Me and about 7 other posters I think?

Ohh. Right. 7 others as well you say. I will consider myself reprimanded heavily then and go to bed - despite being correct.

Mate, what's going on?

Dunno. I appear to have ruffled feathers by suggesting it was poor to try and see out a 1-0 win at home to Wolves. Also by suggesting Brendan is still hobbled by the fear of losing. Mentioned I think he is a good manager and could be great. Not to worry, I’m mildly amused by the pack response. Time will tell, as it usually does. Night night.

Oh, you’re happy with trying to see out a 1-0 at home vs Wolves yeah?  And I’m the clown?  Ok, I can handle that.

😂😂 Read your post again, and you'll realise how totally moronic you sound.

I saw two today, both picked out Tielemans beautifully and would have been perfect splitting Slavia open for example who came to defend both wings when we played them.

Having a central defender who can start attacks will be huge.

This. Vestergaard is superb on the ball.

What a hard one to gauge this guy is!

**** In the air (in the most ironic sense) and not very good with any ball played at any speed into him under any circumstance!

excellent at picking a pass into midfield without any press though...

He really doesn't sound "moronic". We were VERY lucky to hold on to the win, and the first two subs really didn't help us at all. It appeared to me as though we were trying to hang on to a 1 goal lead from around 60mins, and we only just managed that. Very happy with the win. I hope Vardy doesn't have to play 90mins in every match, and I hope Maddison gets well soon.

I thought Vardy was excellent today but needed to be subbed  at the 60-70 minute mark. The subs that were made put us on the back foot & we were fortunate to get three points.

He was great - but he shouldn't be run into the ground. I would like to think that Rodgers would have ideally wanted to sub him at 70mins, but I think he panicked a bit and used his subs up before he could do that. (I'll probably regret this in the morning, but I think Perez should have stayed on)

Tanner’s takes on Vestergaard pulled from his match discussion...

He hasn't had time to work with the rest of the back four. Bertrand said in pre-season how much they had been working on the shape of the back four, so he will need time to get used to that …

He is more like Evans than Fofana. Strong in the air, in duels and playing our from the back. Vulnerable to pace and movement. Rodgers likes his CBs to engage quickly with forwards and support Ndidi, which takes speed and mobility, which aren't his strongest area.

(Q) Do you think Vestergaard joining makes it more likely to see three at the back?

(A) I think it will make it less likely as I don't think it suits him. I know he had a decent Euros in a back three, but he was exposed a lot in the semi-final against England. I think he is better suited in a back four and I expect Rodgers will go for that system more than a 3.

Thought he did fine. As others have alluded to, it was the change of formation and decision to defend a 1-0 lead that really put him under more pressure than was deserved.

Like what I saw of his playmaking, and will happily reserve judgement until we see him replace Amartey in our starting formation rather than being thrown into our setup as we ended the game with.

With only 3 subs allowed, I thought that yesterday BR seemingly got ours wrong and we ended up hanging on?

Delighted to see out a 1-0 as a matter of fact….

In fairness, there were plenty of games last two seasons when this attitude backfired and we drew or even lost the game. Bournemouth comes to mind as a prime example. The rest was history and we missed out on top 4 in the last game of the last two seasons.

I think we need to believe in ourselves a bit more. Yes, we may at times lose, but overall if we are supposed to be a top side this will average out better (because we will have more Bournemouth otherwise).

Having said this, this is only first game of the season. We ended up with two strikers on the pitch. It is an improvement from last season to me.  We also won, so I am not overly concerned yet. Let’s wait and see.

It’s funny seeing people talking about seeing the game out.

Last season no team scored more goals than us in the last 10 minutes - 23 goals.

We only conceded 10 in the last 15 minutes all season.

Of those 10 3 were against Spurs on the last day of the season and the only other goal late on that cost is points was Barkley’s injury time winner for Villa.
So, using evidence we did not lose a single point last season by sitting back and holding on to what we had.
I could also think of possibly 8 games where we either got a late equaliser (Man Utd home, Crystal Palace away), Late winner (Sheff Utd away, Arsenal away, Brighton away) or wrapped up the points in a close game (Leeds away, Southampton home,) or Liverpool at home where we did all three!

The last 15 minutes, Brendan Rodgers generally gets it spot on!

Instinctively, I don't like the idea of sitting back on a narrow lead.  It invites the opposition on to us, to dominate and kills our own momentum and we fail to play to our strengths.  It is equally true however that the opposition have to gamble and attack anyway.  I also think that this is how we allowed Italy to dominate us 2nd half in the EC final and ultimately lose.

That said, it does seem to work for us more often than not and we don't know what would have happened if we had fought fire with fire and gone toe to toe when the opposition is pouring forward looking for an equaliser.  Perhaps Rodgers knows what he is doing after all?  I don't think I'll ever be comfortable with it though.

I think if we are going to continue with this approach, we need to have pace so that we can get counters going and that means keeping Barnes on but I don't know how he would fit into a 5-3-2.

As for Vestergaard, we have learned nothing new from a half hour cameo in difficult circumstances and thrown into a team of strangers.  He starts next week with a clean slate.

,And just as a side note, I do hope we don't take that dreadful monicker 'Vesty' from the Southampton fans.

I get some of the frustration at times though. Personally you can't argue with the results, we see out games well but on the flip side we've a number of quality midfielders and attackers who can't simply be kept on the bench unless we need to chase the game.

Rodgers since he's been here has never really thrown points away in the closing stages and at the back end of 2018/19 and the first half of 2019/20 he wouldn't make the level of defensive substitutions and we'd often score a lot of goals when the game was won, that happens less now. We shut games down when 1 or 2 up and Rodgers gets more satisfaction out of that, see the comments after Fulham away and West Brom at home. Was happier in the 2nd half of the games where we had no interest in attacking and just wanted the game done and take the 3 points.

With our squad we don't always need to shut it down with more defenders and defensive midfielders, but until we do throw a game away doing that then I doubt we'll see a change. Rodgers has changed his style as a manager, he knew he was a bit too stubborn in his approach, think we're just going to have to accept it.
