Gray - considering future

Recommended Posts

I think gray is a bit stuck, he isn't a better attacker than mahrez and not a better defender than Marc.

It would've been a lot easier if he had a similar style to one of the starting wingers than he would make a better case for himself when one of them is out of form.

You can't drop Marc because he is great defensively. And you better believe that a proven match winner like riyad isn't being dropped.

He would've gained a lot more support from the fans if he played his cards right.

Lads just gotta suck it up, work hard in training and wait for his opportunity.

He will get his chance.  Players get injured, supended. Shite happens so step up when it counts.

This,.

Then depending on riyad staying/leaving (and sooner rather than later that will happen), we should either be taking the decision to make him a good contract offer and loaning him out to develop further or selling him. I think he should get his new contract and then be allowed to go to a prem side who will play him regularly. This assumes Riyad doesn't leave and there would need to be a potential recall clause in Jan under those circumstances. of course he should be staying here as bench cover if everyone is fully fit but I don't think mentally he can cope with that for much longer.

Could you imagine the meltdowns on here if he came on for Albrighton and we had ended up drawing 2-2.

With us looking for our first win of the season and the players still fresh, it would have been an unnecessary risk to bring on an attacking player.

Shakey has learnt from lastweek.

2 games in Shakey is yet to make a timely and positive sub. Admittedly there was no need yesterday, not saying he's rubbish or anything, just will feel a lot better once I see him make one good sub at the right moment

No one really knows, as his a young lad and not had a run of games to prove himself.

Young players need game time to improve and gain confidence.

The club need to loan him out if they are not going to give a decent runout, it's not like the team wins every game and doesn't warrant changing

Gray certainly has something about him, and given regular game time he will eventually start to flourish, and his decision making will improve.

Our main problem like with Gray and Chilwell that we are not giving them enough game time to progress and get better as players.

You can only learn so much in training, and there becomes a point where players need regular first team football, else they will either lose confidence or go backwards.

He may feel he needs to leave to get the starts he needs, and judging by his body language he feels he is too good to be a bench warmer, so tries too hard when appears as a sub as he wants to make an impact.

I would start Gray on the right and bring on mahrez for albrighton around the 60th minute.

Gray would tire the opposition and albrighton would work his ass off for an hour.

Bang- we bring on mahrez and switch Gray to the left.

Gotta keep Gray happy cos he is the future, mahrez would leave tomorrow if he had the chance.

right away probably nobody but Potch has faith in young players and would give him plenty of chances to impress and take a place, look how much time people like Harry Winks get for them, who plays right wing for them anyway I can't remember?.

I could see him going to Bournemouth, they play decent style of football and he'd be nailed on to start, a year or 2 there move on to a bigger club

Winks got less than half the game time Gray did last year.

as soon as we went 2-0 up Brighton pretty much gave up, Gray should have got 25-30 mins today, no reason not to.

@UpTheLeagueFox it doesn't matter how well he does on Tuesday, in what will probably be a completely different 11

We can't start putting on players at 2-0 up with half an hour to play just to give them minutes.

All substitutions at that point should be for tactical reasons rather than giving players minutes because the game is in the bag, arrogance like that will lose us points.

in a far more congested part of the pitch for their squad yes

as a general rule no you can't but yesterday we were in control and cruising, if anything we were going to score more, yesterday's game there was no reason not to give him 20-30 mins

If he was better than Albrighton or Mahrez he would be in the first 11 week in week out.

The problem for him is that he isn't and he doesn't seem to be going about it the right away to force his way into it.

his problem is he feels like he should have seen Mahrez dropped due to lack of form last season and it never happened and he is right.

as for if he was better he would play, common consensus was that had Huth been fit it would have been Huth and Morgan playing meaning our best CB wouldn't have been in the team...

Apart from the goal at Man United I've not seen enough for him to take an out of form Mahrez out of the team and two managers have also seen that.

I do feel we have made signings to play 3 at the back and all three CB would be playing. With Huth and Morgan's injuries recently only one of them will be playing looking at it.

Sorry but **** Gray, it's the three points that matter.

Although I'm inclined to agree with you there, at what point will we be able to give Gray more game time. Either when we're chasing games or if someone badly loses form/gets an injury?! I thought when Ranieri kept bringing him on in the title winning season when we were often a goal or two up, he was very solid at keeping things simple and helping close out games. We know he can do that but the longer he struggles to  cement himself in the first team the more desperate he gets to try and go solo and impress. It's tricky but he ought to get some real chances this season as we don't have that many options out wide now.

I have tended to avoid this topic but it bugs me so much that I need to add my two bits . You don't get playing time by bitching, you need to excel when the chance comes along. So far it hasn't happened. Prove that you have to play !!!!!!!!!!!!

how can you prove that you have to play if you get 5-10 mins max? you cannot make an impression in the game in that amount of time, that's what people like yourself saying this never achknowledge

Totally agree.  Not saying he should have got 30 mins but 15 mins would have made everyone happy.  At that point, his pace could have been another weapon and helped stretch the game further. The only thing I can see that is holding him back is his excessive greediness.  Again though, without game time, he tries to force a highlights reel into the 5-10 mins that he gets.  I see it as over trying, especially as he doesn't seem to get U23 time, and doesn't look like he will get a loan either.  Let's see how / if he plays on Tuesday and go from there.

I think we should let the guy move on. He's clearly not rated here and is just wasting his formative years on our bench.

Both parties would be better off if he was to move to another team where he can get regular football.

To me it's clear Shakey doesn't like him, he didn't get a shot at the end of the season and he's not getting one now. I thought he should have come on with Slim at 65', Brighton were offering no threat at all. If he doesn't believe a fully fit and raring-to-go Gray could replace a semi tired 65 minute spent Albrighton at 2 nil up to Brighton, he definitely doesn't rate him and should just sell him and get someone else. It's a shame really.
