Simpson - Leaving

He's been absurd for us given what we spent but I've never bought him being consistent the season after we won the league, he fell off a cliff with everybody else.

Always a legend, though.

Thanks Simmo. Mr reliable and will always be remembered as a champion

Could easily do a job for the likes of Norwich or Sheff United next season

There was one moment which just epitomised his career here for me. Think it might have been the year we won the title and the opponents were through on goal, looked a certain goal and he ran back 50 metres or so to eventually block the shot with his thigh and saved a certain goal. Got a huge cheer. Forget the opposition though.

Wholehearted trier and very decent defender. Good value purchase.

Hope he finds a good move he could do a decent spell at a newly promoted team.

I remember that, cant for the life if me think who the opposition were? I'm sure they were screaming for handball.

Vaguely remember it being a sunny afternoon in front of the family stand?

Anyone help out with this?

Southampton at home

Not sure if great escape season or title season. But Southampton at home was the closest he ever came to scoring as well. Was gutted when he didn't. Felt he deserved a goal having found himself actually unmarked in the opposition box.

That magical season he was like having a 3rd CB at times, mucking in with Wes and Huth, winning headers, blocking shots, putting his body on the line, particularly great defending set pieces. He had old fashioned physicality and bravery in an age where full backs are often rated by how well they cross a ball. Like the others he kept his nerve at the crunch time (I'm ignoring the Arsenal away farse reffed by Aaron Ramsey & Sanchez). It's a sorry reflection on the game that he could have been playing for a Cardiff or Huddersfield this season but they probably couldn't afford his wage.

Thanks Danny, If Derby come up then that looks a good fit, maybe they'll take Kingy, James, Shinji, Jakupovic and Doris Brewer the tea lady too while they're at it!

Southampton.  Stopped Mane scoring.

h

He fell out of favor without really doing anything wrong. I loved his intercepting headers when he'd be covering Morgan.

I hope he finds a good Championship club, He deserves that and leaves with a Winners medal.

Funnily enough ... he's always the 5th player in my list, as I always reel off the immortals in defence-attack left-right (sort of) positions ie Schmielchel, Fuchs, Huth, Morgan, Simpson, Albrighton, Kante, Drinkwater, Mahrez, Okazaki, Vardy.

And I will be able to recall that list when I'm 100, senile as a brush, and dribbling into my corn flakes!

You’ll also have added hazard to the list by then and will frustrate yourself trying to work out where we played him. lol

I think he still offers something for the right club in this division. Remember him being excellent in our game at Everton this season.

I always name him second. Old school, Keeper, RB, LB, CB, CB...

My son, little Kasper Danny Christian Robert Wes Ngolo Danny Riyad Marc Shinji Jamie, completely agrees with me

A brilliant player for us and I wish him all the best in his future career.

The games moved on since our title win and we have had to evolve with the rest.

But Danny will do a great job for someone else?????

Confirmed by Laurie Whitwell.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7002825/Danny-Simpson-latest-Premier-League-winner-set-leave-Leicester-City.html

Danny Simpson is leaving Leicester, as the club's Premier League title-winning side continues to break up.

The right back's contract expires in the summer and it has been agreed he will depart. There is Premier League interest in the 32-year-old, who is also exploring a move abroad.

Simpson will be a free transfer and top-flight clubs believe he can keep going at that level, with further talks planned.

He loves us still. Always one of the legends. Shame he never managed to get a goal for us.

The team in 15/16 was greater than the sum of its parts. Simpson epitomised this, fitting perfectly into both the squad and his role, but also enhancing his own and his colleagues' performances. A great team player, yet he made some vital individual contributions to our success. There will be a place for him in a team at the top-end of the Championship or lower end of the Premier League. Wherever he ends up, he leaves Leicester as a legend.

I remember that as well-  I think both moments actually occurred within minutes of each other as well?

I wonder where he'll go. He's more than capable of playing for a top championship side but I do get fascinated with the English players playing in America. It almost revives them and turns them into world beaters!

Scotland?  He could play for another 10 years in the SPL.

So could I. I'm 39, smoke 20 a day and havent broken in to anything more than a brisk walk for over 4 years.

What a fantastic signing and servant to the club Simmo has been. Was always a solid 7 or 8 out of 10 every game and his defensive play was top draw. Will always be a Leicester City legend and wish him nothing but the best for the rest of his career.

Doubt it. Norwich have Max Aarons and Sheffield United value attacking defenders.

Think he needs to drop down to the Championship to get a guaranteed start.
