Ric Flair Posted 19 May 2018 Posted 19 May 2018 Sadly cut price deals like this usually come with back door extras that make it a price not too disimilar to what it would have been without a release clause. I'd still do it if we can with gritted teeth. 1
Gerard Posted 19 May 2018 Posted 19 May 2018 Bottom line is he is a £100k a week player and the transfer and agent fee combined is £7m. I'm sure that £4m doesn't go straight into the agent's pocket. The agent will probably pay Evans some of that either directly or through his father who works for the agent. Pairing Evans and Leicester City together isn't rocket science so I can't see Evans paying £4m for the privilege which indirectly comes out of his pocket. There'll be a bit of toing and froing but the deal will get done if both parties want each other because someone out there will play ball if we don't. Footballing wise he'll be a brilliant signing for us. He'll have a young defence around him and some young defensive midfielders like Ndidi and Choudhury (when he plays) and Evans biggest strength is his brain. He'll be immense for us and be great for developing Maguire and the other players to a lesser extent. 1

breadandcheese Posted 19 May 2018 Posted 19 May 2018 I'd prefer someone quicker at the back, if I'm being honest, as it would allow us to have better cover if we push up high, or the fullbacks push on.

We need a CB with good positional awareness and that can organise the defence. He can do both. Whilst he isn't blessed with pace, you don't have to be lightening quick to be a good CB. There are plenty of examples of CBs who have exactly those attributes. What they made up for pace was their intelligence, positioning and timing of a tackle. Edited 19 May 2018 by sphericalfox
coolhandfox Posted 19 May 2018 Posted 19 May 2018 Let be honest it would have been 20 million transfer fee, plus around about 15 million sign on and wage over 3 years. We are saving around 15 million, seems decent to me.

Buzzell Posted 19 May 2018 Posted 19 May 2018 I’d prefer Mawson if I’m honest but could imagine he would cost an absolute bomb.
st albans fox Posted 19 May 2018 Posted 19 May 2018 seven million for Evans as opposed to 17m for dragovic. Evans will be a higher wage but he only wants a three year deal. Drago would want four. that pretty well balances the wages out. would prefer evans. Drago is decent but I didn’t see pep or Wenger trying to buy him last summer ........ 2
Steve Earle Posted 19 May 2018 Posted 19 May 2018 From another angle, the interest in Evans & Dragovic suggest to me it’s unlikely we’re in for Ben Gibson. Dodging a bullet there... 1

Popular Post Gerard Posted 19 May 2018 Popular Post Posted 19 May 2018 Roy Keane on Evans. "Jonny was a centre-half. He had the qualities of a Manchester United player, and he was bringing them to Sunderland. For such a young man - he was nineteen - he was very mature, and a born leader. Jonny was unbelievable for us. He lived with his mam and dad in Sale near my home, so I picked him up there and brought him up to see the set-up at Sunderland. I knew I was on a winner; I knew him, and I knew what he was about. I remembered an incident when I was still at United; there'd been a fight in the canteen and Jonny had looked after himself well - I think he knocked the other lad out. I knew Jonny was tough." Sir Alex Ferguson on Evans. 'Jonny Evans has always had fantastic ability, even as a kid. He was very talented as a boy when he came over here from Ireland at 12 years of age. We were never quite sure if he was going to be a midfield player or a centre-back – he was exceptionally talented but gangly with physical issues growing up. We had him out on loan with Antwerp and Sunderland and now we are seeing the value of nurturing him. With his height and pace and ability on the ball, he is really outstanding." "I don't know what the fans thought but there were never any doubts in my mind about Evans. He had a period of a few injuries but he has toughened up now, he's done a lot of work in the gymnasium and he's 24 years of age. He's been a top player for us this year. There is no doubt he has been helped playing alongside the experience of Rio and he is now arguably the best defender in the country'' 6
FrankieADZ Posted 19 May 2018 Posted 19 May 2018 tbh i think it would be a decent enough signing tbh, but would rather us get Drago in and then go for the likes of Mawson or Gibson, i know theyll cost more but they are younger than Evans
wardyfox86 Posted 19 May 2018 Posted 19 May 2018 Evans is the ideal signing if we are also signing Ricardo. As much as I'd like Drago too, Evans will organise our otherwise young defense. Will already be excited again if we pull off these 1st 2 signings. Puel has started from the back.
winteriscoming Posted 19 May 2018 Posted 19 May 2018 Would rather we went for ben gibson. I know he would cost more but imo a better long term option. I'd be happy next season if we had Maguire, gibson and dragovic.

It’s a plan B option and it’s always nice to have a plan B though I do thing we’ll play 4 at the back under Puel most of the time with wingers in from that can cut in Salah/Mahrez style. 1
BKLFox Posted 19 May 2018 Posted 19 May 2018 The only thing Gibson has on Evans is youth, you talk of Gibson being a better longer term option, do you mean in sell on profit in 3yrs? because if you do what's the point nurturing him trying to get him up to scratch just to sell for a possible profit when you have 3yrs of Evans who doesn't need nurturing & will steady the ship at the back for sure whilst in the background we slowly bring the likes of Sam Hughes into the 1st team meaning you have a ready made replacement in 3yrs. 4
Wymsey Posted 19 May 2018 Posted 19 May 2018 Shame that agents now are being as greedy as the some of the players themselves with £ demands etc.
