Hull City Post Match Thread 2 - 1

Would've won that 1-0 last season - just shows how close to 100% we were operating at last year.

Will be a sobering season for many as expectations come crashing back to earth!

As I said, Drinkwater is a decent midfielder who looked last season but it's mostly down to Kanté & the system.

Could not disagree more. Kante was part of the reason we conceeded so few, Drinkwater was part of the reason we scored so many.

He's no system baby, nor was he being carried, Drinkwater has that rare quality very few CMs have. It's easy to look average for England because England are the epiphanyof average. It's easy to discredit Drinky because literally everthing comes through him, he's the first name on the team sheet for me.

Losing becomes a habit, just like winning does, and the pre-season thrashings have robbed us of that invincible feeling that carried us to the title last year. Without that confidence we are just a team of very ordinary players.

I fear this season will be as disappointing as last season was exhilarating.

It's only one game but....these points are based on more than today's abysmal offering.

1. Not enough pressing which is vital to our style of play and success from last season

2. You can't play Mahrez while he clearly is out of form / not interested

3. Our defenders should not have time on the ball, we should stick to the same system as last year get it to the midfielder or lump it long Simpson and Wes or Huth don't have that ability

4. Musa is very erratic

5. We are short of a midfielder with any ability to assist Drinks - Amartey not positive / confident or good enough on the ball, while King too weak for a two

6. Vardy won't play well and score every game

We are a big club now - they often start slowly!!

seriously off the pace. Previous campaigns notable for our quick start and sharpness.

team selection over confident

away from home against a team who were bound to be up for it, we should have played safe. Start with Okazaki and albrighton.

was and wes together is also a known partnership that works ok.

aftet saying he would start his strongest 11 against Utd last week, was almost as if Claudio thought this game was an extra pre season fixture to try things out.

hope mendy doesn't have too many sleepless nights - he needs to be on it.

vardy well short of match fitness (which we knew anyway but was starkly illustrated today).

wr had a freaky chance conversion rate last season. but we should definitely have gone in level at worst today.

hull had spirit, fitness and organisation but very little else.

We need a bit more quality bringing in and we need to get fit - quickly!!

Nice to the Spurs have started already. Do you think they'll be remembered for finishing third?

It's only the first game, but we sounded disjointed listening in today. I think we may have to change our approach. Huth and Morgan were protected by Kanté, which is vastly reduced with King as a replacement. It will be interesting to see how things go when Mendy comes in but we may have to go 4-5-1 with both Amartey and Mendy in with Drinky in the midfield. Either that or we should start playing more of a posession game. But, like I said, early days and nk need to panic too much. Let's see what happens when Huth is back.

We are champions and today doesn't remove that fact. Something they can only dream of

... Your totally right mate, but it would have been nice to get the first game back-in-the-saddle win and not have to think about their 'usual' negativity (... and you have to believe me when I say negative, the lot I work with are totally sour!) ... onwards and upwards to the next game then ...

I know many people on here love Andy King, and I'm sure he's a nice guy, but he shouldn't be starting for us in the Premier League.

Hes done nothing of note in the past 3-4 seasons.  Great in League 1.  Loyal, etc.

But I'd be loyal on £40k a week.

Hope Mendy/Amartey start next week alongside Drinky.

Wes doesn't know how to defend without Huth.

Our pre-season has been a joke too.  We look unfit and sloppy.

Ranieri needs to grow a pair and have a go at them.  Today was ****ing disgraceful.

We can't play 442 without Kante, full stop. Should have been working on the progression from that instead of daft preseason tournaments.

... What's really pissing me off is knowing that on Monday I have to go back to work surrounded by; no doubt, crowing and gloating spudder tossers telling me how we are going down this season

Same boat. God I hope Spurts lose.

It was woeful stuff but perhaps a little early to throw the towel In? Don't get the Mahrez hate, thought he tried but ran into trouble a fair bit - possibly too tinkered with by the boss. Gray looked poor and Kingy looked knackered and a bit lost. Hernandez looked baffled the whole game and a way to go for him to look Premier League standard.

SHinji and Albrighton should have started and Amartey looked more composed that King - with Huth back and hopefully either Amartey or Mendy starting it should come back into shape - this is a good kick up the arse and in a way losing to Dull means there are no excuses for performance.

in Claudio we trust (apart from the first half today.....)

We lost a game of football. After watching city for 53 seasons it sometimes happens.

Everybody tried, but it wasn't our day, we weren't good enough.

Next week we will probably play out of skins, it's the nature of supporting Leicester. If you can't accept a rubbish display and embarrassing defeat, clear off and support somebody else.

We are are Leicester City the team I love, if you can't cope with regular disappointment, you are not a true fan.

think we can all accept the defeat but excuse us for being angry and upset about it.

I said it earlier in the week - there are no easy games in this league.

Mentally we are all over the place.  Flying round the world for friendlies that hardly prepare us well for a championship promoted outfit and flash BMWs isn't the way to get off to a decent start.

I'm not surprised by this at all.

its not one game though its 4 we have looked shit in, people said its just a friendly, then its just the charity shield, before you know it the players have lost confidence

Embarrassing, no aggression whatsoever.

The back five was a disgrace, Kasper's distribution was poor, Hernandez may have an interception in him but he was shocking at everything else, Wes lacked confidence as the game went on, Fuchs played like a headless chicken, while Simpson was making the silly mistakes he was making two season's ago. In all honesty I can see Hernandez being shipped out on loan before the end of the season, Benalouane MK2.

No aggression in midfield today, far too passive. King has his good games but he is far too ineffective most of the time, Amartey wasn't any better. Drinkwater can only do so much on his own, some fans may say we need to get over Kante but we obviously miss him, it's as clear as anything. Forget being linked with strikers, we need a new midfielder pronto.

People who have watched Musa said he can either be brilliant or crap, we got both today. Vardy doesn't look fit, while Mahrez tried but he looked far too lazy at times.

See how we do with Huth back in over the coming weeks and hopefully we sign a central midfielder asap.

Roll on Arsenal :)

Very disappointing defeat. Missed Huth big time at CB. Morgan & Hernandez not played enough together as a pairing. Okazaki lively and made a decent when he came on.

Fair play Hull they did well today but we were not at our best at all. Onto Arsenal next week at Filbert Way - the atmosphere needs to be exactly what it was last season, fans need to maintain 'that' atmosphere. Important we get a positve result next week and the fans alike install the energy back into the players.

Actually think it should of been the other way round today - Okazaki starting & Musa coming on. Got to learn from this performance, and move on.

People better get use to this because this is what is going to happen every week.

A lot of teams now respect us so will play deep, this is where we need a plan B.

A few things I learned today was

Okazaki has to start, he links up with the midfield which was badly missed today.

Musa and Vardy are not a central pairing, either play Musa on the left, or as a impact sub.

When Huth/Morgan are injured/suspended, Amartey has to start as the lack of height is really going to hurt us at set pieces.

Losing Kante has been a bigger blow than people think, he was our engine and Ranieri has to step up his search to find a similar player very quickly, if not I can see us changing our formation .

does anyone else feel like... Todays result was a good thing? We clearly went into the game thinking we'd walk all over Hull. Even Ranieri's team selection suggested so, Mahrez, Gray, Musa & Vardy all starting. Who was suppose to be defending? lol

Now with that loss, we get a much needed wake up call and won't take any team in this league for granted. I bet we will see a different Leicester next week.
