Ghana basically out of AFCON qualifying now after losing 2-0 to Sudan so Ayew and Fatawu (if they’re both here in 12 months time) likely to still be available Dec 2025/Jan 2026.

Not really relevant right now.

Sorry, so Ayew is in the team because he's supposedly a better 'defensive' winger and yet Fatawu's defensive stats are actually largely the same or better than Ayew's anyway?

Ayew is better at falling over more often, that is about it

Ayew is being played, we are being told, as one winger is to come inside as a 10 which apparently Fatawu or Mavididi can't do. Whilst I'd immediately counter we could set up using both as they like to cut in anyway and defend well for very attacking wingers, even if one has to act as a 10 then that's likely to suit Mavididi much better but it ought to be flexible in games as Kristiansen and Justin alter as well to reflect this.

To add to this point, we did this in pre-season and Mavididi looked pretty good. He scored goals and was a threat. Bizarre that we've abandoned that. Although good that he's still looked a threat not playing in that role too of course.

just daft tactics for me, particularly if you have Buonnanotte on the field as well. Just play 4231 ffs, it’s not difficult is it.

It’s just an excuse for why ayew is playing , there’s not any real logic to it. Feels like cooper has pushed hard for an aging player. he now has to select him as he’s sold the club on him. He’s probably hoping he breaks his leg so he can play the better players and not lose face on this

Tbf, in the games he has started this season he hasn't really done anything. Maybe he's better as an impact sub.

Yup, I'm same..love him to bits but PL Football' is a squad game and I'd be inclined to leave him on bench and be our game changer for now.

Think that’s a bit harsh. He was good against Spurs in the second half (got an assist) and did alright at Fulham. His one bad game was against Villa, after which he was dropped and until today given hardly any minutes to show what he could do.

Nonsense, he was arguably the best player on the pitch in the spurs game and he did also did well in every other game he started. He gets underrated because he takes some wild shots which look ridiculous but the rest of his game is very good.

I would rather he starts & gets subbed off than having him sitting on the bench watching Ayew fall over. Starting Fatawu shows real intent.

Yep. Gives the opposition something to worry about.

I get you, but absurd as it sounds, you don't always need to start with your very best xi, as counterintuitive as that sounds..

They were terrified of him.the moment he came on..
