No wonder sevilla were so keen to get rid him on sold him to us on the cheap

On the cheap?

The year before he signed for us they'd agreed a £7m fee with Sunderland.

Personally thought he seemed like an honest and decent person in general.

Quiet man. Kept himself to himself. Never had any bother.

Do we actually do any homework on players? If this is true it’s another example of shoddy ness (is that a word?) in our recruitment dealings.

We moan enough about the club taking too long to complete transfers, I don't think looking back years and years for this sort of situation is going to help lol

He has denied any involvement in match fixing and hopes that any ban or suspension won't see him miss next weekends 2-2 draw.

For match fixing? If he has had any part of it, even if it is just accepting the money then he should be banned for life. Same with all of them. There can be a zero tolerance on match fixing. Zaragoza and Levante should be kicked out of La Liga. It cannot be dealt with lightly if considered to be match fixing.

We don‘t know what happened. Collusion‘s obviously a big issue, but you‘d need to prove and assess the amount of guilt first. Then you‘re looking at the setting up of a trial. Until all is said and done and a verdict has been reached, Iborra will highly likely be facing the natural end of his playing career. A ban would be of no use in his case.

Are we just unlucky or is this a lack of homework.

Correct - that's when buying a business- it's known as due diligence . I'm unsure if the same applies in the case of an individual

I dont expect it does.... but it would be reasonable practice

If we were away rather than home to stoke that'd be expected tbf - last three away to them have ended 2-2.

They are charging both sides just for knowing. If he took payment he's guilty. The other side would have wanted to win anyway to stay up. But still getting charged.

Innocent until proven guilty of course, but if he is proven to be involved, even if just knowingly receiving money for match fixing of a game he didn't play in, he is guilty and should be punished harshly.  Match fixing is worse than doping in my eyes it is against everything that makes sport great and anyone found guilty should be stripped of all earnings from sport and thrown in jail.
