goose2010 Posted 23 August 2021 Posted 23 August 2021 We have gone to places harder than this with weaker squads and got results in the past. It will be tough as they are a lot better and stronger than they used to be. BUT is it what it is. Everyone plays to their best and we get a result its that simple. 1

Amartey is no world beater, but he's physically well built and can handle himself. Players Jimenez, Antonio, Wood suit his game better than say playing against a prime Jamie Vardy or Sergio Aguero. The worst sort of opponent for Amartey would be Liverpool who play an insane high line and press from the front with skilful forwards that are lighting quick and when counter pressing. West Ham are a counter attacking team that will let us have the ball and look to find Antonio when attacking without a counter attack. When they aren't breaking, Amartey should be OK. (Famous last words). I agree with you, but after seeing the Wolves game Moyes will tell his team to target Amartey at every opportunity, I know I would! So he will be forced into longer passes. We could tell him to play it long, but we can't really do that either when we have a front 4 of Barnes, Vardy, Perez and Maddison. I think the way to deal with it make sure that Ricardo, Ndidi and Tielemans all make themselves available to receive a short pass from him. Worst case scenario have Amartey play it long if he's under pressure. The thing is though with teams that press is that if you beat the press and play out of it, you cut the other team open completely. Barnes had a chance to make it 2-0 against Wolves which came about because we played out from the press and they committed too many players forwards when pressing. West Ham most often play a deep block, so ironically when they choose to press us high up the pitch, those might be the time when we can create our best attacks. Aye. The team will need to work together to stop them targeting Amartay. I’d like to see Soumare give us a little more protection ahead of him.

Popular Post leicesterseddon Posted 23 August 2021 Popular Post Posted 23 August 2021 Feeling pretty despondent about our prospects this season given our injury record already. So going to put the optimistic hat on and look at the bright side for tonight: 1) West Ham are a good team but they aren’t as good as us 2) Their resurgence towards the end of last season was in large part down to Lingard, who isn’t there 3) Amartey, for all his scares, is not as bad as some think & could be a good match for Antonio 4) Our record at their ground in recent years, last season aside, is pretty decent 5) Despite our defensive woes, the midfield and attack are stronger this year 6) Hopefully we will play 4 at the back! 8

I'd certainly like to see Soumare with Ndidi and Tielemans from the start. He's incredibly good at keeping the ball, strong and keeps things fairly simple. As the season goes on I see his presence alongside Ndidi as an enabler to assist Tielemans to perform even better. I think those three have the potential to be as good as anyone else as a midfield 3 in the Premiership. They need game time to get to know each other and whether they have Maddison just in front of them, Albrighton to their right, or even a straight 3 of any of the 4 Vardy, Iheanacho, Barnes and Daka in front of them, I think it's potentially very exciting. Whilst I hold my hands up as being a Perez detractor, I do recognise that he generally gives of his best, albeit I think he might have done a bit more regarding his core strength issues, his days out for me should be very limited now as we have far superior options. I think you’ll be surprised. They absolutely mullered us over two games last season, in fact we only started plying in the last twenty minutes of the second game. I just hope the first two competitive games are a sign that we’re defensively strong, but the ease of which Wolves breached us worries me somewhat. We will see, but I’m not overly confident about this one. 1

If we win the midfield battle we should have a good chance of winning the game, regardless of who is alongside Soyuncu. I think we will win the midfield battle (assuming Wilf is playing his preferred position...), but their physicality in both boxes worries me a bit. Edited 23 August 2021 by FoxesWalk

But that midfield battle against Rice & Soucek should be one Wilf & Youri can win with their eyes closed. The threat of Barnes might hopefully keep Coufal at bay going forward too as they can't afford to be leaving him and Vardy free to burst through.

Steve Earle Posted 23 August 2021 Posted 23 August 2021 Assuming Vesty's injured, I wonder if we'll go 433, with Soumare added to the midfield and Madders reprising the role he played at Spurs last season?

casablancas Posted 23 August 2021 Posted 23 August 2021 I think we win tonight. Don’t know why, but I think with the odds against us with injuries we will pull summat out of the bag. 2-0 win.
Spudulike Posted 23 August 2021 Posted 23 August 2021 Not sure about all this talk of Soumaré providing the extra strength and ball retention. Only seen him once for us and, unless my eyes deceived me, he was guilty of getting on the wrong side of opponents, being out muscled and giving the ball away on at least two occasions in the short time he was on the pitch. Early days but if I was to choose now then KDH would be in front of him in the pecking order.

He can only get there by playing but playing KDH tonight ahead of him could be an option, but we need three in the midfield.

Well don’t fret my old fruit, no matter what formation BR plays we will definitely have 3 in the middle. Will always be Tielemans Ndidi Maddison , or a variation of 👍
