Impressive performance today. Made some heroic challenges in the first half and he's very accomplished passer barring one giveaway. I feel Soyuncu played better as a result of being alongside him and ultimately whilst he was on the pitch we still had a clean sheet.

Was he injured? Seemed an odd sub.

Rodgers was talking in the pre game press conference about him and Evans, saying we have to be careful about seeing if they could do 90 mins. Vestergard got exactly 60 mins, Evans gets 30. Smacks of pre planned limit on playing time to me, he didn't seem to have any injury when he came off.

It was exactly that. He hadn't had a pre season when he signed for us then got injured.

He did look absolutely knackered as well when he went off

he was icing his knee on the bench, probably just the usual process though

I was really pleased when we signed him - he’s a good footballing CH, but still a traditional CH - good in the air, in both boxes.

I think he’ll quickly become our first choice CH.

Very pleasing to see him put in a good performance yesterday after that shaky first appearance. Looks like we have signed a decent player.  He will get a lot of games this season although I'd still have him behind Evans for sure. And we must play Soyuncu with one as we can't have two centre backs running through treacle.

Fully agree and I doubt anyone can complain after that performance. But then Evans comes on and also shows his class, while Soyuncu looked considerably better with either of them alongside him. It will be interesting to see what settles down as the first choice pairing - Soyuncu has pace that the other two do not, Vestergaard has the height and presence, Evans has the know-how. It’s been so long since we had enough fit defenders to have a choice!

Personally, I’d lean towards Cags and Jannik as the first choice given that they will be longer term options and Vestergaard really does give us extra presence both defending and attacking. Cags has the pace and aggression to work well alongside him and, despite recent lapses, still has the tools to go on and be a great CB. It’s difficult as Jonny has been a fantastic servant, but we’ll have enough games that he will play a fair amount.

I also thought it was interesting to see which side they lined up on - Soyuncu has always seemed to prefer the LCB slot, despite being right-footed but he was RCB on Saturday. I’d always thought Evans as more left-footed (despite him playing on the right) but Transfermarket lists both him and Vestergaard as “both” when it comes to preferred foot.

He’s nimble for a player that’s obviously very slow. Our build up was decent at times against one of the better pressing sides in the world and he was a big part of that.

Iheanacho gave us the option of going more direct and it’d be interesting to see if Vestergaard can pick him out semi-frequently.

If it was pre-planned, then sadly it reflects on Rodgers seemingly poor ability to read the game and act accordingly when it comes to subs.

I think that's a very harsh assessment right there. We've been without Fofana, Evans and Vestergaard for the first three games and have relied on Amartey to fill in, who let's not forget is susceptible to injury too. Going against the medical team advice at this stage in the season and with so many central defenders out is absolutely a huge and needless risk to take.

Btw, did anyone notice Vestergaard having a lengthy chat with Guardiola at the end? Wonder what they were chatting about. Maybe Eriksen?

Will become our Jonny Evans Mk2 - he will be the calming voice and leader at the back for a few years!

He will be a great example or leader for Fofana, Soyuncu, Nelson to learn from plus whilst Jonny remains fit we will have so many options around formations.

Noticeable how Kasper and Bertrand worked well with him based upon their experience with him!

Another great signing!

Or he has a better understanding of the players injuries than we do, and is seemingly managing them so they don't aggrevate the injuries again.

It did seem this was the case. The only issue with that was it reduced our attacking substitution options later in the game. Shame we couldn't see Daka's pace late in the game.
