Biggest issue for me in not being in Europe is it makes it way harder to develop players. We have an inflated squad from 2 years of European competition and they'll be a lot less gametime and rotation with only 1 game a week again next season.

The likes of Daka and Soumare who I keep hearing need next season to develop, simply won't get the game time. Your 3rd choice striker and 4th or 5th choice midfielder aren't getting on much if you're only playing 1 game a week in the league.

Solid point but equally it does give more training ground time and proper sessions

It's the kind of post-season that I would relish if I was playing on Football Manager so I can imagine Brendan will be up for this.

There's a good nucleus of a squad and some good young players to build around. It's also obvious who isn't fitting in to the system and who the dead wood is that we can get rid of. We're clearly lacking some grit at the back as well as someone who can make something happen on the wing.

Back the recruitment team, they have a pretty good success rate when allowed to make their decisions so all in all could be a positive summer.

I’m with @StanSP& @Webbo, very optimistic for next season.

Of course the window will be critical, but if we can shift 6 or 7 of the 10/11 that need to go and bring in the right 5/6, with fewer games there’s no reason we can’t challenge top seven, and aim to win a cup.

We’ll be fine next season, need to move Youri on now it’s dragging on the last 25 games he’s been jogging around the pitch, personally if he wanted a new deal now I’d say no. 3/4 fresh faces needed 2 of them need to be leaders. We’ve looked lost so many times this season it’s unbelievable.

i don’t think you can throw not taking domestic cup comps seriously at brendan ….

This  - just have to convince players that our absence this season is an injury hit blip - we may have to be more relaxed about some contractual clauses though ….

I can this season.

we didn’t go out of this seasons cups because of the managers approach to the games

If it's true that not being in Europe won't affect our ability to retain players then I can live with having this season out, but being out of it is a case of swings and roundabouts, we'll be fresher and more capable / likely to field our strongest available side for league games but our players and particularly the younger ones won't be picking up that experience and nous that we miss when we do come up against Foreign  sides.

There will likely be something different about us in terms of the much discussed lack of physicality hopefully addressed, some new heroes and a transition towards Vardy winding down. I'd like to say 6th and a League Cup but the "Super League 6" are ominously back in place at the moment, we will do well to fend off West Ham and Wolves as next best and then there's the wild card that is Newcastle. But with our best players staying bar Tielemans and a less hectic schedule I think ending up being around 7th-9th after a push for 5th and 6th is realistic.

You only had to watch Forest against Arsenal let alone any other of their games to see where their threat came from. Rodgers must have been washing his hair and brushing those big white teeth that night because he certainly didn't set up to mitigate the threat.

Our real ambitions? What are they in your eyes - title?!

Challenging for top 6 again is good for us.

The champions league race has been a shit show for 3-4 years nobody has really wanted 4th place for about 3 years and kind of just fell over the line, the top 2 are light years ahead of the rest currently Man utd, Arsenal and Spurs aren't consistent over a season, BR has moved the club on a level fair play to him but i'm not sure he's the man to move it onto the next level which is the clubs i've just mentioned. An if we are not careful we will go back a level to your Brighton, Southampton sort of level. Next season for me we could finish anywhere between 6th-14th

One of the things I would do is buy a target man - and one who is prepared to be a squad player.

There is a time and a place for possession based assertive football. But when it’s not working, there’s a also a time and a place to knock it long to a Steve Howard type. I was crying out for that in Roma, it might also help with defending set pieces and also a focal point for crosses.

I've said this so many times, what we would give to have a Leo Ulloa type player to bring on for the last 20 mins when chasing a game

When he took over he did and Q&A and said he will nor play that way. So don't hold your breath.

Nothing to play for? I dare say the money men would argue that 2.5m per place is worth playing for.

2 or 3 places could be that extra player/quality we need.

As fans yes it's over but the club still has lots to play for.

I’d imagine we’ll look to do something like the following:

Out - Tielemans, Soyuncu, Vestergaard, Castagne, Bertrand, Amartey.

In - Brooks/Januzaj/Pavon, Denayer, Tarkowski, Schlupp, Grob.

What? Castagne out? Schlupp in?

I think a lot of fans need to have some kind of reset and leave any misery or disdain and not take it into next season. Regardless of who is managing us and/or playing for us.

.....any poor start and any further turgid football will not be accepted by most supporters and management, as it would be compounding the displays from the previous season!!!

Brendan got the wall paper paste out and papered over the cracks the other night. He might win Sunday against another relegated outfit.

However we will be back again at some point berating the team when we concede late or from a corner. I don't see him changing anything next season unfortunately and we will be repeating the same things.

It is time for a change at the perfect time. New manager and a preseason.

Article in the Mercury yesterday saying Rodgers has told some players already that without European football they've even less chance of a game here and if they want a career in the game they need to seek a move elsewhere.

Interesting as only Choudhury of the fringe players that has barely played is a player who would be seen as needing to build a career, the likes of Perez, Vestergaard, Bertrand etc are experienced players who aren't good enough for our level.

Given Rodgers wants 5-6 new players, I don't see us carrying a full 25 man squad otherwise there'll be plenty who fall in to the category Brendan has described about not getting game time so for us to get 5-6 in we'll need 9-10 out IMO.

Trim the squad down and have a quality 22.

Kasper and Ward/Iverson

Riccy P and Timmy C

Fofana, Evans, Amartey and a left sided CB

Justin and Thomas

Ndidi and Mendy

Madders and KDH

New CM

New RW and Albrighton

Barnes and Lookman

3 current strikers

By no means perfect but as much of an overhaul as we can realistically expect.

4 New signings required but a chance to get Vestegard, Bertrand, Perez, Hamza off our books and rake in 50-60m from Cags and Youri. The u23s can then step up. Or will have to.

It'll boil down to recruitment and how badly BR will accept help on that front as well as a couple of other on field issues that have hamstrung us this year.

I read that as well and the press reports make it accurate reading into those numbers. He's playing hardball with making sure players get the message because he wants to hit the ground running in the transfer market. I'm looking forward to a refresh despite our injury records.

Just mulling this over Ric, do you think BR has told the players he doesn't want and told them some time ago? It seems quite late to be honest and the negotiations over the new players will be hard enough let alone negotiating the existing players exits.
