I would make that the most likely result. It could well be a boring defensive match. That is OK with me.

How are we going to be defensive? We have no defenders!

They managed it with Kanté...

I suppose he could play Benko and Hamza , sit back and bang long balls to Vardy, Barnes and Daka. I know that sounds crude but it has been done by us before.

With our defensive worries we might have to go Kevin Keegan tonight and just trust our attack is better than theirs!

If we take the lead early I hope we don't sit back and try and defend it, that's for sure.

If Vestergaard is out then the plus side is we will have to play 4231. Probably same team as last week, unless Maddison is also injured.

Amartey vs Antonio doesn't seem terrible. I'd be worried with him against fast / skilful forwards like Aguero if he was still in the division. The bigger issue with him is when they press our team, as then we've seen he has the mistake in him to give the ball away in stupid positions.

Somebody needs to sit down with Amartey before tonight and tell him to concentrate on the blocks and the tackles, and never under any circumstances attempt a pass of more than 10 yards.

I’ll have some of what you’re drinking ….

I expect to see 3 atb with Castagne on the left side (assuming he doesn’t have any psychological issues as a CB after his injury)

If Brendan is going to play soy and Dan against Antonio then he’s a lot braver than I thought …. To be fair to him he did v jiminez so you never know …

Antonio though unpredictable, is an old fashioned centre forward. Amartey is no world beater, but he's physically well built and can handle himself. Players Jimenez, Antonio, Wood suit his game better than say playing against a prime Jamie Vardy or Sergio Aguero. The worst sort of opponent for Amartey would be Liverpool who play an insane high line and press from the front with skilful forwards that are lighting quick and when counter pressing. West Ham are a counter attacking team that will let us have the ball and look to find Antonio when attacking without a counter attack. When they aren't breaking, Amartey should be OK. (Famous last words).

I agree with you, but after seeing the Wolves game Moyes will tell his team to target Amartey at every opportunity, I know I would! So he will be forced into longer passes. We could tell him to play it long, but we can't really do that either when we have a front 4 of Barnes, Vardy, Perez and Maddison. I think the way to deal with it make sure that Ricardo, Ndidi and Tielemans all make themselves available to receive a short pass from him. Worst case scenario have Amartey play it long if he's under pressure. The thing is though with teams that press is that if you beat the press and play out of it, you cut the other team open completely. Barnes had a chance to make it 2-0 against Wolves which came about because we played out from the press and they committed too many players forwards when pressing. West Ham most often play a deep block, so ironically when they choose to press us high up the pitch, those might be the time when we can create our best attacks.

True, I think this is where Kasper has to take more responsibility. Instead of playing short passes to the defenders 90% of the time, he needs to play it long when West Ham press. Although he's not a great passer himself tbh.

Wouldn’t normally wanna lose Wilf from midfield but would be tempted to put Wilf into CB for his height vs Antonio now that we have Soumare vs Soucek

... Soumare not yet up to speed with the pace of the Premier, would be ideal if he has Ndidi and Tielemans alongside in the middle.

Amartey quite capable of punching passes between the lines, it is an option he does not take on too often.

He has a very laboured action when passing and can easily be read, but this has always been the way he plays.

To play 3 atb against these again would be suicide given that they effectively take advantage of the channel spaces between centre back and wing back. You also cut off the threat which pens our opposition back which is our full backs and wide midfielders working together (which helps Vardy too)

.. there was a period when Kasper's accuracy was unreal!!!

He could kick from hand and find the fullback perfectly and was a strategy he used with Chilwell.

It is something that he is capable of and if some go adrift then at least it is out of play and not an immediate situation which the other team can counter from.

As soon as we start passing it around at the back, the inevitable result, having been closed down, will be a clearance down the field by Kasper. Let us not play around with the ball in the backline.

Big Dan just needs to keep it simple and not played in a high line and he'll be ok. Him and Cags have the strength to deal with Antonio and Wilf needs to avoid getting dragged too high up so he can pick up any runners from midfield when they counter

Antonio isn’t a tall striker 5ft 10 or 11”
