trained with us . Then thrown on when Wolves were pushing never played with the other  defenders before and first game back .

Am I the only one who thinks he did alright?

His passing looked good few crucial blocks and a couple good tackles.

Yes a couple of missed headers but look, the guy hasn't had a preseason I think he literally had 1 Training session since the euros and litterally subbed onto a game where we was on the back foot 24hrs later.

Didn't concede a goal while he was playing so in my eyes that's just as good as a striker getting a goal on his debut.

That's really not relevant. Vardy was ages ago and Evans had a relegation release clause. The season before Man City had a 19 million offer for him turned down. In any case I'm not criticsing him. He is what he is. He's decent but he's not going to pull up any trees and we shouldn't expect anything more.

Agreed. He did alright. Don't know what the negativity is about.

He played some fantastic balls out of defence in to the midfield rather than side to side 👍

He's been back in training for 1 week since the euros. been driving up and down the country in the last 48 hours sorting out a move that was rushed through, had an afternoon training with his new team mates and was thrown in when not expected. Give him another week of training and working with Cags & Kolo and he'll be fine.

As I said he's decent. He'll do ok for us but he's a steay eddie and that is fine. I'm just saying people shouldn't expect a lot more. If they do then they are likely to be disappointed.
