I'm never 100 percent confident when he steps up for a pen.

Agreed. He got most of the big calls right (Sterling offside aside which was the lino's call), but it was needless to blow the whistle as much as he did. Killed the flow of the game completely which probably suited us more.

Please elaborate as to why a player strolling around for 9 months after recently giving an interview saying he's our best player, gets marked out of the game because the rest of the team aren't stars, and that he wants regular CL football isn't to be scrutinised? How is it embarrassing to want more from a player making those claims?

 

It's embarrassing coming onto a forum to constantly claim that a player isn't playing under his full capacity, and fight that opinion against most people, just because he's from your country of birth. 

 

It's embarrassing to defend those people even more so. Please elaborate Shen, because I'm not really in your headspace right now.

Mahrez penalty technically a free-kick, Silva goal technically offside. Lets one go, and goes out of his way to penalise the other. Has anyone ever given a free kick for that? Griezmann did exactly the same and it's fine.

I thought we'd give it at least a go for the last few remaining matches, instead we were presented with some of the most horrific build-up play (or lack thereof) in weeks.

There was no attacking intent in the first half hour or so, only sitting back, inviting pressure, allowing Manchester City to create chances.

To all the ones saying we should've won this today, on what basis??

 

I'm rather disappointed that the players we saw on the pitch today (with a handful of exceptions) hardly ever looked like they were in it, but more so already in holiday mode.

We've still got a chance to go eight in the table and we're served such dross.

 

Madley made the game all about himself and that's a sign of a very bad referee. Controversial decisions, not following the book (well, breaking the laws he should protect), not seeing blatant fouls or offsides. The match only escalated numerous times because of him.

 

As for Mahrez' double-touch of the penalty strike, unlucky. But those are the rules. However, the penalty should never have been given, just another gift by a clueless official. Unfortunately, I never feel that confident when Mahrez steps up and his initial run was almost comical.  Just shoot it into the net, no need for fancy pants stuff! It's symptomatic of his season, and he's got himself to blame for a large part. He's been doubled up almost all season, but I've rarely seen him getting around it (by allowing others to pierce through instead). He still insists on doing it all on his own, which can be frustrating to watch.

Sometimes  you benefit from blown calls and sometims you dont. Mahrezs pk actually looked like he was fouled outside the box so could have been a fk as well. Tough call.

 

We played well enough for a earned draw it just didnt happen. Suspect officiating but no real surprise on that front.

BUT ... in a game that meant more to MC, ours went out for the second half and outworked and outplayed them.  Albrighton leading by example, putting his body on the line, and the lads followed like heroes.

Because it's irrelevant. If a defender encroaches and the penalty is scored, the goal stands. If it is missed, the penalty is retaken.

The danger Mahrez causes will not be fully appreciated by many in here until he's gone. His quality on the ball is just exceptional. But he's never, ever been convincing as a penalty-taker. The fact the ball inadvertently 'went in' just disguises a stuttering, doubt-laden run up.

On reflection with the players we had missing and as the important decisions didn't go our way we played really well. I actually thought we were the better team in the second half.As frustrating as mahrez can be - his flashes of quality do create chances. If he goes we definitely need a creative midfielder/winger. Equally, as good as Benny can look at times he proved to me again with that tackle/ penalty that he's not a long term answer.
