I can only assume Rodgers is a control freak and he things by keeps so much possession we're controlling the game no matter how little we actually do with all the possession, thing is we couldn't be further away from controlling the game running ourselves into our own downfall, the opposition are more than happy to concede possession to us.

When players find or regain their confidence the controlling of possession works. We've conceded a lot by having that control and then losing the ball in stupid positions because of silly mistakes. But I agree right now the controlling game isn't working and both players and manager need to find their mojo back. It takes initiative from both to get us back to where we need to be.

It’s got to click at some point, right?

You'd kinda think so.

The concern I have is more than one of us just not clicking. I'm starting to think we need tactical and formation changes too. We seem to be persevering with something that's not working in the hope it'll come right. I just don't know how long you give it.

Hmmm, yes, some good think piece posts.

You've got me wondering now. Has BR coached the spontaneity out of the players? Is his plan so rigid it doesn't allow for individual decision making and, dare I say it, creativity?

No. That surely can't be the case.

Somehow we need to keep a clean sheet. That would be a start. We then have a chance of winning the game.  Irrespective of tactics or formations we're always able to nick a goal.

That would do the players confidence a world of good. Whether it's more than that is another debate, but too many do seem off form.

Have Nacho on the bench ready to come on at HT for Madders if it's not working.

Nacho has to start no question about it. Maddison is not good enough right now to be starting games.

A tight nil nil for the first half hour, but we have 70 percent of the ball passing around at the back so all is good.

Then from a Kasper short goal kick, we will get in a muddle trying to pass our way out of defence, Zaha will run though with ease, one nil.

We will carry on in exactly the same manner until the 60th minute when Brendan will take off Perez and replace him with Albrighton.  Game changing tactics right there.

Then we go 2-0 down.  Edourard showing us why we should have bought him instead of Daka to sit on the bench.

Brendan will then take the handbrake off and for the last twenty minutes we will hammer Palace.  We may score no goals, we might get one back, and if we have a miracle we may get back on level terms.

So... 0-2, 1-2 or 2-2 for me depending on how good the last twenty minutes are.

Lose this and next week (very likely against Man U) and, taking into account the end of last season, our record over the past 12 PL games will be W3 D1 L8. The 3 wins include narrow shaky wins against Man U's full B team and arguably the worst PL team for a decade (Norwich), along with a fortunate victory over Wolves, who've hardly been great themselves recently. Our poor form is way more than a blip.

Sounds like Peter Taylor (TWAT) all over again! 🥶😟

Maybe its time for the players to take their own tactical decisions and think outside the Rodgers box. We need to surprise  the opposition not stick to the formula. Ranieri admitted that he largely let the players make the decisions when he first took over and that worked well enough. Rodgers needs to slacken his grip on tactics and up his motivational performance, he could learn a bit from how his fellow countryman O' Neil used to drive us on.

I keep thinking there's no-one who's a proper leader in the middle - where it counts. Tielemans is often diffident and N'Didi does his job but isn't influential.

Evans, when he's fit (and that's becoming increasingly problematical) dominates the central defensive unit but that's too isolated from the main play to influence forward play.

Schmeichel might shout a lot, but he has obvious weak spots - he doesn't impose himself on the area and his distribution can be sloppy. So how can he lead by example?

I feel that Rodgers has to be in control to such an extent that tactical modification or creativity is suppressed during the game.

Maybe if he loosened the reins the team might begin to improvise.

Perhaps Soumare is the man to transition his aggression to into a more dominant role. It's all too pedantic and lifeless atm and that's typical of a team looking to the bench for guidance and solutions. Rodgers isn't a great improviser - his game plans resemble painting-by-numbers.

Maddison could be that man if he averted his gaze from the mirror and began taking responsibility for imposing his personality on the game rather than being overly concerned with showing how clever he is.

I'm hearing rumours there are anomalies with Iheanacho's oyster card and that he's out today's game.

He's probably sitting in the concourse of a tube station as we speak. Waiting for his agent to call.

Unless Brendan swallows his pride and alters his tactics I can’t see anything other than this.

Unfortunately, I think it will get worse before it gets better. I think we will go on a bit of a bad run, he will get time because of his achievements (and contract), he may even get pulled into a meeting and be told to buck his ideas up. Then he will make the minor tactical tweaks needed to get us back on track.

Do you think rudders and Brendan aren’t discussing football stuff almost daily ?

I really am lost when it comes to betting terms and odds etc.

I'll have a pot of tea on come kick off time. And maybe, if I'm feeling brave, a packet of rich rea.

Lightweight. Bourbons for the Lester ultras.

Probably, but they won’t be saying to him “yea Brendan this is all a bit shit” just yet.

Dreading this. Just imaging Vestergaard up against Zaha is enough to give me heart palpitations and the shits this morning.

Brendan please just start Nacho, Vardy and Lookman so we have a chance of getting a result.

I know he's not had his best season so far but ndiddi out vs the lower half teams and we tend to lose or draw so not super confident but it cant get much worse atm so hopefully a good performance atleast.

How much coverage will we get on sky today with Liverpool/Man City on after

Score first and I can see the confidence come back pretty quickly but can only see Palace wingers causing us all sorts of problems running at us.

It could well be an open game, Viera is no tactician so Palace will be fast and aggressive and try to break any rigid play. I am not pessimistic but we will have give it 100%.

For once I don't think we can complain about that, neither is there much to cover on us.

It's also probably a good distraction that they don't cover much of our game if we are to embarrass ourselves.
