As of now Barnes, Albrighton, Gray and Kelechi. I'd love to have one more with a goal-scoring track record, but Harvey could be very good in that role.

simon789us Posted 8 August 2019 Posted 8 August 2019 Said it before but filling the signing of praet we still a couple short cb and attacker

Benkovic was getting rave reviews for Celtic and Soyuncu has done well when played apart from the odd moment that even Evans and Maguire had last season. Again, Maguire really wasn't the great last season, so they really aren't as big shoes to fill as some think. I would have liked another CB on loan to play it safe, but sometimes we just have to back our talented young players. It certainly hasn't done us any harm recently with the likes of Chilwell, Barnes, Maddison and Choudary! Scottish League is hardly a good league to judge his quality on, unless he turns out to be the next Van Dijk Soyuncu tends to have one good game, one bad game, in Pre Season the games I thought he played well in he wasn't really tested, as soon as he came up against a striker with size he struggled. There's massive pressure on Soyuncu and Benkovic to both deliver, as I said if they do top six is a possibility, if they don't we'll probably be languishing about 9th again and fans will be moaning "We should have signed a centre back". Our first game against Wolves will be a decent indication, Jimenez and Jota were deadly last season.
st albans fox Posted 8 August 2019 Posted 8 August 2019 Assuming we get praet in and no one else, given that local journos told us we were after a winger and a CB, do we consider the window to be less than successful??
Scotch Posted 8 August 2019 Posted 8 August 2019 All very anti climactic. Looked so very promising and then died out. Assuming Praet comes in, I think our business is done this window. On a hole I think we have a starting 11, capable of 6th place but taking into account our whole squad.... We will be lucky to get 7th. 2

Not without a replacement CB. That's quite the hole in defence that Maguire has left behind and none of the current CBs other than Jonny Evan's fill it.

We will be lucky to get 7th. Agreed. We would need everyone to stay fit and our young players to be consistent to get close to 6th. I also think clubs like Arsenal and Man U have done better in the window than I was expecting, so I think although we have improved, they also have. I think it's likely that it will be another battle for 7th unless one of the 6th have an awful run. I'm certainly not complaining though and I did just have a chuckle when someone said it's likely we could be languishing in 9th again... How far we have come! 2

Yes, but we still have an exciting, young and attacking team with a really good Manager, so there are lots of things to still be excited about! I think we will again finish inside the top 10 and also give the cups a really good go this season. My only concern is that if we aren't pushing the top 6 or manage to finish 7th, will the likes of Tielemans, Maddison, Chillwell etc all be pushing for more next summer! I guess no point worrying about that until it happens and there is always the dreaded January window to make a marquee signing or two.

Tanya Posted 8 August 2019 Posted 8 August 2019 I think we are well in the hunt for 9 to 7th but hard to see us pushing past that unfortunately. Still, at least we should be good to watch
