Would like to see Hamza, Johnson and one of the centre backs. Not sure if we'll use two new centre backs though.

Soyuncu not fit so I would expect Maguire and Evans today and Morgan and Benkovic on Tuesday. Benkovic will be way ahead of Johnson as the next cab of the rank.

So a chance for those who haven’t featured much to get some time you would think whilst still playing a fairly strong team.

Ward

Simpson Johnson Benkovic Fuchs

Choudhury Iborra King

Ghezzal Okazaki Diabate

Don't think we will see Simpson or King, as they weren't given squad numbers and we are probably looking to loan them out. I think Evans will start at CB instead of Johnson, though he might feature at RB. I think Nacho will start given he wasn't too effective today and could use a goal for his confidence.

Will be a complete "reserve/development" starting line up. Only question mark will be who starts up top. Reinforcements on the bench if things get sticky.

I think so, though Nacho may start, as he did come off early today.

It's changed this year? Suspensions count for the same competition only.

That is for yellow cards, reds cover all competitions.

Well Simpson is 2 and King is 37....

Should be looking for success in this competition, strong team needed and a possible chance to try a new formation and knock the ball around a bit better

4-2-3-1

Ward

Simpson Benkovic Evans Fuchs

Choudhoury Silva

Albrighton Ghezzal Diabate

Okazaki

subs: Jakupovic, Benalouane, Johnson, Ricardo, N’didi, Nduwku, Iheanacho

Don’t think Iborra will feature again as he’s with his newborn and the other new lad is still injure, everything else just makes sense

Shinji to get 30 min and to start against Liverpool. I fancy his Tasmanian devil approach to the Liverpool midfield.

We need to give the fringe players a chance to shine and showcase themselves.

My team would be:

                        Ward

   Simpson  Benkovic   Evans  Fuchs

                  Silva     Choudhury

       Ghezzal   Maddison    Gray

                        Ndukwu

Give the lad a chance up top to compete with Nacho, Okazaki as the back up striker. I've been impressed in the little I have seen of him!

There are a few rule changes in this competition for this season which include:

No extra time in matches except for the final. Draws after 90 minutes go straight to penalties. Hopefully, that will encourage managers to put out stronger teams than previously.

Penalty shootouts return to the ABAB format.

VAR is being used for matches held at Premier League venues.

King to start as captain in his final game and then to Swansea on loan maybe or someone else, would be a nice touch

And risk injury ahead of a loan?  Unfortunately I think we are stuck with all the players on the fringes if they haven’t gone yet

Iheanacho needs to play to find some form, Amartey has to keep playing at right back and the rest can be rotated. Harsh on Johnson for Benkovic to step ahead of him but we wouldn’t have signed him if he wasn’t going to play ahead of him. A shame Soyoncu won’t be ready.

Amartey Caglar/Benkovic Evans Fuchs

Diabate Silva Iborra Ghezzel

Okasaki

Iheanacho

If Caglar is fit I think he'll start to get 60mins or so.
