But why were there no bids? Was it because he stated he wanted to stay? Or was it because everyone thought he was dogshit?

Please read this news article? You seem to have forgotten. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/05/05/leicester-city-boost-as-riyad-mahrez-tells-owner-he-wants-to-sta/

5th may - that was out of date once NG jumped. Mahrez already quoted on sky saying he decided he wanted to leave because he was afraid the bus wouldn't come calling again.

Are you sure about that ? If you said Kanté or Vardy, maybe... but Riyad ? The title was a collective achievement, Mahrez was part of it, excepting his stats, i don't see what he've done more than Drinky or Smeichel. And i'm not kidding at all.

Did you not see some of the goals Mahrez scored last season? (Man City, Chelsea to name a couple off the top of my head).  There is no way Ozil would have scored those types of goals.

he has gone on record talking up their pre season trip to Australia. He didn't  have to comment in such detail. And there is just no speculation at all. So much so his odds on staying are 1/8 !

the gooners in my office tell me he is staying.

Ok pal, respect that, i have reasonably strong links with Arsenal, Although I havent been in touch with anyone from there for a few weeks. I will make a couple of calls Tommorrow.

He can move to a better team than Arsenal but if they are the only club interested and he wants to leave, where else can he go?

I bet they'll be a few more clubs interested once they realise they can buy him for 30 million

I really don't rate Ozil.  We wouldn't have won the league if we'd have had Ozil instead of Mahrez.

We wouldn't have won the league with Zlatan instead of Vardy, doesn't mean that Vardy is a better player.

Its at a point where i dont care.

Can we buy someone already and stop worrying about what may or may not happen with him. arsenal are cheap they will want to pay 25 mill. Its 40 mill or he remains a lcfc player. Pay up or feck off. End of.

Good riddance time for demari to shine.

Yep, good riddance to Leicester's only ever PFA player of the year. What does he do other than prance around and flick his hair anyway after a useless stepover? We'd rather have Steve Guppy back any day, a proper man's winger. Right Lads?

5 minutes ago you didn't believe that to be true so just goes to show you don't always believe what you read

I said it was madness to think other teams did not want Mahrez and would not pay big bucks for him. Show me where I denied there were no bids.

It's madness to think he was unwanted. The reason there were no bids was because he told Top he was going to stay.

He stayed loyal - something most fans and outsiders thought sure would not happen - and helped us in our Champions League campaign. And when fans demand this, then get it and then call that person an "ungrateful turd" the hypocrisy of it all irks me.

Where's the news article stating Mahrez wanted to leave in 2016? After May I cannot find even one credible source saying he wanted to leave. There is, however this from the Telegraph in the article I posted above.

But Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, the club’s vice-chairman and son of billionaire owner Vichai, revealed he has already been given reassurances by the Algeria international.

“I want the players to enjoy this moment and not be concerned about their contracts,” he said.

I think the question is, would we we ever see the 15/16 Mahrez again even if he stayed.  I think not.  We will never see that Mahrez again in a Leicester shirt.

Last year's Mahrez?  Not bothered tbh.

No bids were made and I'm in no doubt if bids were made he'd have gone

Are u saying this based on the fact u didn't read it in a newspaper or on twitter?

Of course the big guns tested the waters on his availability but the club stood firm (especially after losing Kante), gave him a massive contract and told him he's staying for another yr.

Just because u don't read about things doesn't mean they don't happen!

If I was to tell u that Southampton put a bid in to sign Vardy after the great escape which the club rejected would u believe me or call me a bullshitter as it wasn't in a paper or tweeted about?

dont understand some people not appreciating that a bid doesn't have to be made for a club to be interested. A club will enquire as to the availability and price of a player. That's not a bid. we know from mahrez that Arsenal did this last summer. Confident that they weren't the only ones.

anyway, this has now become intriguing. Where are the leaks from the London journos?  The only info dripping out of the emirates in a wide position  is that Lemar is close to happening with the player being interested in coming and Arsenal being interested in buying.   We have had a running commentary in the media on mahrez's position with various clubs apparently interested which I assume must be coming from his camp trying to keep their man in the public eye and put pressure on potential suitors.

The club has kept quiet until yesterday with both Percy and a couple ITK's mentioning Arsenal. That's not come from down here but from the midlands. is it possible that the club is trying to flush out another possible buyer because we need to get a deal agreed to proceed with bids of our own and Riyad's salary is a big chunk to take into account re premier league FFP?

If there really was an imminent bid coming from Arsenal then his price would be odds on at the very least. Other 'certainties' are min 1/4 at the minimum on skybet. These guys don't leave themselves open to a run on a sure thing.

So its possible that yesterday's sudden rush on here was simply a reflection that the club now accepts the player will leave and wants it done quickly.  There may be no serious interest out there at a price we will accept.

They however, aren't players that can win you a game from nothing... You'd never put any other player from our current squad in that bracket.

Nothing imminent. Personally don't think this will happen.

Personally I quite like the idea of Riyad sitting at home waiting for the phone to ring like some modern day Miss Havisham whilst it slowly dawns on him that Europe's top teams are hardly beating a path to his door.

Wake up call for Mr Mahrez.

God I really hope he doesn't go to Arsenal.

They won't pay him much more than what we are and there's no "prestige" about being in the Europa League and getting slagged off by 30-somethings with Kidulthood nicknames that they made up for themselves.

Also, I like Gray but he's nowhere near Mahrez's level, even on an average day. Get over yourselves.

So it's agreed then - if the player had been available at a fee which is considered reasonable, we would have received a bid. M

but he wasnt so we didnt

its not much different now - unless a buying club receives information from us that a fee they are prepared to pay is close to what we will accept, there will still be no bids.

As we head further into the window, that may change

Reading reports that Mahrez has received a four year deal offer from Arsenal I'm left wondering what role LCFC have in this. Reads like its here is £26mn, what you want more? Clubs should dictate the process for their contracted players not the third party agents and propsective employers. Terms should be agreed between LCFC and AFC before the individual terms are. Has the club even given permission for talks to go ahead this side of a £50mn offer?

You can only offer a 4 year deal to a player under contract if a fee's been agreed...

You can offer it to his agent though, which I'm sure they have. In fact I'd wager he's been in contact with them for the long time and the whole thing is being orchestrated to get our price down. I'm still fully expecting Mahrez to throw his toys out further and have a little cry about nasty Leicester not letting him go, hinting at not playing for us and us ending up getting less than Newcastle got for Sissoko.

Is that not regarded as tapping up?
