Danny Murphy saying Kane has the same work ethic in terms of closing down etc as Vardy. Good to know he still has no clue

To be fair, they're pretty similar now- Vardy has developed his game to prolong his career.

4 years ago he was a rabid dog though. Nobody in world football chased the ball down with the same ferocity.

I still feel the presence the two have is completely different. With Kane on the pitch you can give him space as he'll somehow get a shot away or create a chance. With Vardy you know if you take too long or miss place a pass he's gonna be baring down at you.

Understand your point, just feel they're still very different

There is no similarity (see unpopular opinions thread) Kane is a plodder who never gets anywhere near a defender and kills the press that others put on teams (especially the reasonably decent possession based teams). Vardy scares the shit out of defenders on the ball. Vardy is a Porsche 918 spyder or a Bugatti Chiron compared to Kane's Tato Nano.

Kane is actually more of a penny farthing, which fits with Spuds ethos.

Wrighty and Higgingbottom saying Spurs should've been in for Mahrez. But with respect, why would he choose Spurs over Man City?

I imagine they think he would start every game for Spurs and still be pushing for the title, cups and a place in the Champions League. Obviously City are the best team, put Spurs probably would have meant more game time. With De Bruyne injured though and Sane falling out of favour, I expect Mahrez to play a fair bit this season for them and City are paying him more than Spurs would no doubt

Pep is also a big pull factor, given his reputation. But, I still dont see Spurs as a big team and going to them is only a smaller step up from us than going to Man City imo.

Global spending on players during the summer transfer window hit a record $5.44bn (£4.16bn), according to Fifa.

Some 182 of the 211 Fifa member associations had their registration period open during June to September.

Clubs from the Big Five European Leagues accounted for 77.5% of global spending, having a combined total spend of $4.21bn.

Once again, English clubs were the world's biggest spenders during the period, splashing out $1.44bn in total.

"This marks the fifth summer in a row where their spending was above $1bn, something that until now had not occurred in any other association," said Fifa.

Since October 2010, all transfers of professional players between clubs of different football associations must be processed via Fifa's International Transfer Matching System (ITMS).

Its latest data does not feature domestic transfer spending.

Saudi spending splash
Compared with last summer, spending by the Big Five leagues increased by 6.6%, driven by teams from Italy, up by 74.7%, and Spain, up by 42.2%.

"The Big Five play an increasingly dominant role in the international transfer market when it comes to spending," said Fifa.

The figures from Fifa show that 8,401 international transfers were completed around the world during the summer window.

Of this total, 59.1% were transfers of players out of contract, 15.7% were permanent transfers, 13.8% were loans, and 11.4% were transfers of players returning from a loan.

Only 18.2% of the transfers involved the payment of a fee.

The total transfer fees for 2018 so far amount to $7.11bn - already 11.5% more than the transfer fees for the entire year in 2017.

The biggest national spender behind the Big Five European leagues is Saudi Arabia.

Saudi clubs have spent a total of $152.1m on transfer fees this summer, a startling 485% increase on 2017.

Meanwhile, clubs in China have also increased spending on players in 2018, up by 105% on the previous year

Remember when he tried that noncey impression of Knockaert who proceeded to stuff them in our Championship winning year?

Goon

One of my most enjoyable away games. The mascot being a tit, Knocky scoring, Chris Wood with the face, lovely.

The most interesting part of this weekend might not happen on the pitch, but rather in a windowless room somewhere in west London. For the first time in the Premier League, video assistant referees will be trialled in five games on Saturday to fully test whether the system can be made to work in concurrent games, as opposed the single cup matches for which it has been used in England so far.

This is most certainly a dry run, because there will be no contact between the men watching the Premier League's bank of VAR monitors and anyone at any of the grounds. Indeed, one wonders just how much use the trial will be, given that one of VAR's key components is how it meshes with the officials at the games. But this feels like a box-ticking exercise, necessary admin on the path towards VAR being implemented in all 380 Premier League games over a season. VAR is coming, whether we like it or not.
