If we finished 4th instead of 5th we would have dished out MORE unsustainable contracts on shit players and breached FFP by a greater distance. We’ve seen what Top’s LCFC do, an extra £50m in revenue would not have helped us an iota.

The charges against Manchester City spanned a nine-year period from 2009 to 2018. The independent commission ruled against the club across four major operational categories: [1, 2]

• Financial Misrepresentation (54 counts): Failing to provide a "true and fair view" of the club’s financial position. The league proved that City artificially inflated income by disguising direct funding from their Abu Dhabi-based owners as legitimate third-party commercial sponsorship revenue. [1, 2]
• Concealed Compensation (14 counts): Failing to fully disclose executive and player remuneration. This notably included secret off-the-books salary structures, such as secondary contracts routed to former manager Roberto Mancini. [1, 2, 3, 4]
• Non-Cooperation (35 counts): Systematically refusing to cooperate with the Premier League’s investigation between 2018 and 2023, including withholding vital internal emails and documents. [1, 2]
• Regulatory Breaches (11 counts): Violating UEFA’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations (5 counts) and the Premier League's own Profitability and Sustainability Rules (7 counts). [1]

City was reportedly acquitted on only one single charge out of the original 115 brought forward.

Perhaps if they hadn’t of cheated we would have finished 4th two seasons running and this slide into ignominy wouldn’t have occurred. I mean, big IF, but these are the calculations teams will be making. 
 

Severe punishment for Man City could open a can of worms the EPL aren’t ready to deal with. 
 

personally I think they could face a 50pt deduction or even an instant relegation. Doubt anything will happen this season though. Appeal, then appealing the appeal decision.

It has a massive impact on the UEFA FFP regulations we were governed by finishing 5th instead of 4th.

It's not an 'if'. 

 

These are the same charges UEFA banned them from Europe for two seasons for. 5th should have qualified for the Champions League in both those two seasons.

Not only would we have been better able to comply with PSR in 22/23, which is the season we were relegated by the Premier League's delayed pts deduction for Everton, we wouldn't even have been in the Championship in 23/24 for which we were retroactively charged under rules that didn't exist at the time and wouldn't have been relegated to League One. 

 

Literally NONE of the relegations we've suffered in the last 4 seasons would have happened.

Would get very spicy if the EFL refuse to admit them until all charges are addressed, considering there are numerous clubs in their structure (us obviously included) with direct grievances.

 

I mean they wouldn't, the EFL would LOVE a cash cow like Man City, and probably push for them to start in League Two or something to maximise their time in their jurisdiction. But there does remain the slim possibility that they're booted out of the professional football leagues entirely.

There’s no doubt they should be relegated, it’s not even a debate. But that should have been the case after the Super League as well.

 

Unfortunately, we’re about to be reminded what modern football really is. It is not a sport held together by a set of rules to maintain meaning and integrity, that’s for sure.
