The fawning over Penny the Jingoist is largely just weirdly patronising misogyny "oh look she's so strong bless her, she held a sword." Okay.

Why can't you just be happy for us?

So many sheep in this country who just follow what the mainstream media spew out. Having people who just want to protest arrested shows that we don't live in a democracy, we live in an authoritarian society.

I wish ..  bring it on I say ..  and next time a bunch of prats glue themselves to the M25 lock em up for a few months ..  selfish bar stewards ..  authoritarian my arse.   :)

Pretty standard around here unfortunately, but then it's the environment we're in, I see lots of misogyny but ultimately I don't have to be here, so I guess I either accept it or move on

We’ve come a long way, 500 years ago they’d have been locked in the stocks for a week with everyone throwing rotten tomatoes at them. Just one of those things we should have kept.

Not got a problem with the Royal family so to speak but all that pomp and shiny gold a few miles from people  living homeless on the streets is what irks me.

in that respect, I think other European countries do Royal families better. Doesn’t help that I don’t Like Charles as a person I suppose.

Luckily avoided all this all day but just chilling and watching the highlights on the news.

It's just like an indian wedding...a load of pomp and bo11ox for something that could have been done in an hour and with alot less fannying around.

I'm bored just watching the highlights, glad  I didnt watch the live match!!!

I started off not being bothered either way but by the end of today I’m sick of the Royal Family. Today was embarrassing and so elitist that it just looks like a bunch of extremely rich people deciding they are better than everyone else and we should all look at them as they wave at us from the carriage and expensive cars that we bought for them whilst we struggle to pay for gas and electricity.
Then on top of that lots of protesters get arrested for shouting he’s not my king or just having placard’s.
Not a good day to be British.

I am not  sure they have a lot of choice on what goes on or are deliberately trying to wind people up but guess some will see it as being disrespectful or out of touch .

Yes the whole event would have cost a lot of money maybe better served elsewhere but so much in life can be like that .

Suspect the people on the streets watching  or having parties aren’t the ones struggling in life .

I would agree with that.... usually.

However, I understand why they really clamped down on that today.

Any protesters would have been challenged by those in support on the monarchy and this would have probably led to confrontation that would have been unsavoury and stretched security services.

Anti monarchists will have been very vocal on other platforms today and will have every opportunity in the coming days/weeks/months ect.

Like it or not, it was never going to be allowed today.

Honestly so glad you're committed to the bit. I gave in today and converted to Pennydom. Stay strong.

I love the statement "not my King" and "I didn't vote for him". The fact is no-one but no-one votes for a monarch, they are not elected.

It is an historical constitution and a society that we have all been borne into.

I'd be interested to know how many of the objectors to the King were also on the streets objecting to Donald Trump when he visited as President of the USA.  I suppose they could still have validly complained that they didn't get to vote.

That's not really a fair comparison tbh.

One is a egotistical, self-interested narcissist born with a silver spoon in his mouth that makes him think he has the right to control others without accountability, completely lacking in any moral compass beyond ego.

And Prince Charles isn't great either, but not that bad.

I was in London yesterday.   A few observations:

Shops, pubs, cafes, restaurants seemed to be doing a roaring trade. (much better than your average rainy May day).

There appeared to be zillions of happy people filling the streets of all ages, classes, nationalities, cultures, and every other diversity characteristic you can think of.

Plenty of marching brass bands in evidence, which sounds rather good if you ever get to hear them in real life.

Lots colourful pomp and ceremony, which is fantastic if you like that sort of stuff ...  and if you don't like it, that's also fine.

And any excuse for a fly-past is worth the free admission, although the rain restricted it to just helicopters and the red arrows.

All in all, lots of "wow moments", and that's before I saw Penny M. on the highlights!  :)

But it's precisely the time to protest the monarchy. Its the polices job to allow people to peacefully protest not clamp down on it.

What does it make me if I’ve not watched a minute of this, but I also think scouse booing the national anthem is outrageous? I look forward to hearing about their collective productive day at work tomorrow.

No it’s not, the police’s job is to try to prevent trouble in the first place.
