Players talking to BBC/Stringer - Its Time!

Recommended Posts

From what I remember they did say they'd talk to someone else. But Radio Leicester dug their heels in.

If thats the case and Stringer still hasn't apologised for what he did then they're lucky they even get any access at all.

He's also really lucky Radio Leicester have stood by him so much.

If he hasnt apologized then move on. Sure it might be petty but there comes a point where you let a cvnt be a cvnt. Its like inviting over that relative who always talks crap but never apologizes so because they are family you let them come.  There comes a point where you tell them to piss off

I personally don't think anyone should be obligated to talk to the press tbqh, even the manager. They should do so because they want to and they should want to because they recognise the value. Its up to the broadcaster to ensure the latter.

I take a strongly Marshawn Lynch stance on the idea of anyone being "obligated" to have a mic shoved in their face by some hack looking for drama.

Agree I'm not in favour of all these manager pre and post match interviews being compulsory as they more often or not have nothing worthwhile to say pre-match and their pretty much holding back their true feelings post-match.

"I'm just here so I don't get fined". Love Marshawn Lynch.

Absolutely loved those interviews. I liked him before, I fell in love after lol

It's funny when reporters try to ask him questions to get him riled or catch him out.

He did a 24 hours Bear Gryills thing: it's hilarious - I watched it on Youtube once. If you've not seen it you should check it out.

The man's a preening arse that's far more interested in promoting Ian Stringer than the club.

If RL's relationship with the club is untenable because he lacks the core social skills to forge one then he shouldn't even still be in a job.

I wouldn't mind but his "journalism" is just a bunch of hammy clichés and faux "I'm just a normal fan honest" enthusiasm anyway, it's not like his product is all that worth keeping.

Seems like there's always been a pretty obvious solution for RL but they've got no interest in pursuing it. No sympathy really.

I’m sure I heard an interview somewhere last week that said he is a Leicestershire lad and supported them for .........8 years

We are outsiders Finners and can do better than that by a long way.

It takes a special kind of person to go on the apprentice.Think your first paragraph summed it up.

Got nothing against the man personally, but does he try to hard to be controversial and edgy.

Sadly my LCFC life is built around BBC RL.

Its the best way to get any information down here... So yes, I listen to the prematch (not the game coz thats blocked lol), I listen to the post match. I listen to the forum podcast and often even the bootroom (if only to hear the Birch meander through the world).

I would like to hear a few words from Harry or any player, just get a little idea for what they are thinking or feeling.

The lcfc website does great ‘radio’ commentary of the game plus match analisys. I’m able to get it here in the states ( costs me nothing other than singing into my lcfc account) so if you are in Australia then it would get to you too, I’m sure

This, @ozleicester.

The club's official channels give you all the access you need to the players. Their coverage is relatively new, so they don't always get it right, but they're clearly angling for the the RL Sport matchday listener. That much was clear when they poached Elliott from them.

As it's an official channel, so you won't get them asking difficult or contentious questions. But then again you don't with RL.

I listen to the RL moan-in and the boot room whilst commuting. They're fine. Stringer et al get a load of stick on here, and I can understand why, but I tend to enjoy the listen between the occasional teeth-breaking cringe.

I don't, however think their coverage would be any better for access to the players.

I think its improved since Jason B moved on, he was like Stringers little puppet and idolised him... it was all a bit cringe tbh.

Jason got offended with me when I repeatedly asked him to approach the club with regards to showing their support for the @offsidetrust in the wake of the Crewe (and others) child abuse scandal. Unbelievably he said he’d never heard of them and I pointed out he was supposed to be a sports journalist and should be aware to which he took great offence.

That phone call between him and stringer was the ultimate cringe fest.

Personally I think stringer does ok and is much better than those before him but he does have a habit of describing his every intention which really isn’t needed.

I also don’t need to know what kind of dog is sitting in front of the fire at the Woodies every Thursday!

It's a real shame it's panned out how it has. The players were first to make their feelings known and Pearson followed, not the other way around.

RL could've taken the sting out of the situation at the time but chose not to, I suspect because a) they thought Pearson would soon be sacked and b) the BBC has every right to say 'We won't be dictated to over who asks questions'

Regarding (b) they could've, in the short term, got someone else to ask questions. It would probably have all blown over but the Beeb's stance [from management] allowed things to escalate.

Sometimes you have to take a step back, a deep breath, temporarily go against your principles to play a longer, more strategic game. What it has proved is that RL management have shown incredible faith in Ian, incredible support for their man. They feel they have a massive asset to the station and you have to respect that. Ian has certainly been a massive asset to the station in the past week or so.

It's sad they missed out on player interviews during the great escape, the PL win, the CL run etc. However they can use player interviews from MOTD, Football Focus and 5 Live etc.

Thanks, i have listened to a few of these, but personally i find them a little ummm... gentle,? i enjoy bits of it but i prefer the RL coverage. but it would be better with player involvement :)

It can't go on forever. It has to stop at some point, and now seems as good a time as any. The players have made their point. Time to move on.

It is in EVERYONE'S (Club, RL, Fans) interest.

Just do it.

As recent events have shown, life is to short to hold a grunge over something that happened four years ago.

Times have changed, RL was vital before the dawn of the modern media age, it now less so for most of us.

However there are a number of fans less able to access other media that the rest of us, who depend on it for there City fix.

I think a lot stems back to one addition of the Monday Night Football Moan-In just after the Vardy Casino-Nip incident. I recall Stringer hammering Vards, so much so I wanted to ring in and complain.  I may be wrong on this? I am sure there are people with much better memories of this who will put me straight.

They've started talking to the breakfast show host Ady Dayman. Fuchs has done a few interviews with him and I know for a fact that before the recent tragedy, there were plans for Okazaki to speak to him too (not sure if those plans have been changed due to recent events) but it seems like Ady Dayman is a huge Leicester fan with the club and fans interests at heart. Perhaps he could be the man that bridges the huge gap between the club and the radio station?

Im pretty sure it stems from as mentioned previously, Stringer made a throat slitting gesture to the players (i think about Pearson)

Could be a combination of both then?  Stringer has absolutely redeemed himself over the past 10/11 days and for this he should be congratulated. But - over the years he has had his 'moments' (as have we all!).

One can move on without forgiving. I've 'moved on' from a number of circumstances and people in my life. I don't hold grudges, the issues are in the past, but neither do I include those concerned in my life now. Moving on doesn't necessary mean retaining contact.

I tend to side with the players here. Should Stringer indicate his actions were overboard (he can even use the word 'perhaps' if he likes) then the players might want to accept that gesture. Moving on doesn't mean twats get away with being twatish. Actions have consequences etc.

What's he done other than write a bunch of mushy platitudes that literally any other journalist would write?

Happy to put my hand up and admit I'm being a dick if I'm missing something but he's just been a reporter, no? Writing a couple of eulogies for the BBC website doesn't suddenly make him a hero of the city does it?

Its time.

The club needs to change this ridiculous situation, I would guess its been 4 years since they infamous incident and its just time they all got over it and worked together to provide the public and their supporters with fair and balanced coverage.

@Ian Stringer - Acknowledge your error and let some one else interview them for a month or two.

LCFC - From Jan 1st 2019 lets just put it behind us and start supplying players and feedback to the local radio station and your supporters.

We are bigger than petty rivalries.

It's nothing to do with LCFC it's the players. But they did no wrong Stringer did.

So perhaps you should send a letter to him. Only he can put this right. Perhaps now is the time for it. Maybe he makes an appointment to see the players and apologise for his wrong doing. Then promise to report facts not his feelings like they are fact.

But personally I don't think that will ever happen. For one reason only. He's so far up his own arse I bet he don't even know what he done wrong.
