Best thing that could have happened to us in a weird way. We weren't ready that season but then we were ****ing brilliant the season after - the disappointment of that game fired us up massively for the following year.

It actually feels shorter than how long ago that was.

Genuinely thought the club would fall on hard times after that.

Yeah I thought that at the time. With FFP coming in and us having to cut the wage bill, I thought that was our last chance for a long time.

It had the opposite effect though, and gave us a drive to succeed that even the biggest clubs in England and Europe couldn't live with for a while. None of it would have happened if we didn't suffer the pain of that day.

We snuck into the playoffs at the last minute after that 3-2 away win at Forest, and after previous attempts at gaining promotion via the playoffs (most notably, losing to Cardiff in a similarly bitter manner in 2010), I was hopeful we'd do it this time around.

So close to getting to Wembley that day, and those seconds from Knockaert's penalty miss to Deeney's goal were a big blow, I felt rather low after losing in such dramatic fashion.

The only thing that cheered me up a little afterwards was seeing Watford lose the playoff final.

Little did we know what would follow a year later.

Learnt our lesson from that day at Vicarage Road and never looked back.

I remember the game, I was screaming with joy when we got the penalty and my 5-year-old daughter looked at me in a funny way.

5 minutes later she hugged me as I was gutted.

That bitter disappointment made LCFC stronger, Not really looked back after that have we

Agreed.

Taking off our blue specs and looking at it as a neutral, it was a wonderful piece of dramatic sporting theatre.

Had we gone to sh*t subsequently, I might not be quite as charitable about it.

We often forget that our form leading up that gane was piss poor. Couldn't win for love nor money after Christmas and we were sliding down the table from 2nd to 6th and we barely hung on to 6th. Palace would probably have beaten us in the final anyway.

The following sesson we went to Watford and battered them 3-0 so we put the demons to bed there and then.

it's a shame nothing has happened with us since. been a bit boring.

just realised the irony in this comment is that Watford have actually done nothing since this 'special' day for them lollol

Wel it was a great "moment " in terms of instant impact and m "I was there " but we lost the final and you have done pretty well since!

This brings back painful memories. Genuinely cried after this one as I thought we’d never get promoted after bottling that game.

Looking back this was probably good for us. I have no doubt this was the moment the title winning mentality and toughness kicked in.

I remember thinking before the game that if we didn't win I wanted Pearson out. We'd been stuck in a rut since January snuck into the play offs at the very least minute. I wanted someone to come in and start from scratch.

35 seconds after the penalty was taken, amidst the pain, I wanted him to stay. That's the sort of shit that should galvanise you and make you want to avenge it.

Which we did.

I also got the exact same feeling after Arsenal on Valentine's Day 2016. Such a devastating finish to a match but I KNEW after that, we'd win the league.
