How sad this is. 

 

Not necessarily that it's being held there per se - football is global after all - but the depressing chicanery that FIFA went through to ring fence it and bank the grubby money. 

 

Cynical selection of a multi national tournament omitting the Middle East and Oceania meaning the next tournament had to be there and then opening tender for 25 days. Amazingly the Saudis just happened to have a fully specced bid in that time. 

 

People pointed at Blatter as the black soul of FIFA corruption but the entire shithouse is infested with rats.

 

Still reeling from the egregious human rights abuses that accented Qatar they're ring fencing the tournament for a country who will likely show less tolerance and compassion.

Early rumours of a January/February tournament if you wanted further proof of how much its a nonsense. 

 

Unlike Qatar, it's a huge country and they've done the hard lifting. Barely any objections today with FIFA.

It was interesting that they had a hermetically sealed announcement, with the celebrating countries' happiness being beamed in by video.

 

If they'd had a public meeting and announcement, there was always the danger of a protest and someone chucking fake money over Infantino, just like they did with Blatter.

 

Infantino would have deserved it.  This stinks of bungs and corruption.

FIFA has been corrupt for years and it gained public attention for such under Platini and Blatter.  As for your second sentence,  yes it's called sport washing,  exactly the reason why an odious regime such as the Saudis should not be awarded the world cup.

It is and Saudi are playing a game and are trying to come across as they’re catching up with the times. I mean it’s the World Cup, not every host nation is going to have western sensibilities unless you’d rather we just do a European host every year
