At what about when that cycle came to an end? Top would have been smart and Rudkin competent? Nope.

 

We got relegated out of the championship, there is no level they won’t run the club badly at.

you could argue that Man City shouldn’t have been in a position to compete at the levels they were when we were trying for top four but that’s a stretch

These charges prove the UEFA charges were correct. That European ban should clearly have stood. We should have had 2 seasons of Champions League football.

How can the premier league continue if they've aloud a club to break the rules for 14 seasons?

 

This level of incompetence doesn't reflect well on them, time for the independant regulator to step in.

Two of their biggest clubs have been cheating for a generation each. 
 

One they spent 5 full years investigating mostly in secret before bringing charges that would take another 3 and a half years to finally find them guilty of. And that’s just the 2009-2018 period - they haven’t even started investigating them for their post 2018 conduct. 
 

And the other they didn’t even find out about until a few years after their owner was forced out by his association with Putin and his war, when the new owners brought them proof of 13 years worth of cheating after having secured a £150m discount explicitly to pay for anticipated fines. They had illegally spent £50m on 10 players over the course of 13 years, who they sold for a £250m profit. With those 10 players Chelsea won 2 Premier Leagues, 2 FA Cups, 2 Champions Leagues, 2 UEFA Leagues and a Club World Cup, but they didn’t believe Chelsea gained a sporting advantage. 

An initial 15 points deduction was commuted to a financial penalty of about a 5th of what they spent illegally.

 

Meanwhile their most infamous winner was pursued for four seasons with a psychotic vengeance with the claim they gained a sporting advantage in a season in which they were relegated (after the Premier League delayed Everton’s points deduction till after that season), colluding with the EFL and breaking their own rules at least 4 times before proving in their own words that Leicester hadn’t broken any at all. They then changed the rules retrospectively, finding that club guilty of breaking rules that didn’t exist at the time and issuing a 6 points deduction penalty that relegated them to League One. 
 

This farce cannot continue.

hmm, if Youri was playing Champions league i think it would have definitely changed things. I think there would have been a new deal and he would have likely gone for a fee at a later date.

 

But finishing 4th may have helped the finances, but does not change how poor we were at recruiting. Would we have still bought Daka and Soumare if we were in the CL - i think we probably would have and assumed they would be able to step up.

Whether it’s soon or in 3-5 years we will get compensation for this, no doubt.

There was 3 major fundamental errors Rudkin and Top made which led to our downfall. 

-Giving Rodgers a contact at the level they did without any clauses in it.

-Giving Rodgers so much power with player aquasitions. 

-Giving the players the contracts they did without any clauses in them. 

 

They were all born out of ambition, but it could be argued they wasn't ambitious enough. We needed signings in those january transfer windows to strengthen to stay in the top 4 and didnt.

 

Clubs like Newcastle and Villa have demonstrated how difficult it is to challenge and stay at that level, this is not to excuse Rudkin and Aiyawatt.

UEFA should have bought the charge earlier and ensured that sanctions were imposed within the period they could be. 
 

Man City were never absolved from breaking the uefa rules 

The sanctions were never imposed on a technicality
