Apart from a striker, and if we could somehow persuade Brownhill to come in on a free, I wouldn't buy anyone else, just dip into the loan market for 2 or 3 other players. I'd like Toby Collyer here for a year on loan to start with.

Ie. West Ham got him because their expert on goal keeping had first hand experience of how good he is.

Be nice to have a little bit of transparency from the club now. Why would we sell our #1 goalkeeper?!


Is it for the PSR calcs? So we can strengthen? Bit of both? Or was Mads pushing for it and we didn’t want to stand in his way?


Obviously I can read between the lines, but why should I have to.

 

Transfer has genuinely annoyed me…and the day before the first game of the season. Joke of a club.

He was alway being sold, and Jukub was always going to be number one.

 

Why would they come out and tell people?

 

If we come out and say we are selling players dues to PSR, people we try and low ball us because they know we need to sell.

 

If we say we are selling to build a transfer kitty, people will think we have money and bump up the price of players we are looking at.

Reality is the lads class, in his mid 20s, we’ve tripled what we’ve paid for him when we can’t offer him Premier League football.

 

Great player who never let us down in his two years here and I wish him the best.

 

Our squad is too big still and I can’t see us signing anyone until we shift a few more outfield players.

 

The hope is selling him when we’ve got Jakub ready to step up (more than capable championship keeper) will prevent the need to sell Bilal or Fatawu who I honestly believe will be the difference for us this season.

 

If we can get rid of Vesty, Soumare and BDR  then it’s been a good window!

lol This has annoyed me... :ph34r:. Such an extreme stance. The club's communication is nonsense but I don't see why they would come out and state why they sold him as it's just a bit of a given. Every club that gets relegated is at massive risk of losing their best players for below market value in order to address a financial shortfall and because those players rightly want to play in a better league.

 

Got a more than adequate replacement ready to go as well.

Was us giving him 90 minutes against Fiorentina the equivalent of someone taking a car for a test drive?

 

From the sounds of it, this deal was basically wrapped up before that game.

Championship strikers are hardly clinical and we need a new striker and midfielder, we can look for a new keeper if we get back in the Prem.

We have a capable replacement and its 18m. Seems pointless to hold him back another year.

 

Only surprise was that it took this long. Maybe his niggly injuries put off a few potential suitors.

Great talent and prospect. Limited experience at EPL level, relegation, injuries and I assume no better bids has limited his price, but not bad for a tier 2 goalie. Good luck Mads 👏

I can't stand Rudkin but do we really need to be bashing him in situations that he hasn't actually done anything wrong? £18m rising to £20m is a fair price for a keeper given we aren't in a financial position to play hard ball. Previously when we got good prices for the likes of Maguire and Mahrez, we were in a good position where we could push the fee as high as possible. We are no longer in that position and add in the fact that only West ham had shown interest and that limited our ability to push the price up. We have a good keeper to replace him and now hopefully can use some of the money to invest in other areas like a striker.
