Annoying words or phrases that have crept into football media vocabulary

I think it's the development of 'high press' as some kind of brand name, proper noun.

They deploy the 'high press'. It's another move towards Americanising sports (and I'm beating that drum in this thread). Like 'The Flea Flicker' or 'The Hail Mary', the 'High Press' is some move towards branding tactical decisions.

There's nothing wrong with the sentence 'Leicester try and close down players in their own half'....absolutely nothing. Why do we need to invent a term to suit the sentence 'Leicester play the high press'.

Because it's quicker and means exactly the same thing?

Not that I've ever heard anyone say 'they play the high press' in my life before though.

Its literally used all the time, its one of the in fashion terms.

Teams not using a certain pressing strategy, theyre using "the high press"

as in "the high press registered trademark"

its proper shit.

A rather old and now-rarely expressed word in the game now, but "bouncebackability".

Fairly certain that it was Iain Dowie who used this term when he was a boss ages ago?

Just because it is quicker doesn't make it any less annoying. Why does communication need to be distilled down into bare bones? Are you not capable of understanding the sentence I provided? Are the extra seconds of that much value to the commentator and the viewer? If so then both parties need to reassess how they spend their time.

'the high press' has only come to prominence over the last eighteen months, how did we get by before hand? How on earth did MotD ever fit itself into its run time?

Luckily I'm at an age now that doesn't involve mates watching Soccer AM, but I put it on the other day with Tom & Serge being on there.

My god it's embarrassing. Helen is surely in her mid 40s now and the show is still trying to crowbar stupid buzzwords into teenage fans' vocabularies. "Tekkers, swaz and top bins". Grow up.

Also anyone that is quick to point out an English player cheating as if we're not all aware. Danny Mills would say something like "Costa would be lambasted for that!" then lambasts the diving Englishman.
