AjcW Posted 7 May 2019 Posted 7 May 2019 Fair play to him for turning his life around, what he did was wrong but not many show remorse and a willing to get help. He seems to be back on track and spends a lot of time with his kid now which must make it all worth it. I didn’t want him here... I’m pleased he changed my mind... if we still lived in an age when all a right back needed to do was defend, there’s still not many better at it at our level!

Dan Posted 7 May 2019 Posted 7 May 2019 For me he was the biggest surprise of the lot. I thought we'd signed a right back not good enough to even displace De Laet, let alone be probably the most defensively solid right back I can remember here. The very definition of limited player but knew how to maximise those limitations. You get the feeling he genuinely loved it here as well. Wish him the best wherever he goes.

I can't remember a full back at Leicester, who has the ability to consistently defend back post crosses as well as he has for us. All the best, Danny ?
sm1 Posted 7 May 2019 Posted 7 May 2019 Echo the same sentiment as a lot of you. Didn't think much of him when he arrived, but became the best defensive RB in the Prem and a collosus for us for 2 years, which included a PL title and CL quarter final. Good luck to him, where ever he goes.
Ric Flair Posted 7 May 2019 Posted 7 May 2019 Rodgers talks about players never being too old to improve, we as a club epitomised that in 2015/16 when not only did our unpolished diamonds like Mahrez and Vardy excel beyond belief but then journeymen like Simpson at 29/30 hit unbelievable levels. All the best Danny.
RowlattsFox Posted 7 May 2019 Posted 7 May 2019 Ask fans in 10 years time to name premier League winners and Danny Simpson will be the last name they probably think off. Don't mean that to sound like a negative but it shows the phenomenal season he had. Can never fault the effort and desire. Will go down a legend for being part of that side. Weirdly can't see him getting a prem move unless one of the new boys want him. Top end of championship will be good for him.
Parafox Posted 7 May 2019 Posted 7 May 2019 Simpson was huge for us in 2015-16 and we all (me included) lauded him and the other players. However I recall reading so many post-match posts last season and the beginning of this, from people now posting in this thread, that were absolutely scathing about him. I always thought he did his best for us even when he was off form for so long. Now it seems he's leaving, those people are praising him again. Hypocrites, the lot of you.
ren Posted 7 May 2019 Posted 7 May 2019 Bit of me dies every-time a player from the 15/16 season leaves. Imagine when the last one leaves.
Wolfox Posted 7 May 2019 Posted 7 May 2019 He’s a throwback…. A fullback who can actually defend, but, couldn't effectively contribute in the other box There’s limited space in the modern game for a payer of his attributes He has been excellent for us…. As another poster said… he was the biggest surprise of the lot in 15/16

StanSP Posted 7 May 2019 Posted 7 May 2019 Cheers Danny for your efforts and commitments in that 15/16 season Did the job perfectly and helped create the defensive balance in the side whenver we attacked. Reliable and solid in that side as were many others. Hope he finds somewhere that he'll play more than just a bit-part or more than just sitting on the bench.
jock2612 Posted 7 May 2019 Posted 7 May 2019 I think going forward and passing left a lot to be desired but he was certainly one of the best defensive right backs to have worn a Leicester shirt. As others have said he was imminence during our prem winning team. I wish him good luck for the rest of his career !!
Laffarg Posted 7 May 2019 Posted 7 May 2019 Shame, still got a bit of mileage left in him yet. No doubt end up at either Derby or Forest now.

I've never liked him and always seen him as a weak link. Now he's finally going I'll thank him for his time and effort here and wish him all the best for the future. Hope that doesn't make me a hypocrite. I'd still have preferred we kept De Laet over him.

Bayfox Posted 7 May 2019 Posted 7 May 2019 Even if you take into account some of the off field issues. I can't believe there's any city fan (see what I did there) that would wish him anything other than a good future. Even with his limitations once he'd crossed the half way line. He offered everything defensively and allowed Ryiad to make no effort in tracking back. As others have said he was from a bygone age, where defenders defended. It's not exactly like Gary Neville was Cafu. But he won trophies galore for Man Utd. The game has probably changed at the top level and Ricardo is great. But Danny Simpson along with all out title winning side deserve maximum respect. All the best to him, kingy, Fuchs, shinji etc if they move on.

Bert Posted 7 May 2019 Posted 7 May 2019 Was class for us in the title winning season and champions league season. Sad to see him go, thought he was criminally under rated by many on here. Won’t have any danger finding a club in the championship, possibly will get in bottom end of prem. Thanks Danny, all the best.
coolhandfox Posted 7 May 2019 Posted 7 May 2019 Another bargain buy, that became a legend as part of the title winning team. I wasn't happy when he signed but he provide me wrong. Thanks Danny and good luck.
Jonezy Posted 7 May 2019 Posted 7 May 2019 I still get annoyed when I see Atkinson reffing because of that red card at the Emirates.
Jattdogg Posted 7 May 2019 Posted 7 May 2019 Great defender, sad to see him go but must do whats best for his remaining professional career. All the best danny!

Funnily enough ... he's always the 5th player in my list, as I always reel off the immortals in defence-attack left-right (sort of) positions ie Schmielchel, Fuchs, Huth, Morgan, Simpson, Albrighton, Kante, Drinkwater, Mahrez, Okazaki, Vardy. And I will be able to recall that list when I'm 100, senile as a brush, and dribbling into my corn flakes!
