Leonardo Ulloa (Brighton) - Bid accepted

That is an absolutely fvcking ridiculous price. If this one gets rejected they are even bigger mugs than we are. How have we gone from bidding 3 million to suddenly bidding 6.5 million?

Can't help but get a bit nervous here, with all that's going on. This much-hyped scouting network we have, what are they playing at? If we don't sign at least one player I've never heard of from a non-major European league I will turn up at our first game purely to boo from the first whistle.

I thought we bid 5m? & possibly we are matching their 6.5m asking price?

People worrying over us being desperate and doubting our scouting network are hilarious.

It's June, if this bid was going in in August then you'd be right to think we've fecked it. This is a player the club want and they're looking to finish the deal early.

I don't particularly want him but I understand that the club obviously does.

This one for me is a win, win situation! IF he was to sign we will have an absolutely top player on our hands who will keep improving & gives us something completely different up front. OR if it doesn't happen then we can save the big sum & possibly spend it more wisely on other positions that need recruiting. All in all I think Ulloa seems a hungry player, who would be keen to prove himself on the big stage & I for one believe he has the ability to make an impact on the premier league. Him & Vardy upfront could be a interesting combination......

I still stand by the idea that we were lucky they kb'd our 3 million offer

6.5 is just incredible

It's very simple really, If the Scouting team don't think we can get anyone better to play in Nigels system in the new season for that kind of money,

Then he's the best choice.

Suarez and Sturridge were bought by liverpool for 12 mil each which was a pittance compared what utd city and chelsea were paying for strikers.

Now there worth over 100 mil. Does that mean Liverpools scouting and Managers is better than the others. Not necessarily,

Nobody gets it right all of the time. The trick is being right most of the time which our scouting team have proved capable of doing.

Some people just don't look beyond Harrods when shopping. Others find great bargains in C &A.

I wasn't convinced at first but I have a Brighton supporting mate who really rates him. Apparently brighton played in a somewhat defensive and safe formation last season, which equalled a lot of clean sheets but not many chances/goals; Despite that fact and despite the fact he was injured for long periods, Ulloa still managed to score 16 goals. Apparently he brings a lot to the game and has the unique quality of scoring from nothing even when he or his team are not playing well- that could be a very useful trait in the premier league

I think the major gripe here isn't the player Leonardo Ulloa. It's the circumstances surrounding the asking price.

Let's face it - it's rather unlikely he'll ever be called up for Argentina at age 27/28 and counting. He's had one good season in the Championship and two good ones in La Liga Adelante (or rather one particularly good one in 2011/12), not on the European stage.

Originally, £3m were reported. Why did the price double in the space of four weeks? Is it actual demand from other clubs or are Brighton desperate for some petty cash to refinance their next campaign?

No way Leonardo Ulloa is worth £6.5m. If we were talking about a player four to five years Ulloa's junior, I'd be more inclined to believe the story.

Well no, we won't. We'll have a 27 year-old with a bit of an injury history who had a decent season in a creative side last term, beneath our level.

creative? A few decent attacking players but I wouldn't say they were particularly creative over the season, very defensive minded side

Brighton were not creative what so ever

Don't get all the negativity. As a football fan would you rather have a new player to watch who has been relatively successful in his career or let your owner have an extra £6.5m in the bank? We've hardly been throwing money about blindly. I'd consider previous free business has perhaps enabled us to go a bit more on Ulloa and I'd view £7.3m ish for the 3 we got + Campbell and Ulloa would be great business.

When you put it like that it's a lot easier to swallow. I still side with everyone else though, it sounds a pretty big fee for the bloke.

Beat us twice , so must of had something about them ?.

You judge teams over the course of the season, not two league games.

Good point Prussian. I didn't realise he was that old. Little or no resale value means it's a gamble.

In that case I would prefer to see Woods get a run in the side to see if he can step up.

And you'd have to watch them regularly over the course of the season to do that. If the Brighton fans on here want to chip in, or someone wants to go over to one of their forums and see what the general consensus is then maybe we can say one way or the other. If not everyone is speculating on the few snippets they've seen and assumptions.

There was some proper hangover time involved at least once in there somewhere.

City cease chase for £10m rated striker

It is understood that Leicester City have given up the chase for Brighton & Hove Albion striker Leo Ulloa reports the Leicester Mercury.

Reports have emerged that following three dismissed bids, Nigel Pearson has given up hope on attracting the Brighton & Hove Albion talisman to The KP. The Seagulls were allegedly asking for offers in the region of £7.5-10m which deterred The Foxes.

Pearson still remains hopeful on bringing Fraizer Campbell to Leicester following the triggering of his £800k release clause at current club Cardiff City.

judging from this ridiculous post.. You were one of the Pearson haters.. You were one of the nobs who ran on the pitch during the lap of honour.. One of the nobs who booed when the attendance on trophy day. Turn up on the first day just to boo coz we haven't signed some unknown gem from Europe? One of the worst posts I've read on this forum.

If np wants him so badly, he is prepared to make three rebids, then I suggest we should be finding a way rather than backing out. I hope that a fixation on obtaining value for money does not become our overriding policy and get in the way of progress/survival. A player is either right for us or he isn't.

Prem transfer fees are higher than other European leagues for a reason.

Anyway, in nige we trust (until we don't!)

Just to add that there has to be a ceiling on every player - unless another few bob will seal the deal, there is a time when you have to back out and move on.

Like others have said Brighton was not that creative at all, they sat back alot & tried to keep the ball for long spells during the game. Secondly since you obviously know nothing of Brighton or Ulloa (probably judging them off the game at the KP) what makes you so badly against this idea? & how do you know Ulloa can't make the step up?

Who are we to question NP?! He rarely gets it wrong! 6.5 mil is steep but he will have done his homework!

Well they were bloody creative against us! (The two times I watched them). Looked like Bayern at the AMEX ffs.

I'm not against the idea of signing him, I'm against the idea of breaking the bank and him being our marquee signing. £6.5m! We could get a lot more for that kind of fee. And I'm well aware that its not my money blah blah blah. And I am equally qualified to make my statement as you are to say we'd have 'an absolutely top player' who will keep improving on our hands. He's not 17, he's 27, at his peak age, the odds are very much against the fact that he will keep improving. How often do Clubs pay as much for players of Ulloa's calibre? They don't.

I trust NP but this isn't a good move imo for that money we can bring in a better striker or at least someone with more potential who will command a higher resale value in the years to come.
