Fox992 Posted 3 September 2019 Posted 3 September 2019 Which midfield is better? The current one or the Martin O`neil one of Savage, Izzet, Lennon, Guppy. For me it's the latter as we were consistently a top 10 Finnish.

Langston Posted 3 September 2019 Posted 3 September 2019 You can't use the "consistent top 10 finish" stick to beat the current lot with given they've only been together for a season, you could argue less than that. It's impossible for them to have achieved that given how time works. The potential of the current squad is frightening, but I can't see them sticking together for the same amount of time as that 90s unit was - and you could argue that's partly to do with their talent.

Walshy5 Posted 3 September 2019 Posted 3 September 2019 Albrighton, Kante, Drinkwater, Mahrez. Better than both for obvious reasons.

SystonFox Posted 3 September 2019 Posted 3 September 2019 So many fans have blue tinted specs over that late 90s side. Don’t get me wrong we were very good but let’s not kid ourselves if we think Lennon is even fit to lace Wilfs boots or if Izzet is even half the talent Maddison is. Again, I’m huge fans of the two mentioned 90s players but the talent we currently possess is huge. We are being spoken about as breaking into the top 6, possibly even 4 in English footballs most prominent time.
StriderHiryu Posted 3 September 2019 Posted 3 September 2019 I think it’s quite an interesting question! It most likely is the current one but the midfield 3 under O’Neil won two trophies and reached another final on top of those consistent finishes. Muzzy Izzet was super talented and a cult hero for a reason and IMO it was the loss of Neil Lennon that put us on the road to relegation (mind you Peter Taylor replaced him with Junior Lewis FFS!). Robbie Savage was the only average one and even then he did a good job in his role. Another thing to keep in mind was who that midfield 3 played with. I loved that MON team but imagine if they had a 20 goal a season man like Vardy? They’d look a lot better that’s for sure! Ultimately where our current midfield aces the old one is in technique and creativity. Tielemans and Maddison in particular make lot of chances and are great at making space. But even then I think Izzet and Lennon at their peak would be pushing hard for a place. Both were terrific players!

In honour of the title winning season, I'm currently contemplating changing my member name to 'Fox442' - anyone know if it's taken?

Sir Shep Posted 4 September 2019 Posted 4 September 2019 Izzet half the talent of Madders, steady on! Both players are fantastic but Izzet was consistently brilliant throughout his time here.
